TennZip Posted September 5 Report Posted September 5 I know that when I saw the Zips schedule, I immediately said that the game at St. Louis would be the toughest non conference game on the schedule. After looking at the box score tonight for #20 Cornell hosting #21 Cal Santa Barbara, I am now convinced that Cornell will be the toughest game on the non conference schedule. Cornell started the seaon on August 29 with a 3-0 win over Marist. Tonight, Cornell hosted Cal Santa Barbara. Cal Santa Barbara has their best team in many, many years. Cal Santa Barbara(UCSB) has not had the best luck in getting wins....but the statistics say that they have been dominant against Excellent teams. UCSB played historic top 10 team Marshall. The game ended in a 1-1 tie. UCSB dominated the stats. SB led 25-9 in shots ; 7-5 in SOG and 10-3 in corner kicks. In their next big match, UCSB played #2 ranked San Diego. Again, the game ended in a 1-1 tie. However, again, the Gauchos led 21-11 in shots and 5-2 in SOG. San Diego did lead 4-2 in corner kicks. San Diego's only goal came on a PK so it appears that UCSB dominated the run of the play. Well, what happened tonight ...when the Gauchos traveled to Cornell? Cornell won 2-1 . The statistics are unbelievably dominant for Cornell(especially considering UCSB's prior ranked matchups) Cornell led 20-4 in shots Cornell led 6-2 in SOG last but not least...Cornell led 12-0 in corner kicks Zips fans need to rush to First Energy Stadium on Tuesday night. They are going to see great soccer on Tuesday night. 2 Quote
TennZip Posted September 5 Author Report Posted September 5 Outstanding press release from Cornell...about last night's game https://cornellbigred.com/news/2026/9/4/millers-late-strike-lifts-mens-soccer-past-no-21-uc-santa-barbara-2-1.aspx "I thought it was an excellent game. It didn't seem like just our second game of the season - tt was almost played with postseason intensity," said John Smith, the Dr. Daniel P. Wood Head Coach of Men's Soccer "Quite often that happens when you play against a really good opponent. I thought we were fairly dominant in the first half - probbaly could have capitalized on some of the opportunities we created, but we didn't. The second half was a bit more even, although I do think we outweighed them in terms of chances created. We rode our luck when they hit the bar, but two great goals, and overall, really an excellent performance against a very good team." Quote
TennZip Posted Monday at 07:12 PM Author Report Posted Monday at 07:12 PM (edited) Nice preview on Cornell site https://cornellbigred.com/gameday/mens-soccer-vs-university-of-akron/msoccer/4606/ Cornell leads the all-time series with Akron, 2-0-1, and has never lost to the Zips: a 3-2 overtime win at Akron in 1980, a 3-2 double-overtime win at Akron in 2019, and a 0-0 draw at home in Ithaca last season (Oct. 7, 2025) — the two teams' most recent meeting. Akron (18.67 shots/gm) and Cornell (18.0 shots/gm) rank eighth and 11th, respectively, in NCAA Division I this season — Cornell led the nation in the category a year ago at 20.10 shots per game Edited Monday at 07:14 PM by TennZip 1 Quote

I saw this for one of our basketball opponents last year or maybe the year before also. It may have been Princeton, so maybe it's an Ivy League thing 😄 Quote

MDZip Posted Tuesday at 11:43 PM Report Posted Tuesday at 11:43 PM That was a fairly weak goal by Cornell. Can't believe the Zips didn't stop. First goal against them this year. Quote
