1981 grad
I think KD is still trying to get the best lineup to finish off a game. We had a 17 point lead and with 5 minutes left it went down to 9 or 10. Thinking about Buffalo I was wondering if we could finish this off. KD went with a lineup of veterans including Reggie, Kretzer, Pat, Robothan and Kwan. With about 3 minutes left he took out Kwan and put in Ibitayo. We finished the game and won by 9. Reggie hit a big three. The crowd was great and it was loudest the JAR has been all season. KD has these guys playing very hard and physical. For the second game in a row we attacked the paint and did most of our scoring inside. Kretzer scored on a back door move. I wish this team would learn to do that more. Ibitayo and Robotham both missed easy layups and Pat also missed some easy shots. If we shoot more from the inside one day we may actually shoot near 50%. UAZip0510
The problem I have with the MAC signing a deal with TWCSC is that you can only watch (other than on ESPN3) if you have Time Warner. I, and most of the people in the communities near where I live, do not have Time Warner. Therefore, most every week I am watching two games on my laptop or tablet. Can you watch on ESPN 3? If so, Google Chromecast is the way to go.
Balsy
UA athletic department must read ZNO, because the famous and wonderful Zippy beating up on other #TeamOhio mascots made it's appearance at the JAR tonight.
scottditzen
Was fun gathering 'round the ole laptop with my dad to watch this game from California. Michael Reghi was amped up for this game. The JAR always looks photogenic....which always kinda astonishes me. My only complaint is that you could tell the place was loud, but for whatever reason the espn mic's just didn't seem capable of truly capturing that live atmosphere. They need to upgrade their audio for surel. Anyhow, nice win Zippers!!!!!p.s. I'm so bumming I'm gonna miss Cleveland this year.
The Hip Zip
Can you watch on ESPN 3? If so, Google Chromecast is the way to go.No, blacked out. So what the TW deal really accomplishes is eliminating the largest portion of of Zip fans in NE Ohio from watching them. I sustained one hell of a hip pointer a couple days ago so I end up giving the tics to my kids with no other alternative to view the gameIt sucks,,,,,,
Captain Kangaroo
I believe you'll have to go to a higher authority than TW in terms of selling our soul to ESPN3. It's a MAC deal, isn't it? I'm glad to see some games airing on TWCSC. ESPN3 is great for the diehards, but I doubt it gets many viewers other than that. For what it's worth, Duke and North Carolina play next on Weds. Feb 18.Did he vote for it, or against it?If Duke picked a Wednesday night to play UNC so they could get their game on ESPN3, you have a valid point. The Zips have one marquee home game per year - K.e.n.t. That should be a weekend game.Duke has 14 marquee home games per year. There's only so many home game Saturdays...a few have to be held during the week. Sucks to be a Duke fan.

It is funny. It's actually been played the last few homes games, and it seemed like it appeared again right after someone posted it in that Team Ohio thread. Captain Kangaroo
Great game by multiple Zips tonight. Pat, Big Dog, Kretzer, Robothan...all were exceptional.K.e.n.t. is really weak on the interior. I've never seen the Zips have such and easy time with dribble penetration, and seen such soft defense once we got the ball in the low post.Ibitayo was a bundle of energy tonight. I love him in the post game. If he stayed in Akron after graduation, the Zips would do well to have him do color commentary. Low crowd energy for an Akron / K.e.n.t. game. Weeknight tip-off probably is the main culprit. But overall, there just seems to be something missing, excitement-wise this season. I can't quite put my finger on it. Maybe it's just me...Congrats to the students for showing up in force tonight. Hope they had fun and come back before the next K.e.n.t. game.K.e.n.t. quit too soon. They never tried to foul within the 2-minute mark? What's up with that. KD said they were tired. I don't buy it. Have't they seen the Zips shoot free throws? No excuse to roll over and quit like they did with so much time left on the clock, in a rivalry game.Great ball movement tonight. Lots of open looks from the 3 point like. Kretzer and McAdams looked like I remember them from last year.If we win at K.e.n.t. this year, I'll predict Robotham never loses to K.e.n.t. I think the one shot the Flashes have to beat him comes in 2015. After that, he runs the table.
skip-zip
The only thing that really stuck out at me tonight was that this seemed like the Ken+ teams of several years ago with their ability to rebound. They got to a lot of balls tonight by either out jumping us, or flat-out beating us to the ball. I'm surprised the rebound margin (8) wasn't a lot larger. They are very athletic in the paint, much like the teams they had during some of their title runs. I guess that explains why they are back in serious contention again this year. If they had only hit a few free throws, this may have been a closer game. In the March game in Ken+, we have to do a much, much better job using our bulk to clear those guys away from the boards. I've experienced this pretty much all season. Which is why I've become even more brazen to the fact that we need a new arena, or something drastically new in the game-day experience. I haven't been excited at all this season.

