Give it a few more years of the B1G spanking the SEC and then some senator from Alabama or Louisiana will make reform a priority. Just look at how involved the Louisiana Governor was in the recent coaching change.

It's an easy way for them to gain favor with their constituents without having to do a whole lot.

At what point do anti trust laws apply to P4 conferences?  My guess is it's more likely to give them an anti trust exemption, see MLB, than not.

What role would a collective bargaining agreement have in an anti trust agreement?  I don't know these answers, but it seems as if we are approaching this point fast than I ever expected.

Or continuing to open the door for greedy lawyers to uncover the next supposed loop hole allowing them to file suit on behalf of some 'student' athlete willing to go along with it and therefore pausing any forward progress. I'm just disenchanted and not as optimistic as you are that the current state of chaos has any near term resolution. But I'm hoping I am wrong, you are right.

My thought about the chaos is this. It seems to me that P4 conferences are benefiting from the chaos. They are making money hand over fist and opportunities for success in P4 have increased. Indiana vs Miami seems to pretty good evidence. The transfer portal and player payments don't seem to keep people away from attending or watching games. I don't know why the P4 schools would want to reign any of this in given money is their driving motivation. It seems to me that pushing the greed to see what the breaking point may be is the most logical course of action.

The one advantage to changing our logo every few years is lost in this scenario, if they're going to put our name right below it.

So college football players are going to have more ads on their jersey than NASCAR drivers…

How many of these programs can outspend Akron in constant free agency.

Never mind, I don't want to know...

Kenni is acting like he graduated from Kent St.

It's 2026. He can identify as a Kent graduate if he wants and who are we to say no?

I'm team Kenni. Win that lawsuit.

I'm honestly not opposed to the top 40-50 programs splitting off and forming a professional league. It might be what's best for collegiate athletics as a whole. Perhaps that could help create stability for everyone else. It's evident we'll never get back to what things where 10-20+ years ago.

I think it would help create stability for everyone else, except those teams near the top of that "top 40-50" that are trying to get into the big boys club.

This sort of plan would absolutely create more stability for the Akrons of the world.

Wonder if UA will see any windfall from this.  Do we have any openings?  I imagine most P4 rosters are likely set, so the smaller schools will see more of a benefit from this.

Edit/Note: NCAA plans to appeal "on an expedited basis"

This is the reality of college football in 2026. We talk about lawsuits weeks before the season starts and not teams. It's all so gross.

Other than following the Zips, I've lost all interest in college football and basketball because of stuff like this. The extreme capitalization is ruinous to so many things. I'm just tired of it.

Exactly, if I wanted to watch professional football or basketball, I'd watch the NFL (which I do) or the NBA (which I rarely do). College sports is now trying to mirror professional sports, but frankly the product they offer is inferior. Its lost what made it unique.

I still like college basketball and believe it's better today than ever.

I don't find myself looking forward to college football the way I used to. Further, I don't think college football is as good of a product as it used to be. Throw the NFL in there also. The game itself is boring. Everyone looks like they are just working out. Guys bump into ball carriers and don't wrap them up. Ball carriers go down too easily. In the name of concussions, they have removed physicality from the spot. It's just bad entertainment now.
