  1. Wesley Christians head coach Dave Meddings was an assistant at Huntington Prep under Rob. He's building a national powerhouse program there and that will be a great connection to have for Akron.

  2. 2017 Keith Clemons will visit Akron on Monday. Top available point guard averaged 16.9 ppg for Wesley Christian. @ZipsMBB @keithclemonss Coach Fulford paying dividends already. This kid is an underrated point guard who played at Wesley against top tier national school talent.

  3. It's kind of like we're recruiting players that other teams also want. It's fun to follow

  4. What's really important Saturday is what's on grills and in coolers. I have not decided what I am going to cook for lunch, but I am making breakfast grilled cheese for the early morning. I am bringing a case of my favorite IPA, Lagunitas Waldos'. I am not sure what ZG01 will be cooking (always good), but he is bringing some home brew. Just one sip is worth the trip! What are the rest of you planning? Is anyone going to bring those kangaroo shaped cookies?

  5. A couple more... Left tackle Trevor Brown, and others provide Kato with protection from a blitzing Shawn Featherstone. The defense gets set as Kato gets to the line. The team run many first and goal at the ten situations.

  7. Complaining about KD supposedly not letting Big Dog shoot 3s is one of the silliest stances I have seen on this forum.

  8. Dambrot called his number to shoot that 17 foot game winner against Ball State. Big Dog just wasn't looking to shoot the 3, nor should have he. Outside of Karnowski he was bigger than anyone he faced. Settling for 20 footers would have just done the opposing defense a favor. Edit: In a glorified scrimmage I can see why he would want to shoot the 3 to show scouts he has the ability. Big Dog was always a team player and I assume he didn't shoot them was because he felt that wasn't what Akron needed out of its only legitimate post player.

  9. I mean... Didn't you do the same thing there? Listen, I was wrong to bash Dials based on what I've heard instead of my personal experience. I will always hold my opinions, but saying what I did didn't contribute to the conversation. That's why I've owned that mistake. I think we both bring good insight and that we're better than my comments on Dials and yours on Dambrot's staff. At this point, if you'd like to discuss further, feel free to message me, but I'm done discussing it here. Let's get back to constructive debate.

  10. Then based on K92's original estimate, you will officially double the Beacon Journal's coverage over the last 3 years.

  11. The Duquesne visit would have been before Dambrot.

  12. In retrospect, Charleston and Notre Dame are comparable sides. Both are direct and physical. Zips could/should have scored more. Akron 1-0 Charleston

  14. 1) Your post is factually incorrect as there were not "thousands" of people who did not use their ticket. Exactly 1,857 people didn't use their ticket. 2) It's odd that somebody who dislikes OSU as much as you spends time reading their sites. 3) NOBODY CARES.

  15. Sounds like baseless, personal bad blood... He run around with your girlfriend back in the day or something? Having experience working with all Zips staff (not to mention other schools across the country) over the past 15 years or so, he by far was the best one to work with and most positive and down to earth... I will always push my kids to have him (a few other coaches as well) at the top of their lists.

  16. I didn't intend it to, although I concede I didn't make him sound favorable. I don't want Dials here and have my reasons, but I also respect he's a man trying to build a career to support his family. He's also a former Zip, of course, so you won't hear any more from me on him.

  17. I will say that one thing I don't miss since moving out of state is the pathetic ABJ. Swensons on the other hand...........First place I go when I come home.

  18. THANK YOU CK & Dr. Z! Excellent work! As someone dependent upon the Beacon Journal for Zips coverage, your light shines in the darkness!!!

  19. Bravo to CK and Dr. Z. You just posted about 3 years worth of BJ reporting in one thread. Thank you.

  20. No, I get your point. I agree KD shouldn't be poaching UA players. My point is that the whole scholarship obligation thing is a two way street. On another topic, let's say KD didn't initiate the contact. He has an awful team he needs to rebuild, knows and likes a kid, and the kid is calling. Should he hang up the phone?

  21. Great stuff fellas. Thank you. Looked like Johns and Kato beat Dailey for TDs...hmm. George being moved to CB is interesting to me as I've always thought of him as a tweener LB/SS rather than a CB. I hope it works out though as he is a player that should be on the field.
