Excuses are for losers. It's time to put up or shut up. Everybody knows the process is rigged and if you don't, welcome to reality. Winners overcome the stacked odds. Columbus is the destination to start a new winning streak and stop this whining streak.5 points

I believe KD has been on record saying that those payday games are available, he is just too stubborn to take them.4 points

Beating OSU and hosting Florida? Heck of an opportunity here, even if it isn't the big prize.3 points

I wouldn't be surprised if this game gets moved to Northwestern...or the moon...but I don't expect it to be at the JAR. First things first, we have to beat OSWho. This is the opportunity we've been wanting. We need to play aggressive, but smart basketball and with the hustle and determination of having a big chip on our shoulder. If we go in feeling sorry for ourselves, the game is over before it starts. I love KD. I think he is the best coach for our program and future. However, he seriously lacks in motivating the players and fans for a game like this. Yes, it's not the ultimate goal of the NCAA's, but there are a ton of good teams available here for the taking that would not otherwise be on our OOC schedule. Take advantage of it! Prove that we are the better/best program left out of the NCAA and tell them after the fact that they made a mistake. There is no excuse for this pre-emptive woe-is-me stuff.2 points

Sucks to get your heart broken in the MAC finals again...by a 3-pointer, about exactly 3 steps in front of where Penno released his. Buffalo's a really good team. Great size in the post and on the perimeter. I can't imagine how dominant they'd have been had the kept Hurley and not lost two starters before the season opened. Their fan section was surprisingly sparse...they used to travel in pretty impressive numbers to The Q. The Corner Alley was the best place to host the Zips in a while. Good food, and plenty of space. Good beer selection. Antino was THE man. I don't care if he made a late-game miscue with the foul that erased the shot clock...the kid played an stone-cold awesome game. I look forward to that same bad-ass effort in Columbus Tuesday night. Big Dog, Reggie and Jake were warriors. The left it all on the court. Couldn't be prouder of their effort. Josh, Aaron and Jimmond gave some great bench minutes. Buffalo having 1 foul at the 3 minute mark of the 2nd half was pretty amazing. But ESPN has a bunch of games lined-up, and they don't want any early games running long. While not making the NCAA tourney sucks, I hope these guys realize they have an opportunity in front of them that only happens once every 25-or-so years: the chance to whip Ohio State's ass. This is a win that everyone in ZipsNation would savor for a lifetime. Dayton whooped 'em...now it's our turn.2 points

Just win the game. Another first round loss and everyone should just shut up. Tired of the crying.2 points

When is the last time a MAC team has beaten OSU? Also, we have a chance to singlehandedly prevent OSU from getting 21 wins this season. That would take our famous little stat down to 4 teams.2 points

+1 it's ridiculous to think teams are running away from Akron. If anything Akron is the one running away by not accepting guarantee games. You have to earn other programs respect before they will agree to come to your place.2 points

Sam Amico @AmicoHoops 6m6 minutes ago Sure wish one-bid leagues would end conference tourneys. Punishing teams that got it done all year in favor of one that got hot for 3 days.2 points

I don't know that blowing out 3 mediocre teams on your home floor qualifies you as "The Team." "The Team," in my mind, is Huffman, Shaw, Gates, Mitchell + a solid supporting cast. That's really the last MAC program that had a legit gripe if they were overlooked by the NCAA. If healthy, I think we could have won an NCAA game or 2. I agree 100% that the staff's "6th Man" idea backfired big time. We dug ourselves massive holes to begin each half, then spent the remainder of the time clawing back. Give me a dead-tired Big Dog over a sulking Kwan any day of the week. If asked, I'd guess that assistant coach would say the same thing. The Zips at the end of the season were a very good MAC team. So was Buffalo. They made a shot, and we didn't. I thought it was a great, compelling championship basketball game. A heartbreaker for me, but I got my money's worth.1 point

This was "the team" we had the last part of the season and "the team" that blew out Bowling Green, Ohio and Kent for the last 3 games. Watch the first 5 minutes of the second half and still tell me this was a great college game. The last 5 minutes were almost as bad when we kept turning the ball over. We did not play well and I will even quote our assistant coach, the better team did not win. Our guards could not penetrate and we had only one layup by Noah the entire game. We shot only 2 foul shots the entire game and that was in the first minute. I think KD would admit he should have started Big Dog in the second half. My only point is we should not complain about missing the big dance or even our seeding in the NIT since we made our own destiny.1 point

...and most importantly, the opportunity for a marquee win. And it builds composure such that we won't pee down our leg in the NCAAT. We will come prepared knowing what to expect and what we need to do to win.1 point

