NCAA Tournament

Recommended Posts

What an amazing cross and header on the 3rd goal.

The first few years, Embick needed to prove that Akron wasn't just Caleb Porter, that Akron was a powerhouse that happened to be taken to the next level by Porter. Since then, he is consistently putting together strong seasons. All season I kept saying all we needed to do was get into the NCAA tournament. Well, here we are - onto the Sweet 16!

Coach Bobby Muuss:

"Akron has been to two of the last three College Cups. It's going to be a great college soccer match," Muuss added. "For a college soccer fan and for a soccer purist, these are two teams that like to play. We played them my first season and it was one of the best games I've been involved in since I've been here."

"As a Wake fan, I'd much rather play (and lose, if it comes to that) to an Akron that actually attempts to play technically than to get run over by an overly physical direct team [Stanford Cardinal].  I don't think there are two programs that have "technical soccer" more ingrained in their DNA than Wake and Akron. Suffice to say, I'm excited as well. Should be a great game."

Not sure how Embick feels about Wake but I'd love to play them every year. Our people need to get with their people and get it done. Loved the Wake/UNC swing we did a number of years ago.

2010, the year we won the National Championship.

9/3/10 Akron at UNC

9/5/10 Akron at WF

10/29/11 WF at Akron

10/15/13 WF at Akron

9/30/14 Akron at WF

9/22/15 WF at Akron

I do not believe that UNC was ever interested in playing at Akron. Much respect for WF being willing to do so. I would love to start up a home and home series with them again, too.

The ACC I should just add Akron. Problem solved.

What a nice bedtime thought. Unfortunately it will never happen. Maybe in my dreams tonight. That's the best we can do.

Wake Forest finally has a news release out on the game

https://wakeforestsports.com/news/2018/11/23/mens-soccer-soccer-gameday-no-1-wake-forest-vs-no-16-akron.aspx

it is interesting to me to compare ticket prices

Wake Forest will charge $8 for NCAA round of 16

Syracuse charged $6 for NCAA round of 32

Akron soccer charged $20 for round of 64

my conclusion - Akron has to charge more....to cover the costs of the disappointing gridiron team that can not pay off the huge costs associated with Infocision stadium.

I guess I thought the NCAA would set pricing for the games uniformly throughout the tourney....surprised, thanks for the comparison.

Getting pumped about the trip down to Wake Forest tomorrow. Supposed to be sunny and mid 50’s. Should be some great soccer. Got my $5 over 55 tix in hand. Go Zips! Hopefully I’m not the only Zip fan there!

I will not be in attendance, but I will definitely be watching.  And I assure you that you will not be alone in attending.  Find the other Zips;  sit together;  and be loud!

Akron also had $10 general admission tickets though, it's not like $20 was the cheapest ticket.

...The Zips also feature Morgan Hackworth (4g, 4a), the son of former Deacon player and assistant coach John Hackworth, now head coach of Louisville City FC in the USL. ...

4 minute and 40 second interview with Jared.

Chad Welker does a nice job with these interviews.

Jared is very nice to give a lot of credit to Brett Draper and Tim Campbell

Brett, Tim, and their assistants do a great job keeping the Zips healthy and well-conditioned.

#11 seed Maryland and #3 seed Kentucky are the first 2 teams that have advanced to the final 8.

#11 seed defeated #6 seed Duke 2-0

#3 seed.....Kentucky won 2-1 over Lipscomb

They will face each other next weekend in Lexington for a spot in the final four

Sasho Cirovski has performed a small miracle this season.  That team was a MESS in Aug/Sept.  The team that got drubbed in Seattle early had no chance of earning a trip to the postseason.  Where the new team came from I dunno, but coach C deserves plenty credit for finding them.

Question with Kentucky -- as well as they've played all season is,  what will happen if and when they hit the College Cup.  Their first time in the limelight -- will they hold up under the pressure?

Travis got one thing wrong: St Mary's isn't headed to the Farm.  The Farm team is headed to Moraga this morning!  Will the streak continue?
