I like it .... A bit higher travel cost than Detroit, but a $1.35 million payout. And visibility in a recruiting hotbed against a home state recruiting rival !! Hope it materializes

And a pretty good team too !!! Would be a huge win !! For our record, financially and gaining more recruiting cred in FLA ....,,

Great job if it books !! Who still thinks the program isn't headed in a new direction ?

I think the bowls with P5 contracts with no eligible teams will hold off until the end in the hope that schools like Akron get picked up and they can choose a 5-7 P5 team.

This may be true but there is also no guarantee that they will get to pick if the rules end up stating they need to select 5-7 teams in order of their APR. They could end up bypassing a 7-5 Akron for a 5-7 San Jose State depending on how this all shakes out.

No they can't

I may have worded my comment badly. What I meant was if they decline on a school like Akron in hope of landing a 5-7 P5 they may end up with no choice but to take somebody like a 5-7 San Jose State. This could happen if APR decides which 5-7 teams get berths. If I recall SJSU had one of the top APRs among schools with 5-7 teams. I would think a bowl may want to think about that fact before declining to invite the Zips.

Just noticed Bob Davie brought New Mex. back from the dead (7-5 with victories over Air Force and Boise State). Based on our attendance low due to too many losses, I'd have to say Akron's turnaround is tops in the NCAA after hitting bottom for three years (maybe attendance will trend up now - but I think we need a break out huge year and sustained pattern to make it happen).

I believe we beat New Mex. back in the Faust years. Rematch for best turnaround program?

Focus in bowl Payout !! And future recruiting opportunities !!!! Top two bowl priorities for the program and may be interchanged. Stop being selfish ....... TEAM ! Hahahaha

Doesn't all of this money go to the conference, not to the team playing in the game? Pretty sure the conference splits it equally between all teams.

This is how it worked last year:

"Group of Five (American, C-USA, MAC, Mountain West and Sun Belt): these five conferences will receive $75 million total, including $300,000 for each schools football team meeting the NCAAs APR minimum for participation in a bowl game). The conferences have decided among themselves how to divide this money, which is reportedly $60 million split evenly and the remaining $15 million divided based on how the conferences rank against one another based on team performance. (Note: Some other numbers in the linked article dont match the CFP website.)"
