With all due respect, people used to want to come to this country for the opportunity to achieve, now they come for the opportunity for a handout.2 points

I can only speak from personal experience. Local council people do not represent my behavior or beliefs. I simply do not see this type of behavior in Akron. I was told by my Black Drill Instructor that we are all the same color- we're just light green and dark green. My best friend in boot camp was Black. My best friends throughout the Marine Corps were both second generation American Mexican. Its offensive when you tell me the people in Akron are racist. Simply offensive. You would never be unwelcome in my home.2 points

I am an African American I now live in the DC area moving here from Akron in 2008. I am a federal contractor and my father is a vet. I was also at the Raiders/Redskins game last night and I attend many Skins games on a regular. (Browns Fan though) With that been said I am all for "any" player choosing to take a knee during the National Anthem as its their constitutional right to do so. A professional league that is 70% Black many players believe that as a nation we are not collectively living up to the meaning of the Flag and Anthem and as a result they are using that platform to express their conflicted opinion on the matter. A platform the NFL and other Pro Sports Leagues have been financially capitalizing off of. Between 2012-2015 DoD paid $53 million of taxpayers' money to pro sports for military tributes in regards to marketing and advertising contracts with professional sports organizations. More than $10 million of that went to the NFL, MLB, NHL, NBA and Major League Soccer. I have no problem with what Alejandro Villanueva did yesterday because that was his constitutional right. I actually admire what he did. Overall there is an on going problem in America in regards to a lack of equality for everyone especially when it comes to minorities. "One Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all." And im sad to say this is the very reason why I Left Akron. Originally from South Carolina I can honestly say I have personally experienced more racism up north than I have down south. I am a believer that you are more than likely to experience racism and inequality in areas where the Wealth Gap is wide. I graduated from Akron in 2006. Remained and worked for a top company in the area. Countless times for example i went out after work with my coworkers around Akron and Fairlawn who were predominately white and even though I was dressed professionally enough for my employer it wasn't enough for many establishments who profiled me because to them I fit the description of the Black Man who posed a threat. I basically had to look like Tiger Woods without a golf club to get accepted into establishments. I eventually got tired of it and left. I now work on Capitol Hill. Social Injustice may not be a problem to you but at least acknowledge that there is a problem and respect those who use their platforms to make it known. Now I will say this. In regards to the NFL Players and Colin Kaepernick defenders who have been calling for a boycott of the NFL. Speaking for myself don't expect me to give a damn until the Colin's former coworkers collectively give a damn. NFLPA is an absolute joke. The Kaepernick situation is not racial in my eyes. The NFL does not have a racial problem they have an image problem and it stems from the Owners having too much power and the NFLPA has no one to blame but themselves as they have the worst Collective Bargaining Agreement in professional sports. They sat the face of the league down for deflated balls for Christ sake an the league didn't miss a beat. Thats power.2 points

https://sports.yahoo.com/fbi-probe-uncovers-massive-college-basketball-scandal-snaring-big-time-programs-144631716.html It's days like this I appreciate guys like Coach Dambrot and Coach Groce who run clean programs. Wonder if any MAC schools will get caught up in this...1 point

The 11 ZN members (LZIp, zippy5, Zipmlady, skip-zip, UAZippers, zipsrule, Blue & Gold, ZipsBurgh, akzipper, and scottditzen) that picked Woodson are on the path to being correct. 4-0 so far. With Nick Johns moving to WR/TE and playing special teams, I would guess he is out of the running. Hopefully his foot has healed from being cut on a piece of glass, and he gets back into action this week.1 point

