This is a reality check on where the zips program is. We are a joke. Thank you Bowden for beating the 1-10's of the country. This guy can't get fired fast enough.3 points

back to the topic: I'm going to find myself rooting for Can't today to put everyone at 2 L' s except for us.3 points

Ya'll need to chill out. Was there one person on this forum from begining of season till now that expected to win this game. You old men just need to sit down. Please. Sit down.2 points

You may be right. Perhaps a combination of both The “progrum” has gone from suck to below average under Bowden. This is as good as it gets with him.2 points

Nah. I think it’s so we can rack up some garbage time stats for the apologists.2 points

I've been watching Zips football for too many years like this. I think maybe those commercials advising me to call the addiction Network might be good timing ?2 points

After that first season maybe Amato had a heart-to-heart w/ Terry & told him the hyper-hurry-up-throw-it-all-over-the-field offense (which I loved & which was a lot of fun to watch) didn't give his defense enough time to rest? Maybe to go back to that style offense would require more defensive depth?2 points

Don't scare me like that. From your title I assumed that meant three players had been suspended or injured and I opened the article to see the names of Gilbert Woodson and Brown.2 points

Who cares if we are winning games!?! Isn't that the ultimate goal here!?! We don't have the personnel currently to have some Toledo-like offense you and your buddy are dreaming of. To think otherwise is idiotic. ive used factual data to show Millwee can have the "MACtion" offense with the right personnel, but it's been conveniently ignored multiple times now. bitching just to bitch is all this is.2 points

I'm just hoping they put the hippity hop ball races and unwinnable Pizza Fire three point shooting contests up on the Zippytron!2 points

Isn't this the point when someone notes that Kent is leading Ohio and that we are in the driver's seat in the MAC East? And that we were supposed to lose this game and are only two wins away from a berth in the Artichoke Bowl?1 point

You know, we may not be the most talented team in the Mac, but I like our fight. Guys play hard.1 point

Looks like we have scrimmages lined up with Detroit and Canisius. One of only 2 MAC programs with 2 scrimmages.1 point

My dad botched names like TB does and so I have always found it amusing when TB did it.1 point

I was at that game last night. Good game. Buchtel really did a good job selling out to stop the run & force East to beat them by passing the ball. A Buchtel junior who really stood out to me was WR Zayir Keen. Zayir is 6'2", fast & has great hands. He's pretty thin though, at only 170.1 point

So glad there's a new video board. I recall all those times (0) that I said a new video board was needed to keep my interest in Zips Mens Basketball and to put new butts in the seats. It's nice, but really. Close beside Cuyahoga’s waters, Stream of amber hue, O’er old Buchtel Summit’s glory, Waves the gold and blue. Hail we video board! Sound her praises, Speed them on the gale, Ever stand our new video board, Akron hail, all hail!1 point

I know I'm one of the less grumpier folks on this board; but I'm pretty excited at the thought of Ramart/Kato throwing to MTB/Stewart/Williams/McGriff/Kwad/Hooks/Booker next season or one of them handing it off to Sands/Suggs/White behind our seasoned O-Line. We seem to have some weapons coming up. Nobody can deny that we are lacking them this season. Yes somebody is to blame for that. Is the blame big enough for them to be fired even if the Zips quite possibly have their 3rd best or better season this year? I suppose time will tell.1 point

So your main complaint is that you don't find it fun to watch? I was hoping for a better breakdown, Keener. Did you miss the part of my post where I stated what the offense did during the 2016 OOC when we had an actual solid MAC QB throwing to solid MAC WRs? Would you prefer the Zips of now or the Zips of 2012? I enjoy watching a winning program.1 point

Iv'e watched enough football in my life to know that no matter how awesome a team's offense looks, there is always a defense to make them look pedestrian. Let's hope that's what happens to Toledo's offense Saturday. No backup, I want to beat Woodside. I want to see him go against our secondary. Talent vs talent. I'm sure the Zips secondary is pumped to face him.1 point

I think our defense can keep us competitive, it's our offensive side of the ball that worries me. However, here is how I think we could win: The basics - minimize penalties, no more than 1 turn-over, and special teams - do not allow any big returns. The have blocked one more kick than us and also a punt this year. Field position - we were killed by the poor field position in the 2nd half last week. We need to be able to flip the field, more frequently. Pressure on the QB - we have not really done a ton of LB blitzes - we might need to do more. We won't shut Woodside down, but we can limit his success. Toledo's rushing offense is ranked #36 in FBS, however, they are not a top 50 red zone offense team. We will also have to stop the run. We proved we can do that against WMU, but the WMU passing threat was not nearly as great. Toledo boasts a 28th ranked passing offense and Woodside is solid. Secondary - don't give up big plays. I think interceptions will be harder to come by, but we need our secondary to play their best. I think they might be up to the task. We have a slight edge on defensive touchdowns, statistically. Offensively - we need a our WRs to step up their game. We have to move the ball, better and a lot of that. We need to be successful with our run game to help the pass game. I think we can run the ball on them as well as we ran the ball on WMU in the first half. Tommy's passes were a lot better last week, but he did not throw a lot in the second half. we had too many drops. We have to make catches to win games. Coney has proven to be consistent. I am guessing that every D is focusing on Wolfe. We really need Bickley, Chapman, Smith, and Young to step it up. Booker is starting to present some nice opportunities for us. At his size, it would be nice to see him evolve into our 3rd/4th and 1 back like Cody Grice. Third Downs - we have the edge offensively and they have the edge defensively. On offensive, we are ranked #36 and they are ranked #50, On D they are #26 and we are #34. The match-ups are pretty good. Trickery - I think we can pull off one good trick play to help the cause and keep the defense honest. We have lined Tommy up in the wildcat as a receiver and I cannot recall him dropping a pass - will we see a Morgan to Woodson connection in the red zone this week? The biggest concern I have with the short week is that last weekend was distracting for them with an emotional win and the crazy weather/reschedule. It sounds like they got home between 10-11:00 PM on Sunday night and had Monday off with voluntary video review on Monday. If we stay focused and disciplined, this is going to be a competitive game, giving us a shot to go 4-0 in the MAC. I have heard both Bowden and Woodson talking about the team being hungry after last season. I really hope we se that hunger on Saturday.1 point