Sportsjunkie330
It's not just you. I've experienced this pretty much all season. Which is why I've become even more brazen to the fact that we need a new arena, or something drastically new in the game-day experience. I haven't been excited at all this season. All season long we have been reading posts about the crappy crowd. Last night the reason finally became obvious as to why. Jake hits a 3 to put UA up 10, a couple of defensive stops and the under 8 minute TV TO.... the crowd is loud and the music goes off and here comes the dance team to a crappy slow song. Fans sit, quiet down and wait for the TO to end. No loud energizing music or anything. (no, the pep band doesn't get a crowd excited)Zips go up 12 and Can+ calls a TO....crowd is loud, music goes off and here comes the Barnes and Noble contest. Fans sit, quiet down just in time for the smile cam. Now we sit and wait for the game to start back up. I get it, there is a script for every game. But, it can be switched at times. Don't people think about the game and when they place the "smile cam" in the script? and sorry, those contests that they do bring no excitement to the game. Seems like those could all be early in the game or at the half and if not, definitely not in the middle of a run. Oh and near the end of the game the kids carrying the "#K S U cks " banner that was taken away from them from a UA employee, that sucked.
Sportsjunkie330
Good win for the Zips. Lots of positives that have already been mentioned. One thing I noticed was, KD really got a good 8 minutes or so from the 2nd unit in the first half. The starters started off kind of sluggish and the 2nd group really did a good job. I think they got the lead up to 10 at one point. Noah is good. I really like him. We will soon forget how good AA was for the Zips.
Dr Z
The starters started off kind of sluggishLack of experience from playing extended minutes will do that.Noah is good. I really like him. NR14 is exactly what this team needed this year. It is comforting to know he should be here another 3 years.
Blue & Gold
Game story by George Thomas.http://www.ohio.com/sports/zips/men-s-basketball-akron-61-Can't-state-52-inside-scoring-bench-seal-victory-for-zips-against-golden-flashes-1.565971"Although the score didn’t reflect it at times, the Zips dominated play from the opening tip, holding the Golden Flashes to 35 percent shooting while hitting 40 percent of their shots."I agree. IMO, the score was not indicative of how UA really controlled this entire game.

Blue & Gold
From GT's column, a quote by Pat Forsythe:“You can see it out there, the chemistry and how everyone is excited for everyone else. You never see anyone down about anything; it’s just a good vibe out there.”It is refreshing, not having the perpetual pouting from some former players who shall remain nameless. The team chemistry does seem to be much better than it's been for a few years.
morris buttermaker
Some random thoughts.Noah is / can be one of the best players the program has had in a very long time.I like Ibitayo, and not so much Evans and Kwan--I'm thinking they should get 5 minutes/game, and Jackson should pick up more. The JAR is the right size... a remodel would be great, but bigger would be a mistake.I really don't like uniforms that are not the school colors.Pat should never be allowed to shoot a 3Can't is not so good (at least without Hall)

But overall, there just seems to be something missing, excitement-wise this season. I can't quite put my finger on it. Maybe it's just me...Here's what I think I am seeing this year. It seems to be a very "reactionary" crowd rather than a "proactive" crowd. They'll stand up and applaud a dunk, or a big 3-point shot, or a nice scoring run that results in an opponents timeout. But in between, there's no activity. No shouts of encouragement to the team. Just silence. At times last night, I felt like most everyone was taking a nap and figured that they'd wake up when something big happened again. I even felt like some of the student-generated "D-Fense" or "Lets Go Zips" chants that would sometimes echo throughout the games in years past have now become very few and far between.
