In terms of #2, you have the wrong Walker. Jaylin Walker is their second leading scorer and had a number of 20+ pt games, including 24 against Texas and 29 a couple of times. He's a dangerous player and the Zips let him get hot and did a poor job defending him on the 3s or driving.

No, I had the right guy.  But I had last season's stats.

Funny I saw some comments about Kent being a 14-15 and Will get throttled.   Guess they are missing the point that we aren't in the dance and they are as a #6 seed.   You think Akron could do that???   No way in h...........!!!

Akron was the #6 seed in the 2011 MAC Tourney, won it (v #1 Kent), and went to the dance.

At least it spares us from getting a 12 or 13 seed and getting throttled ourselves.  At least we can probably pick up a win...wait, on second thought...no we won't.  We'll probably get throttled in the NIT.

I talked to my dad after the game, he was watching at home.  The Cincinnati game ran over ours...by like 12 min of game time.  Then the Top team in the MAC goes down to the 6th team in the MAC.

MAC Basketball is on it's deathbed.  If it wasn't already apparent, it's now almost completely irrelevant.

It feels like I in the movie Groundhog Day.  I keep waking up and there is a repeat of the MAC championship game.  Great Akron crowd, poor Akron performance.  I feel bad for Kd and the players.  Nobody on the team wanted this ending.  I thought Kent played a great second half in the Ohio game and they did the same thing tonight.  Their execution in the second half was nearly flawless.  Walker had a great game.  I thought our team did well penetrating to the basket and getting some easy shots.  However, we could not shoot the 3 ball when it counted.  We could not get stops when we needed them.  We could not shoot foul shots.  Kd indicated that this was one of his best offensive teams.  Not sure what happened to that great offensive team.  Sure did not look great offensively tonight.  We needed somebody to get hot from the 3 line and it did not happen when the game was on the line.  I would still like a home NIT game but doubt it will happen.  Maybe the team can make a run in the NIT and give our younger players some experience playing top competition.

See my post in the "Coach Dambrot" thread.  We are on our way to becoming Steve Hawkins and Western Michigan.  And I don't care if we are the class of the classless MAC.  Tired of being an apologist for him.  Just because we all fear going back to those horrible "Hipsher" years doesn't mean you have to accept the currrent status quo.

My comment relative to Kent being a 14 or 15 seed was in response to someone predicting a Cinderella run for them and my feelings on the weaknesses of the MAC. He'll yes I'd take a 14 or 15 seed for the Zips.

Not that this matters anymore, but Akron's RPI will likely finish in the 50's.  Kent's RPI is #143.  So, you would have never had to worry about being a 15 Seed, like Kent is going to be.

My biggest frustration with this team is that they were the same team last night that they were in their first game.  They may have even regressed.  Still getting beat with dribble penetration, Big Dog still trying to guard guys 20 feet from the basket, no leaders on the floor, still making mistakes in guarding the pick and roll...on...and...on...and...on.  Our opponents eventually figured out what we were doing on offense and defense and no changes were made to counter them.

I would have went with, "Sad." at the end.

I always thought one of the toughest thing to do as an athlete is to lose a tough game, and then ten minutes later talk about it to the media. Here are some thoughts from Noah, ten minutes after losing an incredible emotional game.

Noah: "I mean, it's tough now, but I think overall we had a good season. Obviously not the outcome that we wanted. I feel so bad for Big Dog and Kwan, Carlitos and Mark, guys that just come in and compete every single day. I came in here as a 17-year old kid, and I'm 20 years old now, and those guys just taught me a lot on and off the court. Just tremendous, I mean I'm hurting really bad inside, but I mean, I got those guys to fall back on. I know those guys will keep me sane for at least the next couple days. I mean, it hurts right now, but I'm appreciative to be a part of this university. Being from Las Vegas, moving to Akron, I appreciate all the hospitality that I've received, and I'm glad to be a Zip. It's a tough day today, but we're a great institution, the great president, great coaching, great players and we have a great support system. But it hurts now, but I'm appreciative of the opportunity that I just had."

Lets be clear on something about this statement.

Coaching basketball is a continual series of changes and adjustments.  Both between games, and during games.  And to even imply that nothing is being evaluated, changed or corrected by this coaching staff endlessly throughout the course of the season and individual games is just stupid.

We had the best scoring team in Dambrot's career at Akron.  So, if everyone had "figured out" our offense long, long ago, they must feel pretty stupid that they weren't able to stop us this year.

We played poorly, Kent defended us well.  That's the end of the story.  And if we keep playing seasons where our post-season hopes are rested completely on the results of one game on a Saturday in early March every year, this will not be the last time we have a Sunday in early March where we all feel like this.

1. These adjustments/changes/corrections are all things Dambrot & co. don't do well, if at all. We had the same exact offense at the beginning of the season as we did at the end.

2. Everyone did have us figured out. Hence the plenty of close games and lack of blow outs against a horrific MAC this year. We were simply more skilled than every team in the MAC, including Can't - they beat on us on pure heart/desire/effort.

3. I'd reach out to the NCAA on this one. Until they modify the automatic bids to include the regular season champion AND the tournament champion, every season will rest completely on the results of one game on a Saturday in early March.

1.  You can say he's not good at it.  That's your opinion.  But you don't know basketball if you think you were seeing everything the same all the time.

2. Playing in more close games doesn't mean you aren't having a record year offensively.

Josh didn't do much during the Ball State game, but he had a nice game vs EMU and then again last night he was the 3rd best player IMO. Glad to see him finish somewhat strong and hope he takes it into next season. We need him.

I'm glad someone brought this up.  He was clearly the guy who was saving our A$$ in the Spot-Up 3-Point Shooting Dept. in those two games.  In fact, I'll say that we could have gotten beaten by EMU, and could have gotten blown out last night, if he didn't come through for us with some clutch shots.

That's on the team, more than its on us. They raise our expectations every season. On February 17, we were 22-4 12-1. They crap their pants against Kent and went 4-4 against conference opponents when it mattered.

The "one game" thing is what we get in college basketball. I don't like it, but that's how it is. You play 30+ games then the post-season is one game series'. Although, with the late season collapse, could the Zips have won a series against the Golden Flushes?

Year after year it's the same northeast Ohio "good enough but can't close the deal" BS.
