No offense to Zips soccer, but I hope anyone interested in the Guardians is at that game instead. My kids and I are going to the Guardians game - gotta let Skubal know he's well loved in Cleveland. We're actually sitting near where Lane Thomas hit the grand slam. 

 

Weather should be great, though, and the student turnout needs to be good tonight. Every match is big when you have a championship-caliber team. Right the ship tonight and let's get back on track. Go Zips (and Guardians)!

When I turn on ESPNU, my cable directory for 1 p.m. Hawai'i Standard Time shows "Men's College Soccer from Huntington Bank Field in Cleveland, Ohio".  So the ticket demand was so great the game had to be moved to a larger venue?  Doh!  #GoAK Rowdies!!

The review in Akron's defensive goal area was much more of a penalty than what was called on the Billiken keeper, in my opinion.  Ref might get Akron's game ball!  😆

As Jared told Chad, Akron was the far more aggressive and dominant team that first half.  Just gotta keep it up the 2nd stanza.  Sure would like a goal from run-of-play.  We need to finish our opportunities.  Have you heard that before?

Passing thoughts on the game b/c I have nothing better to do:

• Forget the rankings, the Zips are a top ten team. If what we saw from SLU was true to them, they are not a top 20 team.
• Akron was the far better team tonight.
• Our MF's were outstanding, especially in the first half
  • They won the 50/50 balls
  • They set up many beautiful shooting opportunities
  • They filled the passing lanes so well SLU rarely put together more that 2 passes
  • They repeatedly played the ball on the ground out of severe pressure.
• Having Freddy returning to the backline steadied the defense. I wish he was in there against UConn.
• The character of this team was on full display. They showed no fear of SLU or memory of having lost the last two. This team is confident and proud, but not arrogant.
• Jack Roman has emerged as a threat every time he has the ball. Coming from the wing he will force teams to widen their back four.
• Mitch and Ashton are both 1st team All-Americans. They will play in MLS.
• Matt Dreas is the unsung glue to our MF. 
• Credit to our coaches for filling 8 open positions this season and for continuing to find the best combinations of players. We are getting better and finding a lot of depth.

Great match tonight from the Zips! When we dominate a top-10 team like that, I wonder if the other team is overrated or were underrated. I think we're underrated, obviously.

 

Also, great to see former Zip and current Crew goalkeeper, Evan Bush in attendance. Along with fellow Crew goalkeeper and USMNT goalkeeper, Patrick Schulte.

Great game / win last night. Excellent response following the UConn game. Many impressive plays last night. Players worked hard throughout. Need to keep that full on effort going into Butler.

It's a shame that ESPNU couldn't have gotten a mic down ro talk to those two MLS keepers.  Frankly, the TV broadcast was "bare bones" at best.  No better than ESPN+.  But I hope the national broadcast was viewed by all those poll voters who after seeing Akron Zips' dominance, will quickly return the team to the top 10!  🙏
