WKU I heard had something in the neighborhood of 32 transfers this past offseason.

That doesn't sound correct, even if their entire 2021 class was transfers. The max addition for scholarship players in any given year prior to 2022 was 25. Unless they were able to convince a lot of players to transfer as walk ons...

Based on the expected hire of Moorhead, I'm expecting 6 wins minimum.

I don't think your far off but I'll leave this as food for thought: We have 3 payday games in MSU, Tenn, and Liberty. Liberty is the most winnable but they are still tough. 3 pay day games makes it really difficult to have high-win season. As an example, Kent has their best team in some time and will likely win the MAC, but their record is only 7-5 as a result of playing Texas A&M, Iowa, and Maryland. Just doesn't leave much room for error in conference play.

Fordham was 1-10 before Moorhead took over. His first year: 6-5. With the transfer portal being wide open, I expect a significant influx of talent that is on par with the top of the MAC at the very least, if not superior. We can offer several things many programs - especially G5 - can't...

1) Upper-echelon P5-caliber coaching

2A) Instant Playing Time/Starting Position

2B) Turn heads of NFL Scouts

If you look at some of the top Head Coaches (Meyer, Kelly, Solich, Campbell, Fleck) in the last 2 decades in the MAC, by year 2 they were all winning a minimum of 6 games. The delay in achieving a minimum of 6 wins was presumably due to 1) transfers having to sit a year and 2) waiting on the first recruiting class. None of those guys had a track record like Moorhead coming into the MAC, and Moorhead doesn't have to wait a year for first-time transfers to make an impact on the field. I expect an accelerated turnaround based on these factors. Don't be surprised if MSU, Tennessee, and Liberty are closer than expected. Moorhead is the caliber of coach that can out-scheme nearly any opposing team.

I went and found an article. It looks like the real number was 26 out of the 105 players on the roster. Some were walk-ons.

Edit: Also, not all buy games are the same. If you're good enough to win the MAC, you have a decent chance of upsetting a team like Maryland. I actually like games against programs like Maryland, Nebraska, Illinois, etc. as you have nothing to lose by playing, but if you upset them you have tons to gain. It's when you start playing OSU, Alabama, Clemson, Notre Dame that you kind of are just penciling in losses.

My idea of progress:

Year one- an influx of transfer portal and JUCO talent to bring the program up to speed.  3-4 wins.

Year two- Retain players.  Improved freshman recruiting class.  Continued growth, 2nd year players start to contribute. 5-6 wins.

Year three- competing for MAC East title.  More movement towards better freshman recruits due to improved program, less reliance on JUCOs and transfers. 8-9 wins.

Year four-  Zips Nation purchased by Alphabet due to its high traffic and profit potential.  Captain Kangaroo retires in Barbados on the proceeds after hosting the largest tailgate in UA history.

Year 5 Moorhead poached by Pittsburgh and Akron reverts back to being 2-10

You say this like its a problem!   🙂

Exactly.  @kreed5120 was posting tongue-in-cheek, I'm sure, but his scenario would show the U's financial commitment paid off & we've upped our standards for the subsequent coaching search.

Should be about 26 hours till Coach Moorehead signs on the dotted line! 🤞🙏🤞🙏

EDIT: I just realized I put this in a football thread. I apologize. There was a "Progress" thread I thought for basketball, and when I searched for it, this came up. Thought it was the basketball one. I was wondering why Moorhead was mentioned in a basketball thread, but figured it had something to do with overall success for the University. Whoops. Post has been moved to a basketball thread. Happy Monday. (Insert vintage tomato hitting face emoji)
