I'm glad to see that Big Dog and Reggie weren't penalized for Akron having so much depth. It shows that the voters actually watched the games by choosing guys like Reggie and Big Dog. who help their team win. over guys that filled a stat sheet on mediocre teams that had little to no depth.3 points

I'm a fan of an opposing team, (my wife's a Zip though) but I'd probably give it to Dambrot this year. He won the league by two games, and while the expectations were high, he's the one who put the pieces in place for that. I'm guessing with the second place finish Phillips is the other one in the top 2. I'd be surprised if the #6 seed's coach got COY. I'd have voted Dambrot, Phillips, Oats in that order. Edit: The women's awards were announced today. Central Michigan's Sue Guevara won COY, despite Boldon at Ohio going 16-2 and winning the league by 2 games.2 points

If it gets too packed at the Corner Alley, I hear there will also be plenty of room at Flannery's,2 points

We should blow them out the way we're playing, especially with rest. They didn't look that good tonight, but hell look at the rest of the league. BG could go on a run right now for all we know. The Roo Invades The Q on Thursday at noon. Take care of business and win this dadgum tournament.2 points

I was actually telling my buddy is is a kent grad. I remember when these two teams despised each other. One game for instance id say late 90s probably,we were at kent, came out at the half with a big lead. Kent always seemed to come storming out at the half amd took the lead. Something happened and there was a brawl between ryan andrick and some of the kent players. I loved those teams and those days, even if it was hipsher ball. Jimmal ball, andrick, bosley, bruuuuuuuuce, etc etc etc. The rivalry was at its peak then when kent ran the mac. Now that we are on top, they just cry and cry and we stomp them into the ground. I love it2 points

Isn't this crazy when you think of Akron's lineup shuffling and depth? That a first-teamer is also 6th man?1 point

FTFY You are trying to compare the #20 rated conference to the #10 rated conference and say it's just a little better. Miami has the worst RPI in the entire MAC and that would be 5th best in MAAC. People give Akron crap for scheduling a handful or so of cupcakes OOC even though they played teams like Villanova (potential #1 seed), Green Bay (who is in the Horizon final), Iona (who won the MAAC), Marshall (who is a #3 seed in CUSA), and UCSB (who enters Big West as #4 seed), and Arkansas. Monmouth played over half their season against nothing but cupcakes.1 point

I've spelled it out. No one on the committee gives a flying **** that our RPI is higher because we beat up on MAC teams while they beat up on MAAC teams. Their conference schedule sucks, ours sucks too, just a little less. That doesn't mean our resume is better, just that we gamed the system a little better. It's why they don't really look at RPI anymore1 point

Let's not forget that we beat the same team by 14 on a neutral court that they loss to twice, once at home and once on a neutral court.1 point

Someone already pointed out that they have 3 Sub-200 losses. If you tout their biggest wins, you also have to tout their truly awful losses as well. If you really think Monmouth wins 13 games in our conference, that's up to you. I disagree. Ok, forget about RPI and just look at Akron's #129 SOS and Monmouth's #199 SOS. We're 70 spots higher, even with all of the "cupcakes", and our records are similar. Seems like a "no brainer" to me.1 point

We beat a bunch of 150-200 RPI teams, they beat a bunch of 200+ RPI teams. Their RPI suffers comparatively for that, but they also had some nice wins that we are lacking. The committee probably sees through the RPI # and knows that if they had our conference schedule, their record would be very similar and their RPI would be higher than ours. You can't control your conference schedule, but you can go on the road and take on some tough teams before January. We feasted on cupcakes, they were beating ND, USC, UCLA and GTown, and they'll most likely get rewarded for it. And our resume? Look, I love the Zips, but what have we done compared to them? Beat OU, KSU, BSU compared to them beating Niagara, Quinnipiac and Siena? I mean, our competition was a slight step up, but you can't point to our conference record as something to beat your chest about. There's no comparison on OOC body of work.1 point

Nonsense? Heaven forbid some college kids have some fun sitting at the end of the bench. They should be banned from the tournament unless they politely golf-clap all of next season.1 point

Ball used to wear an armband on his bicep. After the Zips beat K.e.n.t. for the first time @ K.e.n.t. in something like 31 years, Ball threw the band into the crowd and I caught it. It's somewhere in a closet in my house. I'll donate it to the Zips Hall of Legends that gets built inside our our new basketball arena in 2029. Back then you could sit on the floor with GA tickets, immediately to the right of the Zips bench. The place had more Zips fans than K.e.n.t. fans. On an unrelated note - Last Friday night it was funny to hear the "Boooo's" for Scarborough that increased in volume each time his name was announced. They should flash his face on the Jumbotron when opposing teams shoot free throws.1 point

Plain Dealer food and drink near the Q guide. Anyone know where Kent's official bar is this year?1 point

It's not like either match up would be easy honestly. Still a lot of game though, which means enough time for Toledo to fight back and force a few overtimes.1 point

I remember those years with Jimmal Ball, Bosley, Andrick, Kwanza, George Phillips, etc. Those were some of my favorite teams. Ever. Our starting five were better than K.e.n.t's, but Kent ran 10-deep swapping out two complete rotations at a time. I remember with about 10-minutes to go in one of those games, during a timeout huddle, Jimmal Ball was clearly gassed (but simply couldn't come out of the game) & K.e.n.t rotated in a fresh 5 players. You could tell Jimmal was worried. Dramatic stuff!1 point
