To win we need to have our 5 best players on the court as many minutes as we possibly can.

:thumb:  And that's what any coach would do, regardless of what someone else might define as each player's "number".

I would love to see a smaller lineup at times playing uptempo with some full court pressure defense. I think with our guards and lengthy wings we have a nice roster for it. But I think we would get hammered on the boards with it being our main lineup. I do agree that we don't really have any other options down low unless we get a transfer in. I think Olajapoke and Hughes can move a lot better than Dog. Should be interesting

I think it's hard to deny Utomi's potential.

Utomi could be awesome.  He's built like a Mack truck w/ a smooth jumper.  That's rare.

...one of Tino/Noah will be on the bench, which the new coach could very well look into as both are really point guards and not 2 guards.

I hope our new coach feels the freedom to do that.  I think KD may have felt a little obligation to start both Noah & 'Tino?  Idk, but they're both PG's.  'Tino's a Lead Guard, but at 5'10" is awfully short to be considered a 2, let alone guard one.

I'd go:

PG: Noah / Antino    (like you, I prefer Antino, but he's a perfect "Instant O" 6th man)

W: Ivey / Parrish

W: Utomi / Parrish / Eubanks

P: Williams / Poke

P: Hughes / Sayles

That's a versatile 9-10-man rotation.

Gotta pressure & push tempo next year.

Heck we started the season with 3 (relatively small) guards all starting together.

True, Skip, but that smallish 3-guard lineup wasn't a very good one.  After our loss to YSU I posted that I thought this was going to be a disappointing year.  We won a ton of MAC games by the skin of our teeth so record looked good... but we weren't.  Not really.

whose going to start at PF and C for us next season?

I'm picking Isaiah Williams to start for us at PF next year.  He's a stretch 4 & was a stud in high school - is 6'7" & can handle the ball & likes to drive to the hole.  I think he's going to be a treat to watch.

The smaller lineup actually plays into some of the things I'd like to see under a new regime- more up tempo and pushing the ball on offense; occasional full court pressure on defense; better switches on defense; and some zone on defense occasionally to mix things up.

YES!

There is a concern about lack of size next year, but I think it's important to note Jimond stepped up in the rebounding department towards the end of the season. If he can out-rebound other teams' wings I wouldn't be worried about Utomi playing the 4.

Well now I officially think next year is going to be rough. I thought we had enough talent to win the MAC with what was left.

+1.  I honestly thought we were going to win the MAC next year.  But Antino was a key piece of the puzzle.

Get the young guys as much experience as possible next season and go from there. JUCOs are a necessity at this point. We have 4 guys confirmed transferring, two of them PGs, and the last PG could still do it as well. 6 players from last season are gone as of right now. This sucks. I always hate seeing people wish these players luck. You're either with us or against us.

Thats why I thought Anthony Stewart from UT Martin would be a great hire. Akron guy. Proven recruiter. Has a HIGH MAJOR son committed to the SEC. I believe he's Tennessee Mr. Basketball but not sure. 6'5 " guard. Could probably play on the MAC.

Thank you. Nothing irks me more than when these guys put "forever a zip" in their departing letters. No you aren't. You are a sellout to your teammates. Bye Felicia.

Are they all going with KD???

Only player going with KD is TDM. These transfers were planned before KD departed, by the way.

that is unreal. Why were they all deserting? It is not like we had a horrible year, or Tino wasn't getting playing time.

All of this doesn't bother me that much.  However, this has been a huge reality check for me on the nature of what Akron basketball and division I basketball is all about.  It's like that old song, "Is that all there is?"
