Put a big picture of John Heisman on a billboard with a Zips logo that says, "Last time the playing field was level....University of Akron Zips 6, Ohio Statue University Buckeyes 0"

Why the hell don't we do this kind of stuff? Some media outlet will pick it up and run with it. That's all we need. Get people talking, make them aware!

General question to ZNO: what's the worst thing that an advertisement can be?

To answer your question: nothing or anything.

However you did give me a thought: if they can't/ won't do it, just do it ourselves regardless what the school thinks. Marketing, if done correctly, will not cost that much.

Answer: FORGETTABLE!!!

Even bad advertisements can be beneficial if they are so bad they lead the consumer to remember a product. This is especially relevant when the product does not even have a presence.

I am not saying we should have bad advertising. Rather, something edgy or inflammatory can be very beneficial.

I love your idea! Let's make it happen. It would be as good as any investment made directly to UA. Let's cutout the middle man.

We have offered. The problem as I understand it is they offer to play us 1 game at the Q for 2 games at the Schottenstein Center.

Why would we not do this?

You really think 3 games with none on our home court are acceptable? How many Zips fans vs blOSU fans do you think would be at the Q? Forcing our season ticket holders to drive to the Q to play blOSU on a neutral court in the hopes of drawing in more Zips fans doesn't seem beneficial to me.

Yes, yes I do. Do the students/alumni (or any Akron) get excited when we play Bluffton, Coppin State, Western Illinios, or Arkansas Pine Bluff? Replace one with Ohio State and increase interest in your program. I could care less if they played on the moon. The current group has a hard time marketing the above mentioned games, it's shooting fish in a barrel marketing an Ohio State game. We have guaranteed to pay Dambrot (at least) 4 million dollars for a job, enough with the above schedule, and "nobody will play us" excuses, find ways to play better teams. Time for a return on our two decade investment.

The friggin HONKS would certainly be there, but so would the Zips. If we could get anywhere near 10k in the Q, it would be "mission accomplished".

Besides an opportunity for a quality win, this could also be a perfect opportunity to show NE Ohio that ZIPS FANS ARE OUT HERE !!! We should be begging for those kinds of opportunities.

Sadly, this would probably draw more for a regular season game than a MAC Championship game.

And Sadly again, I think more "casual" Akron fans would go to this, rather than a MAC Championship game. I really think many of us on this board seriously overestimate how people feel about winning a MAC title.

They are forced to drive to the Q two...three or four times in March, and they seem to survive just fine.

If season ticket holders grouse over a short drive to Cleveland, to play a top 25 team on a neutral court, instead of playing Arkansas Cream-Puff at the JAR, they should relinquish their season tickets.

Got to give credit to this Buckeye fan. He at least joins the discussion with his real name, year of graduation, picture and twitter handle.

I got two things out of this...

1) This is your classic example of a young kid being molded to believe that there is only ONE college in Ohio. This is why I have such a great appreciation for the UA alums who bring their kids to games dressed in their alma mater's clothing.

2) We're not alone. I enjoy seeing how much OU fans badger their own people for simultaneously rooting for blOSU. After all, they have the biggest reason to be mad. Ohio State claims to BE THEM, and even stole their OHIO chant.

^^+1. I've thought for years that I would be just absolutely beside myself if I were an Ohio fan seeing all of the Ohio State cheers & "O-H-I-O" pictures.

Frankly, I used to be very annoyed when the OU fans did that chant 50 times a game during those MAC championship games in Cleveland. But after I learned more about the history, and how it belongs to them and actually describes them, I actually started to appreciate their unity and their tradition....but only just a little bit :D I mean, when have we ever been able to get our fans in unison for anything like that? As a fan of a fellow MAC school, I'm actually a bit jealous that they can do such a thing. They clearly have a collective pride in their school.

I received an email back from AD as well. Here's the response I received:

"I appreciate your thoughts about our message to OSU, but I have to disagree that it hurts us. To me, it was just a nice gesture for us to reach out to a friendly competitor. Nothing more, nothing less. It was a onetime message as they were playing for the national championship and it won’t cost us recruits as we don’t often recruit against them in football. As for your comments about the other sports, I like our group of coaches and believe that we are on the path to great success in our key sports over the next few years.

Thanks again and Go Zips!"

Basically, it's what we were thinking it was...clueless

Does anyone have a link to the Tweet Ohio State sent the Zips when we played for the soccer National Championship? I'd like to compare ours and theirs. Any of the Championship games will do.

Thanks in advance.

I missed the recent Tweet from OSU acknowledging the amazing track meet recently held by #4 Akron and #6 Can't State. It's not like we compete with OSU or anything.

The rifle team is top-15 as well. Yet only standard press releases from the Athletic Department and not a peep from the Beacon. Let's celebrate excellence already!
