Dave in Green
Not sure why it's necessary to start a new thread when a perfectly good long-running one already exists here. But the proposed arena was a multi-use facility for the City of Akron that would also be used by the Zips for basketball. A really nice on-campus dedicated Zips basketball arena could be built for much less than $76 million. Apples and oranges.
a-zip
This is a well written, but old article from Hustle Belt concerning the arena proposal which never made the ballot in November. http://www.hustlebelt.com/akron-zips/2014/4/24/5645480/the-proposed-new-arena-in-akron-a-realistic-lookExactly. It doesn't appear as though anyone is interested. Naming rights are essentially advertising. If nobody goes to an event, why spend the money if 2,500 people are going to see it.. (If a tree falls in the woods and nobody is there….does it make a sound)Joe Akron has spoken!! Watch the dominoes fall…………
Dr Z
Topics merged. Thanks for looking up the old thread DiG. The old one was buried, but as a reminder, the search function at the top right of the page is a great tool. It is worth members doing a quick search before starting a new thread, chances are pretty good that the topic your about to start has already been produced in the last year. Here is a HOW TO incase you are unfamiliar with using the search function.

skip-zip
Just a side note but right now I feel better about the JAR than normal as I am watching the first game of the CiT on collegeinsider.comOne look at the NJIT arena and I feel better about what we have, at least for tonight.Heck, just look at the MAC Center in Ken+, 20 minutes down the road. ZachTheZip
Caught this on Twitter: The JAR is getting re-floored. The doors to the main arena are all locked, even for the upper track, so you can only get a peek at it through the little door windows.https://twitter.com/AkronZipsFans/status/594233959422304256

Balsy
They must be putting the Z at center court instead of the A-Roo.So Stupid. I like the Z, but I really hate that we're all but eliminating it from our culture. Stupid.
K92
So Stupid. I like the Z, but I really hate that we're all but eliminating it from our culture. Stupid. As the master plan becomes more obvious, you have to realize that the A-Roo must be erased from our culture. The A is going away. Perhaps you could persuade Dr. Scarborough to consider commissioning an OT-Roo design down the road. For now, the Z will have to suffice. Was able to take several shots from the south end. Only, this view isfresher than the ones I shot. The light/dark floor staining is impressive.Duly noted: the arc in front of the baskets not even outlined as the NCAA decision to retain tthethree foot arc or expand to four foot not yet decided upon. Apparently the lanes will stay as before.

Balsy
This one.I don't mind us using the Fear The Roo, infact I like it and I think it looks fantastic on the proposed new helmets. But we need to stop eliminating this logo from use:Akron has a lot of unique logos that should allow for a lot of unique and diverse ways to use them. Why would we basically stop using one? zippy5
It's just blah. It's associated with a losing period in our athletic department. The Z is simple and unique and represents the Zips new brand going forward.

The Z is simple and unique and represents the Zips new brand going forward.Yeah, like that time football won the MAC Championship, soccer won a NCAA championship, basketball won the MAC multiple times and was in the MAC Championship game every year. Totally a losing period. Not like the era when the Z logo was being introduced, where none of those things are happening in the major sports.

akzipper
Wonder if they will eventually switch the logo at InfoCision to the "Z." Probably costly to make a change like that to artificial turf. Have to think that if the Zips played on natural grass the change would have been made already.
GJGood
The thing I don't like about the new floor is the lack of color in the lanes. I hate hearing announcers talk about points in the paint when there is no paint. I know a lot of people like the 'clean' look but I have always thought of it as being a great opportunity to display your colors with pride.
