  1. Some more tidbits; Mike Hughes is much more athletic than Pat Foresyth. He also has a bit of a mean streak. Noah Robothom is no longer wearing a knee brace. Emanuel Olajapoke has serious hops and a nice touch around the basket. If Big Dog is open from beyond the arc don't be surprised to see him take the shot.

  2. I've had zero qualms with our O-line this season. Replacing all 5 starters and being better is just remarkable. The coaches weren't kidding us about being more talented.

  3. I expect, no, I demand a more focused and committed side vs. Buffalo. At this point, MAC contests are the most important on our schedule.

  4. Wow. Think I might just pull back on my letting people know he attended Akron. How disappointing.

  6. Story on Van Edwards from the Fort Myers News Press. http://www.news-press.com/story/sports/college/football/2016/10/03/van-edwards-picking-up-steam-zips/91465988/ Thank God for the internet. We've got to rely on out of town news sources to read about our Akron players. Good grief.

  7. I think it only gets better as the kids visiting UA see so many athletes they recognize from their own region. I'd think your a lot more comfortable coming to UA from central Florida when you meet 25 other Florida kids on your recruiting trip. It also is nice for parents, because trips to Akron to see their sons play are typically inexpensive, non-stop 2-hour flights.

  8. I'll be in Lot 9. Stop over and I'll have a beer in the cooler for you. Look for a black F-150 with a Zips flag waving. Expecting a noon arrival in the lot.

  9. I have a feeling that just maybe, the defense is starting to find themselves. We gave up 17 points to Kent in the first half, and only 10 in the second half. That included a ridiculous 97 yard drive with less than 6 minutes left in the game. Miami to my knowledge does not have a Rankin on their team. With that said, I feel we hold Miami to the lowest points of the season. I am confident that regardless of Chapman or Woodson starting we can score 30+ on this team I think we rush in the 30-35 attempt range because we are getting very good bursts out of our running game. Akron 34 - Miami 16

  10. 1) Miami under 16 pts. - A struggling offence that now is going to start a true freshman. They only avg 52 rushing yards a game so I don't see the run helping them out. 2) Akron will win by 18 +. I think this is the hard one because we won't need to put up big pts in this game. I think we still will put some pts on the board while Miami wont. 3) Zips will rush 32+ times. We avg of 28 attempts a game, and with the reasons I have above, we will have a lead and drain the clock more than we have been.

  11. It's becoming pretty hard to argue with the success that coach Bowden's staff is having recruiting Florida.

  12. I am really proud of some of the stories of kids in our program and this Darius is now at the top of the list, for me. I love that JB1 and Justin March are our representatives in the NFL right now; they are 2 excellent young men. I also love the stories of second chance kids who have had turn-around, like Bowden describing TC5 on Saturday. You also look at the story of a kid like Tommy Woodson who was written off at no fault of his own in high school, struggled when he came here to find his footing, but persevered and was ready when his chance came. These are the kids I think of when I hear football haters complain about spending money on spirts. What other opportunity would give these young men the chance for this type of character growth or to overcome the type of odds against them to the degree that D1 football has, apart from military service?

  13. I have to say this... I'm never disappointed when we offer a scholarship to a guy who's not heavily recruited by other D-1A schools when they are someone of high character with a great work ethic. I'm proud to have those types of players to add to the integrity of our program. And if they happen to develop into a major contributor, that's simply a bonus.

  14. I'm more of a pregame restaurant/bar type of guy, but if you wander around the lot under the scoreboard you'll meet a lot of friendly Zips fans (many who post on this board). Just walk up & introduce yourself. They'll make you feel right at home. Zip Fest is outside the stadium to the west (press box side). It's fun to walk around there. Also, the team walks from the indoor field house to the stadium before the game. I've alway's thought I'd want to be there to wish them well, but I've never made it. I'm not even sure what time the walk is.

  15. It is! And that was a huge decision by Paul Haynes - especially considering we only needed to get into field goal range to possibly send it into overtime. I remember when K.e.nt short-kicked it. I was shocked. I was thinking, "It's not like we've got JoJo Natson back there returning kick offs." But then in watching the replay, man, Van Edwards was eating them up on returns! Paul Haynes definitely knew what he was doing. Van Edwards changed the game!

  16. That's what led to the short kickoff on the final drive. Edwards was just that dangerous.

  17. article on Perry Kitchen http://sbisoccer.com/2016/10/kitchen-williams-looking-to-lock-down-usmnt-central-midfield-spot Kitchen does the dirty work as a true defensive midfielder. At 24-years-old, he also has age on his side, while his recently awarded captaincy at Heart of Midlothian demonstrate his leadership qualities. With Kitchen, you know what you get: a rock-solid presence that has the maturity to lead when called upon.

  20. I sure hope so. Not only do they need an update, but I think the entire nation must be starting to believe that Akron's colors are Blue and Silver. That never made any sense to me at all.
