Dr Z
Does anybody know the contract status of our AD? According to the USA Today, his contract expired last September, but I can't find anything on how long he was extended. I don't see anything indicated in his bio on gozips.com. With new buildings and an increased budget, finding and retaining the right leaders to oversee those resources has been a point of emphasis. Under Wistrcill’s watch, Akron has hired new head coaches for seven programs, including tabbing Terry Bowden to lead Football in December 2011. He has made additional head-coaching hires in Baseball, Football, Men’s Golf, Men’s Soccer, Women’s Soccer, Swimming and Diving, and Women’s Tennis.Just wondering. Dr Z
I'll be interested to see who makes it on the long list. I know one thing Dr Scarborough could boast about if need be.Chicago-based DHR International will assist the committee in identifying and screening potential candidates. Dr Z
Why are we assuming he won't be retained? He could be, if his superior believes that he has done a good job, and is capable of progressing to where the Akron Zips should be. If not, it's interesting to see what names appear on a list of a school close by.

However, his superior was on board with that embarassment of our university.

LZIp
Why are we assuming he won't be retained?I was at the Buffalo/Akron game Saturday night. I noticed the Pres and TB (probably a few other big wigs I'm sure) were sitting front and near center. The AD on the other hand..at the top of the reserved seating. Probably doesn't mean anything but I thought it was odd he wasn't with everyone else.

Its not far from where we sit and he's been there as long as I recall.

blueandgold
Hopefully Wistrcill is like Milton from Office Space. They just stop paying him and don't tell him...everything will work itself out on its own then to avoid conflict.
a-zip
I am curious.....what has our AD done that is sooooo bad and holding UA back (no need to mention the iCoach hire, I get that one ;-)

a-zip
Yeah, that's a minor one. He really should get a mulligan there. No mulligan. He f*&ed that one up.....I get it. He is not the first AD to make a bad FB coach hire.We now have the best FB coach we could ever get to come to Akron and defensive coordinator too. We have the best basketball coach we could ever get to stay at Akron. We have won a National Championship (and a runner up National Champion) in soccer. Basketball, track most other sports have improved haven't they? Does that one terrible hire warrant his firing 5 years later.
BirdZip
I think that one hire actually warranted his firing 5 years ago.And exactly how much stuff does he get to take credit for?

If he is the BEST guy to move us forward, fantastic, if not, I would start researching now.

If he is the BEST guy to move us forward, fantastic, if not, I would start researching now. I am not arguing or debating just simply trying to understand where all the haters are coming from. If it is simply the iCoach hire (which is all that keeps being mentioned over and over) so be it. Is there more? Listen, I played for coach Winters at UA and I was pissed when he didn't get hired - we have to move on......I know Coach Winters has. skip-zip
I'll at least say this much....At a D-1 school, the evaluation of candidates for a Football or Basketball head coaching job would probably be the two most impactful decisions that an AD would ever have to make. ZippyRulz
He set the football program back 5 years...with a brand new stadium. After 5 years on the job, it's starting to crawl back to where it was when he got here.