Hope you guys are watching on Thursday night as we host Texas in the Big 12 imitation of MAC-tion. Seriously, we have had some fun games on weeknights. In 2013, the refs took the Texas game away from us after calling a play back when we stripped the ball at the goal line and were heading for a TD with no whistles blowing until very, very, very late. In 2011, we ended the BCS era by knocking Oklahoma State out of the national championship game and putting Alabama in by a statistical thread (but try to get a Tide fan to admit it, never happen). In 2015, though not on a weeknight, it was Halloween and we shut out the Smallhorns. The crowd was going nuts as Texas desperately tried to score at the end . . . and failed. We won't have a sellout because of Thursday night, but we will still have 55k fans (providing further proof that there isn't much to do in Iowa ). And Thursday night games are killers for tailgating. Hope your game next season gets scheduled for a Saturday afternoon or evening, so you can maximize your experience in Ames.1 point

Dr Z - I appreciate your photography and enjoy it, you are amazing. I can't begin to discuss exposure and all the things you brought up. I know what I saw on TV and it was sad to me, which is why I posted the video. Personally, I don't find standing in the tunnel with your teammate outside the tunnel by himself as supporting him. I didn't watch any more NFL from there. Also, sorry for posting this on the 9100 attendance chain, and sorry for the long winded post BUT all of this is really pissing me off. I can't even chill out and watch the game I love without a f***ing protest. Honestly, I respect the right to protest but I don't think these guys even know what they are protesting. Racial inequality? Anti-United States, Anti-Trump, Anti-Police, Pro-F Castro or did this just start from a guy who lost his starting job as QB for the 49ers and tried to revive his career. Very ill-conceived in my opinion. Hey - now I know why this belongs on the 9100 attendance thread......because if people protest the NFL, maybe Zips attendance will go up ;-)1 point

If true, this is disappointing he feels like he let his teammates down. He did 2 or 3 tours in Afghanistan. He has the right to express his beliefs as well. It doesn't go just one way. As a Marine with one tour in Iraq, I feel I'd have done the same even if none of my coworkers decided to participate. They have no idea what he's been through as a Veteran.1 point

Assuming people should honor something that doesn't respect you especially after a large group of people who appose you recently got together in Charlottesville rallying behind another flag that represents the ultimate opposition of the American Flag and our President not Directly condemn them but rather come out and make a stronger statement about professional athletes taking a knee during the anthem ceremony DoD pays the NFL Millions to have says a lot.1 point

Around my peers I am a think outside the box type of guy in regards to always listening and respecting both sides of and argument/opinion. One of the best courses I took at Akron was - Sociology In Organizations which for example taught me to instead of writing individuals and groups off in regards to their hatred or disagreement of me Try to find out why they feel that way. On occasions when I asked people why? They can't give me an answer because they don't know themselves and are rather following a cultural trend. Regardless of what I have personally experienced I try not to stereotype. I can easily say I "do not" stereotype but I am not perfect. I have my flaws too and I try to grow from them daily. I try not to judge a person based on their Politics, Religion and Sexuality. In regards to the waitress her actions was racially motivated as there were other things she did that lead up to her throwing a quarter at me basically treating me like I didn't belong there. This happened back in 2008 and this is the first time I have openly discussed this with anyone else excluding my friends who were there. A friend of mine has been critical of NFL owners donating to Trump's campaign. I told him I don't knock owners for donating because I don't knock owners for supporting their political party. I told him all Republicans are not racist and all people who voted for Trump are not racist. Thats the fact I believe too many people are missing and it goes both ways in regards to the Left & Right. I believe there is too much characterizing and labeling of one another these days. I personally hate Extreme Anything and thats the main problem today in regards to the lack of respect both sides have today in Politics, Religion and social issues in general. In a perfect world if we all could sit at a table and have a conversation we would have a better understanding of one another because in general its unjust to speak on what someone else is going through looking from the outside in. You rather get better insight by asking whoever directly. I rather be asked a question about me, my race and my culture vs someone settling for a blind assumption of me.1 point

