Eagles vs Zips @ the Q — March 10th at Noon

I need to hurry up and make a will. The number of years that took off my life is still being determined.

Every year, good teams always have 1 game where they play like dog poop. This was ours and we survived. Here's to opening up a can of whoop-ass the rest of the way.

P.S. I'm at work, and I work at a sporting goods store in the golf department. I walked over to the putting green, and told myself if I make this 6-7 foot putt, Akron will win (this was with several minutes left in the game). I made it. You're welcome, ZipsNation.

It really is remarkable how many improbable wins weve pulled off over the years at the q

But we have to remember...

1) We also had a title stolen away from us with a bad clock operator and a banked in 3.

2) We blew a huge 2nd half lead against WMU two years ago, with an unbelievable comeback.

3) We lost to OU in 2010 in overtime for another title.

4) We lost to OU in 2012 when a technical should have been called on the Bobcats for grabbing the rim on a missed FT with a few seconds left.

I'll take the good breaks with the bad.  :CK_brew:

I didn't get to see the game but I saw updates. Can someone tell me why at the end of the game, a technical foul  was called and we got 1 shot?

EMU tried to call a timeout without having one. Great Chris Webber impersonation.

And you know what...them getting punished with a technical isn't good enough. There should be a run off if under 10 seconds or something like the NFL does. They still could have won the game, when on the other hand the clock should have ran out as soon as they rebounded the ball.

Wow.
Is this game going to be on a replay somewhere?

I was listening to most of the game but with about 10 minutes left and things were looking awfully dismal, but had to take a meeting.   Left the game on at low volume in my office even though I probably shouldn't have, and I could hear French yelling at various points and wanted to turn it up but then the company president joined the meeting in my office and I had to turn it off.  D'oh!

So I turn WARF back on after the meeting, and LO, they hath won.

I would really like to watch the end of this game.

End of the game Williams had a break away and made a freshman move to try and score a layup instead of running out the clock. He was pushed in the back with no call and EMU rebounded. They quickly called TO and were assessed the technical for not having a TO left. Should have been the end of the game but we got 1 shot*.

*edited to reflect 1 shot and not the 2 originally stated

We only got ONE foul shot.  That rule is stupid if it allows a team to call a FAKE timeout and still have a chance to win the game.  A time run-off seems more appropriate.

But what was more puzzling was that they didn't call the foul when Robo got shoved on the layup.

And everyone is right, he should have just ran to the corner.  They would have fouled him.  And even if there was any time left, he could have missed the free throw and it would have been impossible for them to get a winning shot off.  Instead, we gave them an inbounds pass.

Only 1 free throw was awarded for the technical so this was a very smart play by Eastern Michigan.  This year they changed the rules when calling a timeout when you have none to just 1 technical (same for hanging on the rim) in the past it was 2 shots and the ball so like when Chris Webber did it back in the day Michigan would have still had a shot win the game with the new rules back last year and back then it killed you with 2 shots and the other team getting the ball.

So teams would be smart to start using this new loop hole of a rule like EM just did.  In a lot of games when a team is up 1 point with under 3 seconds left with 1 FT they now usually miss the FT on purpose so the other team has to catch the ball and shoot an 80 footer to try and win but it would now be smart of them to call timeout give the team another FT and be down 2 pts and get a 3 point shot to win it at the end.

The first game in Cleveland always worries me the most.  IMO, the Zips biggest advantage over the rest of the MAC is depth, and it is why we've made so many conference finals.

Hopefully our opponent has as hard-fought a game as we did.  In that case, I'll bet on the Zips bench being better than the other team's bench any day of the week.  Most of the MAC schools seem to have 6 decent players, while Akron seems to have 9 - those fresh legs make a bigger and bigger difference in these back-to-back games.

Building up for another letdown. Should have just turned the game off.

Dude seriously. You are the most negative poster on this forum. Why do you continue to show up and pass around negativity? If it isnt basketball its football. You never think the zips can win, no matter who they play, where they play or when they play. Opening tip goes to the opposing team and the game is over in your eyes. Please do us all a favor and leave the negative comments at the door. No one wants to hear it
