  1. Kent still sucks. If you know it's true raise your right hand.

  2. But only against Top-tier MAC programs. If you suck (suck = bottom 75% of the MAC in the previous season) you don't get to play UConn. Top 2 teams get the home game. UConn is 12-12 this year. It's not "slumming" for them to travel to 22-4 Akron for a game.

  3. Should have known it would be Marla that wrote it. She does great work when she writes Zips stories.

  4. There was some buzz on twitter last night (if I have time I'll try to find some links to post) about UConn wanting to join the Big East in basketball. Apparently the American Athletic Conference wouldn't allow UConn to be a football-only member, but the MAC is considering. This is all preliminary right now & there might not be anything at all to the rumor. But what would you guys think? We tried this once before with UMass and the result was not good. Would UConn be a big enough name to stoop to allowing them football-only status?

  5. My apologies if this piece from the NCAA has already been posted. Nicely done, btw http://www.ncaa.com/news/basketball-men/article/2017-02-15/college-basketball-look-teams-dominating-their-conferences Akron mentioned a couple of times ... including this: "Here’s to Akron, 22-4, and 12-1 in the MAC. The Zips don’t draw nearly enough regard for their decade-spanning consistency, with 21-plus wins coming off the assembly line every year and appearances in eight of the past 10 MAC championship games. “The people who are around basketball, they know,” coach Keith Dambrot said over the phone Wednesday. “I think the media, the fans, they probably don’t know. Even our own people. It’s hard to do what we’ve done.”

  7. Not trying to defend the troll, but schools make more by playing cupcakes at home as opposed to agreeing to a home and home with other schools. You see a lot of guaranteed games on a lot of P5 team schedules.

  11. You guys must not travel for road games then. BG is a great roady. Not really sure why BG would be a snore for any Zips fan. They have beaten us 8 in a row.

  12. Not B&G's fault. I made up the TTTTE reference (if you notice I've tried to make at least a mildly denigrating reference to every opponent in the Zips Quiz this year). And for Kent it needed something extra and I liked that it sort of sounded like titty. Sometimes I am still the 12 year old boy. And maybe I've been spending to much time on the board because I was texting about the game and somehow expected my text message to change their name. (and that doesn't even happen on the board any more).

  14. Bring in UConn football. But every season, the previous year's MAC Men's Basketball Champ gets a home game with UConn. I'd be for it. Maybe Army football would then consider joining, or bring back UMass to make things numerically even.

  17. I was also curious why college basketball did not use quarters and found these answers on the internet: James Naismith's original rules of basketball provided for halves instead of quarters. (15 minute halfs) Colleges began playing under that rule. The pros went to quarters to make the game longer so people would feel like they got their moneys worth for paying to watch a game. According to the NCAA record book, college basketball used four 10-minute quarters for three seasons: 1951-52, 52-53, 53-54. and then switched back.

  18. I really hope this is the game where we break one open. A full volume, packed house, crazy JAR in a rout would be a nice memory to stamp into Jimmy Hall's head.

  24. Interesting comment by Todd Kowlacyzk at the end of the article. Kowalczyk also gave Johnson, who finished with 18 points and seven rebounds, credit. “He’s going to be player of the year in our league for a reason,” Kowalczyk said. So at least one coach values overall performance and team contribution. I think it is entirely possible we could have two All-MAC first teamers.

  25. Was it last year or the year before that there were folks on ZNO blasting the RPI rankings and saying how big of a joke the RPI is and to follow the Kenpom because it is a better formula and makes so much more sense? To me they all suck - Kenpom, RPI & Bracketology. The so called experts have no clue. They aren't watching these teams. My formula is simple..... Play a tougher OCC & win some games, win the MAC tournament, win a couple of games in the NCAA tourney and earn your own respect. Quit relying on some stupid spreadsheet!