You mean the same year we lost to BGSU by a score of 59-10? IMO we've never looked like we were one of the best teams in the MAC. We've literally only beaten 1 MAC team with a winning record in Bowden's 5 seasons here. EMU has much worst facilities than we do, they have a smaller fan base, and just as bad of a history. We're well on our way to missing 5 postseasons in 6 years. This isn't a Dambrot situation where the team has been successful but people are wanting more. The Zips have solidly been in the bottom half of the MAC under Bowden. A coaching change is a no brainer1 point

Im sorry but that is false. Everyone doesn't have an "equal" opportunity to succeed in America especially minorities.1 point

Around Akron in general I was treated differently. Yes I was often denied entry into bars or restaurants when I was the best dressed out of the group of people (Predominately white) I was with. When I reference Tiger Woods I am saying I basically had to have slacks and dress shoes on while my white friends gained acceptance into these establishments with flip flops on. Even at times when I came back to Akron to visit It wasn't until I flashed my government badge that the perception of me in these establishments changed. A waitress in Gasoline Alley located in Bath Township once threw a quarter at me because she assumed I shorted her on a tip when I was just trying to pay and tip her with a credit card while my friends at the table paid with cash. I have moved over 20 times in my life living in different states and communities as my family worked in Military and Law Enforcement. My sample size is large. Don't get me wrong, I am definitely not saying ONLY Blacks are being treated unfairly. I am just vouching for my personal experience.1 point

Yeah, I introduced myself to you actually (my name is Al). I had a red t-shirt with leaning Cy on it and a ball cap with the old tornado logo. I'm about 6'1 230ish with brown hair. My buddy Pat was a little shorter and heavier set than me. He had a houndstooth I-State hat on. I guess I didn't say my screen name. We got there around 8 and Pat helped you on the grill while I helped your Akron connections prep the sandwiches some. You gave me a glass of Cyclone OJ (which was delicious). We stocked one of your beer cooler tubs with our case of Yuengling. We talked with Jeff Johnson quite a bit under that shade tree. We were at your tailgate for a good 3 hours, I'd say. Great time and greatly appreciated your efforts. We waved passing the U-Haul on Sunday AM, but I don't think you saw us.1 point

I think Skippy is close, but a little lower than my guess. I say more like 7,500 Zip fans, including our band, I think he's spot on with the ISU numbers and I think the casual visitors were in the 2,500 range.....my total guess, IMHO is 11,000.1 point

Yes his "excuse" was the hurricane, but it had nothing to do with the airport opened. He was spending time working with his foundation to help the people needing it in the Miami area after the hurricane hit. And what the heck does legal issues have to do with this? The way this University treated his entire Hall of Fame induction was a complete joke. This University should be ashamed that they did not provide opportunities for fans and alumni to make a presence in Canton for the induction ceremonies and festivities. How hard would it have been to put together a couple of bus excursions including tickets to the event for The Faithful to fill? They can put a bus trip together for a football road game, or a basketball road game. Or how about a Meet and Greet for the regular Joe Akron to attend? He paid a lot of tribute to the U during his speech and during every interview he gave. Big effing wow...we hosted his post party, but was any of the fans and lesser people in the hierarchy allowed to attend? Cykron is right, no one seemed to give a crap, because it was obvious that Akron didn't give a crap, and that what U of A did to hype the day, hype the HOF, was just perfunctory and it's a crying shame. And why the heck do people have to bring up his divorce, "legal issues", etc. Why the hate for a player that sure makes U of A lot better than it deserves some times.1 point

Ok, I will take your Morning Quiz. So, here's my guesses. It was really hard to tell because the crowd was scattered around much more than a normal home game. There were no sections that actually looked filled in. Very strange. 5,000 - Zips Fans 2,000 - ISU Fans (your band helped boost that number). But we appreciated the number of people who made that long trip. Those are some dedicated fans. 1,000 - Woke up that morning and put on some other shirt color and wandered to Infocision for something to do. (This number includes those who wear all of their Suckeye gear to a Zips game because they insist "It's GameDay for Ohio's school that really matters") Total - 8,0001 point
