  1. My take on it is - If you're a "real" Zips fan, or a Bulls fan, you aren't a bandwagon guy. Something happened that hooked you on following the school's athletic programs. For this kid, it was taking a flier on a bus trip to Akron. For you, maybe it was an Acme Zip game or an OVC Championship. At schools like OU and Miami...I'll even throw Kent in there...there's tradition. Alumni come back in decent numbers for homecoming. That doesn't happen at Buffalo or Akron. You need to be a do-it-yourselfer. It's either that, or, sit in your dorm room and follow your "state" school. There's as much fun available as you want to experience being a student at Akron or Buffalo. You just need to get your ass of the couch, get away from the TV or computer, and find it. Unfortunately, not a whole lot of people are motivated to do that anymore. Or, in the past (reference the tumbleweeds rolling through the Rubber Bowl during any other football game than the Acme Zip Game). There are more kids out there like this one. But someone needs to work to find them. Show them a good time and they'll multiply. Unfortunately, every 4-5 years you get a new plan, a new administration...and any headway gets erased as the new crew implements their plan. Lather, rinse, repeat.

  2. All I care about is if he can give us some carries that live up to the lofty virtues that so many people here have bestowed upon him over the last two years, and some of what he showed us in some of the limited carries he had last year. I'm also a little bit disheartened that some people talk about Manny and Van like they are discarded garbage that should be relegated to the bottom of the heap. These guys have done some good things for us, have the game experience, and may need to be counted on again for us to win games.

  3. "I was going to do a quick write up on it yesterday, but I was busy with the women’s shootyhoops power rankings. I was confident that the story would receive the attention that it deserved elsewhere. It didn’t." He's looking at you, Akron Beacon Journal.

  4. I think Suggs is going to be a good one but he needs to redshirt, he is 170 lbs, let him dedicate a year to changing his body & then let him loose

  5. For the record: I never said that Van Edwards or Manny Morgan or DJ Jones are discarded garbage. In fact, I've always been a Van Edwards and DJ Jones and Manny Morgan fan. But the fact that there was an effort to bring in not one, but two transfer RBs from P5 programs over the last two years, means that they weren't doing enough in coaches eyes to garner the starting role. Why would scholarships be spent on a position of strength if you didn't need the upgrade? Morgan and Edwards, go ahead and prove me wrong. Please. It'll make the Zips better for it.

  6. Honest to God they have to be nearing 35. I thought they were seniors and in charge of the Rowdies in the fall of 2007 when I joined. And they're still there

  8. He seems to make good decisions with the ball. Interested to see what kind of opportunity he gets.

  10. Not that I disagree, but its hard to be in sync when you are separated and can't see the people leading chants.

  11. My number one problem with the Rowdies is their total lack of rhythm and timing. Every time they eff up the Let's Go Zips chant by stomping too soon pisses me off. It's not that hard. 1-2-3-4. 1-2-3-4. Lets-Go-Zips-Stomp.

  12. So many good ex-girlfriend comments to make. I'll resist and say we need every passionate student we can get.

  13. I can live with a game here or there getting flexed, but I'm wanting to say we've had 5 home conference games altered. Three Saturday games moved to Friday and 2 Tuesday games played before the normal 7PM time slot. I wish there was some sort of cap. I see other MAC schools are able to get home Saturday games on national TV. Why do we get the short end of the stick?

  16. You have got to be kidding me. Give me a ho-hum undefeated season with 20-point margins, a boring waltz through the MAC tournament, and 2 or 3 snoozer wins in the NCAA. Now that would attract some new fans. And get us ranked. And plenty of media exposure. And some great recruits. Maybe even some athletics department donations.

  17. nice article from the Philadelphia Daily news http://www.philly.com/philly/blogs/thegoalkeeper/Union-sign-midfielder-Adam-Najem-from-New-York-Red-Bulls-academy.html "He's an intelligent, humble, quiet kid, but when he gets on the field, I would say he makes a lot of noise, especially around the goal," Union manager Jim Curtin said. "He's a guy who can play a final pass, scores a lot of goals in practice, scored a lot of goals in college as well. He has that skill set that you can't always teach or coach - some guys just have a knack around the goal." "I'm not a guy who cares too much about size," Curtin said. "I'm more concerned with a guy who sees the game a little different. He sees it one and two passes ahead, so he sees where the next ball should go at all times [and] is aware in tight spaces."
