2025 Akron Zips Women's Soccer
Z.I.P. replied to Z.I.P.'s topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
I feel a need to object to this statement. I know there is much frustration that the Women's team hasn't been competitive in the MAC in a long time. However, the idea that the players are not "D1 caliber" is based on that frustration I think rather than actual analysis. I believe virtually every recruit over the past 3 years or so has had ECNL experience, which is the highest level of competition in girls youth soccer. The team's talent is sufficient to compete at the middle of the Mid-American Conference, or at least the 3rd quartile. They are not the worst MAC team on paper. Emma King had, what, 186 goals for Manchester High School? UMass who we lost MAC game 1 to is one of the league favorites. There's no reason why the team can't come away with a few conference wins over the next 6 weeks. Then, hopefully the AD comes up with a full-time coach with the resumé that deserves to coach a program with Akron's facilities and potential. It looks like the women draw some fans. I hope the community is behind the program and the department sees the obvious potential in Women's Soccer at Akron. - Today

St. Louis Billikens - Pups on the Pitch

ESPNU Broadcast! Does anyone remember the last time an Akron soccer game was nationally broadcast? Was it the (2018?) National Title match versus Maryland? I'll do my best to take a work break to see this one. #GoZips! -
Home Big East opener - UConn

A friend told me the Akron first half goal was Sports Center Number One Play of the day. Anyone else catch that? -
Was at the game. To me this one was pretty meaningless after Wyoming and UAB. Duquesne is a BAD FCS team on both sides of the ball. Zips ran the ball well. Finley still made his bad passes against a bad D but thankfully it didn't matter. The real season starts now. I'll take 4 wins in the MAC to admit there is progress. Otherwise time for the program to move on.

At the time the Dialer was being designed, the economy was a LOT better than we will probably ever see again. There were decent crowds at the Rubber Blow, the team was competitive and we thought they would be much better at a shiny new on campus stadium. The AA minor league ball team was setting attendance record at their downtown ball park. Huge improvement over Thurman Munson Stadium. Enrollment was up, as we found it was a scam to get kids in college. Whether they were capable of passing college or working on a degree that actually had demand. Locals with cloudy memories of rock concerts at the Rubber Bowl. So yeah, we all thought fans would show up. It seemed like a good idea at the time.

I truly hope this is a turning point and a momentum turner, but I'm going to hold off celebrating a win over a 1-3 Fcs team whose only win is against a winless D2 school. Akrons game was very good but it should have been. Duquesne offense was one of the worst college offenses I have ever seen and Finley is still hit and miss. I think we go 0-3 the next stretch.
