  1. Speaking of which, is it counterproductive to get paid by PSU only to turn around and pay UAPB?

  4. 01, apparently, you won't be satisfied with anything short of a national championship; so why don't you spare us with your negativity? Just get your news from the BJ. Then, you won't have to read anything about the Zips!

  5. It's been a hectic Labor Day weekend. Here is the belated write up on the Zips/Nittany Lions game. Thanks to Dr. Z for taking the time on his holiday weekend to create the layout. Akron - Penn State

  6. You probably already know this, but we play both Nebraska and Northwestern next year. I like the Northwestern game even though they are good again like the mid-nineties, just because i've heard some of their fans say their athletic department would never schedule Akron in football (I guess that meant they would hold their elitist noses to schedule a soccer match, but only in Evanston).

  7. Just got off a phone appeal with an office in Utah. The guy was laughing at the Akron game. Yep, this one reached all the way across the Country. I think some of you are getting it right in that we should only schedule games with teams that traditionally fall outside of the top 25. If we are good enough at the end of the season, maybe we go to good paying bowl and play a competitive game with a top 25 team. Our home opponent targets should be teams that are likely to bring fans, like Iowa State, Marshall, or an FCS team that might fill seats (wish we could get Tressell to force Y-towns AD to cave on their home and home requirement).

  8. These are all perfect and what we should shoot for. Take your payday but give yourself a puncher's chance at the least.

  12. Sure there is, Skip. Don't schedule a FCS team.

  13. Yes. If your state of affairs makes it necessary to whore yourself out for a paycheck to make ends meet, it would stand to reason that you can't afford to pay for an opponent to come to your place. Now, it makes sense for a power school to pay out for another home game when they can fill a large stadium. It is spending money to make money. It makes no sense for Akron to pay out for a home game because they can put 9100 fans in the seats. It is spending money to lose money.

  14. My understanding....the NSCAA poll no longer exists. It has been replaced by the United Soccer coaches poll. Akron was #24 last week based on UA having played one game against Utah Valley.(they dropped from 16 in the initial ranking to 24) The poll comes out Tuesday around noon. However, it does not include games played on Monday of the same week. So, Akron's rating this week factors in their loss at Denver and the win over Washington. Ranking is also impacted by Utah Valley losing their 2nd game to Cal State Northridge and Denver losing their next game at home to Furman.

  15. Not enough good plays come to mind from Saturday, but there were a few. Obviously, Guiser's interception. Reinke's 4th down tackle on Barkley. Warren had some nice runs up the middle, I wish the play calling would have had more of that. PSU defenders were too quick when the Zips tried running anything outside. Kato showed some nice moves on a run up the middle. I've said this before, but if you are at the game watching the Akron defense, take a series or two and watch Alvin Davis, he amazes me at 165 pounds. He had two open field tackles on Barkley and Gesicki that were awesome. I'm not sure they showed this on tv or not because it was away from the play late. Gesicki lined up and the slot, and Alvin come up and played press cover on him. At the snap of the ball Alvin attacked him and got his hands inside his numbers and wrestled him for five yards up the field. Gesicki and Alvin talked at the end of the game at midfield, I wish I could have heard the conversation. Gesicki walked away from the conversation laughing. I was surprised how much time Denzel Butler played, I guess coach wasn't kidding when he said he had a good summer. PSU was as advertised. McSorley, Barkley, Gesicki were awesome, I'll be interested to see how upper teams defend them throughout the year. Time to get up off the mat, and come out swingin this Saturday!

  16. The delay in play calling is just another thing that annoys me with our Offensive Coordinator. We need to make a change already. The last time our offense looked good on a consistent basis, for more than one or two random games, was when Bowden was handling the play calling.

  17. I thought TW's behavior was detrimental to the team. The QB position on almost every team is the leader and in a leader you want them to be emotionally steady, not one who is up or down because of adversity. or good fortune. As a senior, where's the maturity? His ranting, shown often on TV, was not the actions of a mature leader. The offense is keying on the QB to lead them no matter the situation. I'm just a fan, not someone who has an inside line on team goings on. I'm definitely looking forward to this season and hoping for an improved team free from numerous injuries. I do keep up on team discussion here for both FB and BB. Thanks to all who contribute and I really enjoy the different viewpoints.

  20. No. Scheduling has not been the primary problem, but there is a primary problem that needs addressed. It is the elephant in the room no one wants to touch with a 39 and a half foot pole.
