Figured a match up so critical to the Zips' championship aspirations merited a game day thread....2 points

Remember the poster that thought we could average 15k fans this season? I agree with Balsy though. I'm kind of over talking about attendance. Its going to continue to blow until the culture surrounding the game improves.2 points

So a team with only one returning starter, a new coach, and a bunch of other guys who have never played together didn't look that good in their first scrimmage. And everyone has decided we will have a horrible season based on this? Probably the same guys who wanted to fire Bowden (who is probably on the way to another bowl game and has a good shot to take the MAC East). Oh well. WE ARE AKRON.2 points

I believe this is correct, but a top 8 seed gets you an extra home game in the seeding, which is a massive help in trying to advance.2 points

If it's 78 and sunny that day, and all NE Ohio cancels work the following morning, and they're offering buy one get 3 free....10k butts in seats.2 points

http://www.herdzone.com/sports/m-soccer/recaps/102817aaa.html The zips next opponent defeated Alabama Birmingham in their last game and former Zip Adi Dakwar was the hero. Adi played 58 minutes and had the golden goal. ....and a belated thank you to Adi Dakwar for converting his penalty kick against Stanford in the NCAA semis in 2015.1 point

It depends on where you sit. Keener's photo is the side most people don't go to sit on. Just saying...horrible contextual photo Keener (now I'm not saying it was very good attendance...just better than the empty bleachers on the visitor side).1 point

I posted this in another thread, and I'll copy it over here. 34 minutes ago, Captain Kangaroo said: "Nope. 10 wins is a horrible by pretty much anyone but Dan Hipsher's post-Crawford standards. I'll expect .500 basketball, and hope for better." I think this is about right. For comparison, John Groce went 15-17 (7-9 in the MAC) in his first year at OU. He had 11 players ON THE ROSTER that year, and I think only 9 could play (2 redshirts/transfers). The MAC that year was deeper than it is now, with all of the East Division - minus OU - finishing at 10-6 or better in the MAC. The following year Groce lost 6 players from the previous season, with the class of Baltic/Cooper/Horne/Keely/Kinney replacing them. They proceeded to go 22-15 (7-9 in the MAC), oh yeah, and they advanced to the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament after knocking off Georgetown. Akron has 12 players on the roster that can play, 15 total. Now, it's a very young team, but that doesn't change who the coach is. I'm expecting around 15-17 wins, and am optimistic we could possibly sneak into the 20s. I don't consider the MAC to be as deep or as strong as it was back then.1 point

I thought this during the Buffalo game. Home field advantage has to turn into a disadvantage at that point. I recall playing basketball in high school and getting amped for a huge game mid-winter and coming out of the locker room to 70 people. Hopefully D1 athletes can "clear the mechanism" and work past it.1 point

Thank you. I needed someone to step in and crush all my high expectations and remind me how horrible it all is.1 point

And BTW, Jimond was not excited by being called the 13th best player in the MAC! https://twitter.com/easymoney____1/status/925042393119936512 Where's the graphic??1 point

I had the opportunity to watch it on direct TV satellite and the broadcast was great although the announcers were too impartial for my liking ?1 point

I'd say the Chapman conversion to WR can be considered a success. Good for him and the Zips.1 point

Love the shots as always but hate the first one. Hate being reminded how two great captains (and people) are done for the year.1 point

No what!? Thats what 'the experts' said in 2005. No way Akron could beat NIU 2 times in one season. I assume you know how that ended? Not saying that this team is as good as JD's 2005 team, its not! But If these guys get on a roll I want to be in Detroit to see what happens. Better than what has happened the last 6 years.1 point

I was thinking the same thing but realized after cutting the cord that I don't even watch 1/4 of the channels bundled in cable I would gladly pay 5-10 a month for each channel I actually watch and have them as apps on appleTV, fireTV or another streaming player. For some it would not make sense but for me and @Balsy, it sounds like we watch exactly ZERO television that can't be found on free digital OTA Then just 2-3 sports apps and I'm set.1 point

I never made it over there because I was too busy celebrating the football victory in the parking lot But, someone who was there told us, "It's going to be a rough year, and we just don't have the players to do anything about it" That was their option, and I am just repeating it. And I have no agenda by stating that. I'm neither a Groce fanatic, or a Dambrot hater.1 point

I have no idea what this season will bring. My expectations are very low but I think there is an opportunity for great success. I really like Utomi, Ivey and Olajapoke and if some of the newcomers can step in and play well, we may be in for a very pleasant surprise. If we lose a lot, at least we have that new scoreboard.1 point
