They told him they would pay him $100k. All he has recieved is a $3k relocation fee.

According to Ross Dellinger, the collective never agreed to the $100k. In fact, the collective's first contact with the agent was in August. Any alleged promise by the assistant coach was never in writing, nor was anything signed. Whether or not you believe UNLV's claim that the QB asked for more money as they were working on getting him $3k per month, the QB and his agent are Kent-level dumbasses for not having anything signed.

I think he'll be fine. He might even be able to come ahead of what the assistant verbally offered since he now has game tape showing he can perform at a high level against P5 competition. I wouldn't be surprised if he signs for $200k somewhere, which is certainly much more than the $12k he would have gotten had he stayed and exhausted his last remaining year of eligibility.

Edit: Heck I imagine even Akron in our poverty state could come up with more than $12k to pay this kid with one call to Kaulig.

Is his game tape really anything impressive? Thrown for 318 yards over 3 games with a completion percentage of 43.8%. Solid rusher, but only 84 yards a game. Passing appears to leave a lot to be desired. Rushing is good, but not out of this world numbers..

He's the leading passer and rusher on a team that is 3-0 with 2 P4 wins. He's pretty much been a 1 man offense.  He's going to draw some interest.

I don't necessarily think he's going to be the top QB in the portal. I think Caleb Williams got $1 million. He's certainly not that level of good. Perhaps I was overestimating saying $200k, but it's certainly going to be much more than $12k. Time will tell on what the exact figure is.

Hard to believe UNLV doesn't stand by its promises...

I applaud the QB, who's obviously got a pretty good head on his shoulders.

I agree. If someone offered any one of us a job and then didn't pay us, we'd stop going to work also.

His value will get sorted out but the much bigger story IMO is UNLV now being stuck in the MWC with the left-behinds and whatever FCS schools they backfill with.

Lots of moving pieces still until any of this is solidified. PAC12 is having trouble finding 2 more members to get to the 8 team minimum. I'm not even sure the MW teams that said they'll join are all the way out yet given the 8-team uncertainty and TV contract uncertainty. Of all the G5 conferences, the MW is sitting pretty with their ability to add NDSU, SDSU, Montana, and Montana State. Compare that crop of programs to what the CUSA/American/MAC/Sun Belt have to pick from - advantage MW.

Important time for the MAC to be proactive. WKU, Liberty, Delaware, MTSU, Illinois State, etc. Start drumming up interest and planting your flag as a premier G5 conferences, instead of a fringe conference CUSA.

Well we all know the MAC is nothing if not proactive 🙃

What would NIU and UT do with the rest of thier sports as football-only members? The MAC would not retain them for all other sports, would it?

If the MAC has any sense of dignity and self respect, they'd kick all of Toledo's and NIU's athletics out of the MAC. Problem is, Steinbrecher is beholden to an image that appeals to certain groups of people, and I'm not sure he has the spine to do that.

I'm just not on board with partial members unless it's very specific circumstances in very specific sports, but at this rate the MAC is losing ground within its own sphere - no longer sponsoring men's soccer is a bad sign. Too many MAC members don't have the money to sponsor even the traditinal lineup: BGSU has no men's T&F, etc.

They wouldn't be allowed to have any other sports with the MAC and would have to take other sports to a conference without FBS football

Toledo may want to go to a conference with members they can actually beat in their March basketball tournament.

I don't think them staying in the MAC is an option per NCAA rules. Your home conference is the one that your basketball program is in. It's my understanding that you can't be an affiliated FBS member in football to another conference if your home conference sponsors FBS football

The MAC allows affiliate membership in various Olympic sports which could still include departed football members but I'm not sure about basketball.

Yeah it's not a MAC rule, it's NCAA. They wouldn't be allowed to do football in the MWC and hoops et all in the MAC

UTEP is joining the Mountain West and Gonzaga is joining the PAC today. These two moves probably don’t impact the MAC on their own but it will be interesting to see how many more dominos fall. If C-USA once again looks like a sinking ship I’m wondering if we revisit grabbing WKU or even consider Delaware since that’s not too far from UMASS.

I believe Texas State announced yesterday they are also going to the Mountain West.

Oh I hadn’t seen that one as being a done deal yet but that would be interesting. Maybe the SBC would be looking to poach a C-USA team or two to fill the gap.
