Based on the personnel so far, I think Akron can play a multitude of styles and be successful. The concrete issue with last year's team was its true peak was a certain style and Groce didn't fully want to commit to that. This squad looks like it can beat you with finesse, physicality, speed, possession, etc.

I suspect Ford will follow Groce's lead and bring in the most talented kids (with character) he can find and adapt the system to his talent.

Even though I find it amusing that a fellow Redbird is now an Akron Zip I have nothing to offer pertaining to Ty Pence. I have watched very little ISU basketball. I checked into a game and I remember thinking the pace was just so slow. I have become so accustomed to Akron’s fast pace. So the question I have is will Ty Pence adjust easily to the faster pace? Or is Ford not looking to continue the fast pace offense?

This is Pence's last year of eligibility I believe.

Boals seems to have found more money to compete. They paid to keep Simmons and the 2 guards they've added couldn't have come cheap. I think they will be improved.

He also came off the bench a chunk of the time on a team that made it to the NIT Final Four. He's going to get more PT here, which will likely make him a 12 ppg, 6 rpg type player. That's All Conference in the MAC.

Probably only a starter on a low end HM, think Boston College. Definitely not on a Duke or Kansas. Also, you have to remember the MVC is one of the top mid-majors and many of the people who finish ahead in those all conference teams either graduated or transferred up to a HM. Evan Miya graded him as the 22nd best player in the MVC this past season. It wouldn't seem unreasonable to me that he would have been a top ~10 player in the conference next year had he stayed given that many of the players regarded as better than him left.

You need to look at the advanced stats. His eFG% was .592 and .598 the year before so this past year wasn't a fluke. He rebounds really well for being a wing. Plays good defense. IMO he's a lot like Eric where he does a lot of things very well, but isn't elite at any 1 thing in particular. I really hate looking at counting stats as it's frankly lazy. Would you want a player that averages 20/game, but chucks up 30 shots a night to get it? Of course not. But if you insist at looking at counting stats remember he only played 23 mpg. If he projects to play 30 mpg you can bump his numbers up ~30%. I would also expect him to a more focal part of the offense so his usage will increase compared to Illinois State, which in turn will increase the counting stats.

I need someone to explain to me like I'm 5 why he rates so well by these metrics but his stats were just so-so.

More help is needed, but UA's run through an exhaustive list of coaches, AD's and losing programs for decades. Good luck finding anyone willing to shell out big bucks if they don't feel UA will spend that money wisely. I make my donation to football annually because I like Joe and feel he merits support. I have fun attending the games in the fall. The guy went 5-7 last year despite being hamstrung by a litany of handicaps beyond his control. He's a good coach who wants to be here. I expect 6 wins this season. Which is like 8-9 wins for a respectfully funded program. Infocision is a resource. I think it could be filled to 18-20 k on average and make money even with the University's football acumen and historical shortcomings. But it's easier to say "I wouldn't have built that stadium" and be off the hook. Goodrich has only been around a short while. He hasn't done anything stupid yet, so I have a some hope that he can at least get football pointed in the right financial direction. We'll see...
