mes102
Instead of doing one topic of this after every slate of games, I figured to start this thread and update it as the season progresses. AyYo
Buffalo could really help us out.
skip-zip
Yes, Buffalo can put Ken+ two games behind us with only 3 games left, making it very difficult for the Flushes. Ball State is a little less of a concern for me right now because we already own the tiebreaker against them. That would leave OU as the primary target that needs to be eliminated from the race when they come here a few games from now. zippy5
I hate seeding the way it is. If there is no emphasis on divisions, there shouldn't be divisions.
LoyalZIP
Have to win both this week, and they really shouldn't be close.
morris buttermaker
I'm curious, are any of you satisfied winning the MAC, going to the NCAA tourney and losing? I'm not.

I'm not. This would be Dambrot's 4th trip to the Big Dance if the Zips make it out of the MAC this season. Another 1st round loss IMO would be disappointing. We've been there, done that. At some point you'd like to see this program take the next step and get their 1st tournament win in program history.
ace
I wouldn't be too disappointed if we got there and lost in the first round. Just making the tournament is the benchmark we need to hit and anything more than that would be fantastic. But the only way I'll be really disappointed is if we don't win the mac. clarkwgriswold
Not disappointed, just empty. Kind of a "been there, done that" feeling.

Big E Zip
I'll be extremely disappointed if we don't win the MAC. Not just because I want to win, but because I think this team has a real shot to make a couple of waves in the ncaa tourney. I don't want to lose that opportunity. But as we've seen lately, it's going to be a tougher road to get there than I would like.
skip-zip
I guess people need to decide what was a bigger disappointment: 1) Playing and getting eliminated in the 1st Round of the NCAA, while getting a chance to play in front of a big TV audience. 2) Going home on Friday night in Cleveland (like the last two years) without ever getting the chance to experience #1 I'll take a MAC Title any day. And I'll take a bid to the NCAA tournament and a chance to play, any day.
Big E Zip
Skip, number 2 is a painful and hollow experience.

At some point you have to hope for more unless you are perfectly content never winning an NCAA tournament game. I get that every year they make the tournament the deck is stacked against them as they are competing against a team round 1 that has more talent, but at some point you want to beat the odds. If this was 2009 again and the Zips hadn't been to the tournament in 23 years, I'd be happy just going. Dambrot in his 11 years of winning 21+ straight games however has raised the bar of this program. This isn't to say that I'm going to demand some witch hunt if once again the Zips fall short. It's me saying if we look back in 5-10 or how many ever years when Dambrot retires and we have 0 tournament wins despite being a dominate presence in the MAC for ~20 years, that would be a shame. I agree, and I thought last year hurt a little more than most because we then found out that we would turn down any other postseason invite that came our way. While I badly want the NCAA tourney berth and it, of course, is the primary goal if something goes wrong with that plan then I at least want to see some postseason wins somewhere. As far as I know this program has never had multiple postseason tournament wins in the same season since joining D-1. I'd love to see this team in the Big Dance more than anything and I think this team can get there and cause some people problems, but unlike some fans for me its not just NCAA or bust. skip-zip
Kreed, I'm quite "financially invested" in helping Akron to raise their athletic profile. So, I want nothing more than for the "Next Step" to happen. But you won't see me debating that it's not worth it if we lose in the first round. I'll take the MAC title and the chance to play in the Big Dance any day vs. watching someone else from the MAC while sitting in front of the TV at home. ermiller27
Did anyone notice the scheduling of the bracket is different this year? Last year buffalo was a #2 seed and got a bye into the semi-finals and played 2 games to win the championship. This year if Akron gets the #1 seed they will only get a bye into the quarter finals and play 3 games to win the championship....weird. Winning the MAC and getting to the Big Dance is always a successful season. That doesn't mean as a fan that you weren't left hoping for more. Or both?
