  1. Half way through the season and to me one of the biggest surprises and one of the reasons this team is playing so well is Kwan Cheatham Jr. I am going to eat crow because I had him pegged as a soft outside player who would never develop an inside game. A guy who loved to pick and pop out for the 3 ball or take fade away jump shots when he could not penetrate. However, this year he has proved me wrong. He has developed an inside game and muscled guys to the basket, has made some athletic drives to the basket, has made some short jump shots, has improved his 3 point shooting, made some unbelievable shots and played great defense with solid rebounding and some great blocks. Most importantly, he had done this every night, even against top ranked competition. Tonight he had 17 points and 13 rebounds. He made a great pass to Poke for a dunk. In many respects he is having an MVP season.

  2. KD and staff get frequent criticism for not developing players. Take a look at Kwan's substantial improvement in just about every statistical category for his senior season. Unreal! Keep it up KC!

  3. He's quit trying to bank-in 3-pointers. I like that improvement.

  4. A lot of teams outside of the MAC too.

  5. Indeed. And Glass house of course, I was unable to make the game last night as well. Side note: I am working on compiling data on MBB, Football, MSoccer and WBB for ZN.O, it's just been time consuming to do. Hopefully it'll help with future discussions on this forum over attendance, just so we have a reference point for which to discuss things

  6. Mug line was easily 100 deep at the start of the 2nd half, curling throughout the concession area. Only two people to hand out the mugs, and neither had a cutter to open the boxes. It was sort of a train wreck...but I got my mugs so I'm happy.

  8. BobCatAttack seems to be on melt down mode on not having the athletes that Akron does. Since OU last beat Akron in the MACC, Akron is 9-2 vs OU. Here is some interesting stats someone over there posted. 2012-'13: (0-3) 3 losses- 1st halves: Ohio +8pts. 2nd halves: Ohio -49pts. 2013-'14: (1-2) 2 losses- 1st halves: Ohio +4pts. 2nd halves: Ohio -13pts. 1 win- 1st half: Ohio +16pts. 2nd half: Ohio +/- 0pts. 2014-'15: (1-1) 1 loss- 1st half: Ohio -4pts. 2nd half: Ohio -8pts. 1 win- 1st half: Ohio -10pts. 2nd half: Ohio +11pts. 2015-'16: (0-2) 1st halves: Ohio -12pts. 2nd halves: Ohio -15pts. 2016-'17: (0-1) 1st half: Ohio -3pts. 2nd half: Ohio -12pts.

  9. That's become a Zips tradition.

  10. This might be why I get tired of hearing excuses. The design of the Arena didn't suddenly change right before last night's game. We've had many, many crowds with great energy, who created a great atmosphere in the 35 years that the JAR has been configured just as it is today.

  11. They are imploding because the coach has allowed them to turn into a showcase for Hall's chances of playing in the NBA. There is no "team" over there.

  12. He's turning into what we all thought he could be a year or two ago. He's almost unguardable in MAC play now, especially when his shot is falling. How can you defend a 6'10" guy that can bang 3s, drive it and play a post game?

  13. I have to throw this in there.... An Official who's whistle-happy to call a Technical on a guy who dunks, and stares for A BRIEF SECOND at the opponent who's standing under the basket before turning and running back up the court, has no place in college basketball. Those kinds of officials will ruin college basketball.

  15. This is somewhat off topic but I'm going to post it anyways.I think Coach Mounds does a great job. He came in after Buckley left for Louisville (and took some recruits with him). Now we're going up against multiple P5 schools with a real chance to land a player. DBs have not been a concern the past few years and do not appear to be a concern anytime soon with the flashes the young talent has shown.

  16. Not sure I understand the concern with Noah. We have scorers. Tonight he had 4 assists to 1 TO, shot 2/4 for 6 points and played good defense. A PG who can control a game like he does, keep his cool and let others score is valuable.

  17. Nice win. A lot of good came out of that game. It looks like the team is really starting to come together. Some random thoughts. I'm still concerned about Noah and Josh. They seem to be regressing. Same for Aaron Jackson. On the other hand, Ivey, Utomi and Poke seem to be coming into their own. The spark Utomi brings is going to make them find minutes for him. The ball was in Antino's hands a little more tonight which is something I've been hoping for. Dog seems a little tired which I am sure has some correlation to Mike Hughes' injury.

  18. Kwan is eating him up. He is really taking his game to another level. The bounce he has in his legs is making the difference. Dog is carving up OU in the 2nd half.

  19. Maybe he's not on the list since he is probably a gray shirt. According to this article: "Stewart, who played his senior year of football at Bethlehem Catholic and will head to Akron in the fall turned in a monster game with seven receptions for 269 yards and three touchdowns"

  20. TDM has some sort of eye infection. According to Dambrot he is pretty much playing with vision in 1 eye. Hughes is having some sort of back trouble. From the sounds of it, it isn't anything severe. It is just a discomfort that is impacting his mobility and play.

  21. Odds are looking pretty good OSU finds their way into the NIT. I'm praying and hoping the Zips don't join them. As fun as it was to play them last year, despite the sloppy play on both sides, I have my eyes set on a bigger prize.