Jae'Sean Tate is out for the season with a shoulder injury. Buckeyes do not defend the 3 very well. But since we haven't been shooting that well from outside the last few games I'm not sure how much of a factor that will be. Marc Loving seems like he could be a handful for us.1 point

This year's Zips team is not "The Team." With a healthy Pat, playing like he did in 2014-15, and a healthy Aaron Jackson, it could have been something special. But in the end, this edition of Zips basketball gave 5-star effort, with 4-star talent (MAC scale). That wasn't enough to beat Buffalo on Saturday. I can't knock Noah's game. He played 37 minutes on a surgically reconstructed knee, on the 3rd night of 3-in-a-row, against talented guards that were tall and strong. Kwan had a terrible game. He forced his offense, and sulked when things didn't go his way. There's nothing more frustrating than watching mistakes get compounded by someone hanging their head after a bad pass, rather than hustling back and making a defensive play. I think Kwan needs to work on his mental approach more than his physical approach for next season. He takes himself out of games. And, I think KD needs to do a better job of recognizing when he's checked out. If you were an impartial observer at a bar watching UA/UB, you'd have said "Man, that was a great college basketball game." It was...we just lost it.1 point

Perhaps he has decided to change professions. If I remember correctly, Kofi majored in biology and had aspirations to go into the medical profession. Edit: I should add that I don't know. This is total supposition on my part.1 point

I agree that we played hard and gave it everything we had but I do not believe we had a good game. We were bad at boxing out and let Buffalo have to many offensive rebounds. We were unable to penetrate and forced to shoot jump shots off the dribble instead of off the pass. Noah had 2 points in 37 minutes and went 0 for 4 from 3 point land. Kwan went 2 for 10. We had the lead with 2 minutes to go and then gave the ball up on a crucial turnover, gave up an offensive rebound and committed a dumb foul that meant we would not have a chance to tie the game. In the tournament game we need to play our best game and it simply did not happen. We need to play better if we are going to win in Columbus. Go Zips!1 point

In determining what to wear to Cowlumbus I found three different "for Pete's Sake" tee shirts. I plan on wearing this year's version with the "Z" as a tribute to our loved coach Dan Peters. note: Thad Matta fired coach Peters to make room for his pal on the osu staff.1 point

To be honest, these developments may work out very well for our Zips. We probably lose by double digits in the NCAAs. Instead, we can potentially nab a nationally televised win against a crappy (and probably unmotivated) BigTen team in their own house. AND the possibility of a meaningful home game after that to watch! What is not to like about this scenario?1 point

We are better than them this year, but will likely lose the game only because of home court advantage. HC advantage means more in basketball than it does in any other sport. The selection committees know this. They purposely schedule the NIT so that the bigger school hosts. Their intent is to get rid off all of the smaller schools so that they can get better TV ratings and large crowds for the final four in Madison Square Garden. Its a rigged game. Non-BCS level FBS schools along with mid major basketball schools should just quit the NCAA altogether and start a new sanctioning body. We can have our own championships and tell the big boys to screw themselves.1 point
-
I hope we kick the crap out of them, then tell the NCAA and NIT they're #1. The game doesn't bother me. The fact that money rules the NCAA, therefore OSU automatically gets to host us. The 3/6 matchup is just a slap in the face to us, though. A 6 seed? Really?1 point

I love the fact that we get to play them. I hate the lack of respect that comes with that ridiculous seeding.1 point

It has always annoyed me that in theory a team could lose all it's regular season games as long as that team won all games in the tournament they are in the NCAA. In one bid leagues tournaments reward the deeper teams and that team that gets hot or just has a lucky draw of opponets. How about instead the NCAA field is expanded to 96 teams with 32 teams having a first round bye and get rid of the NIT? The regular season winner gets an automatic bid and if the regular season winner also wins the tournament they get a first round bye as an additional reward.1 point

Why continue to play in a conference when the leadership fails time after time to defend their own? MAC Commish has no backbone and until they get someone in leadership with balls nothing will change. Its a joke that in 2016 we are basically getting the HBCU Conference treatment.1 point

Then you'll never get consideration again for post season and pre season tourneys. You'll. Kill your basketball program. Great idea zip nation!!!1 point

Tulsa has wins over Wichita State, Iona, Connecticut, SMU, Temple, and Cincinnati. Akron has a win over Iona. I don't know why any of you got your hopes up. MAC competition simply isn't good enough for us to obtain an at-large unless we have a crazy great conference record. We also need to schedule and beat quality teams when we play them.1 point
-
I've been following this program for over 40 years. We should thank our lucky stars the we have KD as our head coach. Akron was a cesspool of college basketball for 20+ years before he came on the scene. Even the little bit of success we had in the Huggins era was an anomaly that defied the true sadness of D-1 basketball that we experienced. Anybody who thinks we should fire him needs their head examined.1 point
