Update on Rivals Team Rankings for 2023 (does not yet include portal commitments):

MAC Rankings followed by National Rankings in parentheses.

1 - (79) Central Michigan

2 - (82) Miami

3 - (93) Western Michigan

4 - (95) Akron

4 - (95) Eastern Michigan

6 - (98) Ball State

7 - (99) Buffalo

7 - (99) Toledo

9 - Northern Illinois

10 - Ohio

11 - Bowling Green

12 - Kent State

If we finish in the top 100 it will be the highest ranking for the Zips since 2010.

If you look at the numbers above, the difference between 4th and 9th place in the Rivals MAC rankings is very small.  247 sports have missed a couple of Zip recruits, but they have Akron rated #10 in the MAC and #104 nationally.  Sorry, but I could not get a link posted.  The coaches got some real good recruits, but we need additional good high school players (including Bowen and Long) and Transfer Portal additions for this class to be very successful and propel the Zips to many wins in 2023.

Go Zips!!!!

For comparison purposes (and I know @catdaddyp at rivals has been working harder than 247 on Akron), 247 has our high school class ranked at #104 overall and 10th in the MAC. With that said, they don't yet have James, Spriggs, and Dall rated, and only gave Wasel a 80.19 grade.

On3 has us ranked #119 (10th in MAC again), but has Wasel rated at 84.97, and I believe that ranking includes transfers. We are likely going to add a decent amount of players still, so that should go up some.

Regardless of where we end up ranked, I think this class complements last year’s class really well. If I recall correctly, we landed a slew of portal/JUCO players between April-June like Holt, Undercuffler, George, Price, and Thomas. And I believe the majority of the class was signed during the second signing period. It’s incredible we were able to land guys like Landers and McCoy that late in the game. I recall JoeMo giving Sam Popper a lot of credit for last year’s recruiting class.

All that being said, I feel confident the staff will land some more difference makers before the 2023 season arrives and we’ll have a solid shot at finishing with a top 100 ranking this year.

I’m pretty certain the entirety of last year’s class was signed during the second signing period. We’ve only hit the midway point in this year’s class 💪💪

I can hardly wait til the Zips crack that 100 mark so I can brag about it to all my friends.

Me: "Look out fellows; the Zips just had what at least one rating service is calling the 99th best recruiting class in the country! Are you hearing me, the 99th best?"

Friend: "How many teams are there?"

Me: "I forget the exact number but it's somewhere in the thousands."

Friend: "Wow."

Haha, that’s one way to look at it. I believe there will be 69 P5 teams in 2023 and beating any of them in recruiting is a tough task. Especially for a team that has won 5 games in 4 years. Although it’s not an exact science, better recruiting usually correlates to more wins.

Kind of depressed to see that the new regime has improved our recruiting from bottom of the barrel to just above the bottom of the barrel.

Not exactly. As things currently stand we’d also be 5th in the Mountain West, 5th in the Sun Belt, and 6th in Conference USA. Under Arth we were getting out recruited by not only the majority of FBS teams, but also a slew of FCS teams.

I guess it just depends on ones definition of "bottom of the barrel" and "slightly above bottom of the barrel."  We appear to agree on the former, but not the latter.

So, did Lorenzo Lingard just come out of nowhere? He has to be the highest rated player we've ever singed. Now we just need to actually open holes for him to run through or maybe he can create on his own!

I just hope that this signing does not put Kellom into the Transfer Portal. It may be a short-term gain for a long-term loss.

A DB would be -20000 odds given the tweeter haha. Other than that, I don't know who either. We've been offering DBs like crazy.

Tre Bell has been Oprah with the offers.

For sure. Bilhal Kone said he will have his decision made by tomorrow night. I don’t know if that is literal or if he is announcing his decision tomorrow night with it already made. Could be him. We’ll see.

Visited Akron, Montana, and Western Michigan.

Nate was a solid example of a Rutgers  5 Star that turned into an Akron 1-Star.

He did tackle Beanie Wells(?) in the end zone for a safety IIRC.  OSUcks hit a FG as time expired in the half to lead us 3-2.  I was at the game & going crazy!  We ended up losing, what, 24-2, or something like that.  But it was a pretty competitive game.

I think it was 3-2 well into the 3rd quarter? Robinson wasn’t a complete bust, but if stars mattered, his 5-star rating was a solid 3-to-4 too high.
