  1. Past hour
  2. Still waiting to find out: Who's Clara? 🤔
  3. I feel a need to object to this statement. I know there is much frustration that the Women's team hasn't been competitive in the MAC in a long time. However, the idea that the players are not "D1 caliber" is based on that frustration I think rather than actual analysis. I believe virtually every recruit over the past 3 years or so has had ECNL experience, which is the highest level of competition in girls youth soccer. The team's talent is sufficient to compete at the middle of the Mid-American Conference, or at least the 3rd quartile. They are not the worst MAC team on paper. Emma King had, what, 186 goals for Manchester High School? UMass who we lost MAC game 1 to is one of the league favorites. There's no reason why the team can't come away with a few conference wins over the next 6 weeks. Then, hopefully the AD comes up with a full-time coach with the resumé that deserves to coach a program with Akron's facilities and potential. It looks like the women draw some fans. I hope the community is behind the program and the department sees the obvious potential in Women's Soccer at Akron.
  4. Today
  5. ESPNU Broadcast! Does anyone remember the last time an Akron soccer game was nationally broadcast? Was it the (2018?) National Title match versus Maryland? I'll do my best to take a work break to see this one. #GoZips!
  6. A friend told me the Akron first half goal was Sports Center Number One Play of the day. Anyone else catch that?
  7. Was at the game. To me this one was pretty meaningless after Wyoming and UAB. Duquesne is a BAD FCS team on both sides of the ball. Zips ran the ball well. Finley still made his bad passes against a bad D but thankfully it didn't matter. The real season starts now. I'll take 4 wins in the MAC to admit there is progress. Otherwise time for the program to move on.
  8. At the time the Dialer was being designed, the economy was a LOT better than we will probably ever see again. There were decent crowds at the Rubber Blow, the team was competitive and we thought they would be much better at a shiny new on campus stadium. The AA minor league ball team was setting attendance record at their downtown ball park. Huge improvement over Thurman Munson Stadium. Enrollment was up, as we found it was a scam to get kids in college. Whether they were capable of passing college or working on a degree that actually had demand. Locals with cloudy memories of rock concerts at the Rubber Bowl. So yeah, we all thought fans would show up. It seemed like a good idea at the time.
  9. I truly hope this is a turning point and a momentum turner, but I'm going to hold off celebrating a win over a 1-3 Fcs team whose only win is against a winless D2 school. Akrons game was very good but it should have been. Duquesne offense was one of the worst college offenses I have ever seen and Finley is still hit and miss. I think we go 0-3 the next stretch.
  10. I don’t know how much better this team is but this team looks more athletic. More disciplined and less mistakes than the past Joe teams.
  11. Kicking the crap out of a 1-AA team is exactly what's supposed to happen.
  12. Saturday September 20 Vermont 4-2 road win over Fairfield St. Louis 1-0 road win against Duquesne Cornell earns a 3-0 home win against NJIT Northern Kentucky at Robert Morris ....2-2 Tie Oakland at Cleveland State ....CSU 1-0 win Dayton at VCU....postponed due to weather....the 2 teams will play Sunday night at 7
  13. Toledo bonks at WMU..
  14. Go Zips! Nice win. Hopefully they can carry some momentum into conference play.
  15. That seems to cut down the conversation! I'm content to see them do what they should do.
  16. What in the world is this page going to do, not much to bitch about!?!
  17. Yesterday
  18. I mean, this is good. Duquesne isn't an awful FCS team. But save some of it for teams with a pulse. Or 1-11, whatever
  19. Well we are smoking them now. So at least we're better than a team from the NEC. Run up the score now lol.
  20. It’s 24-0 with 11 minutes left in the 2nd fellas. That’s an ass whooping so far, besides Finleys INT.
  21. I suspect there's a reason he's on his 4th school in his college career (while Finley is on his 3rd).
  22. No disrespect to Duquesne, but there is absolutely no reason this game should be this close. We are BAD, really bad.
