  3. I feel old when I see a kid from my son's class committing to a college. Will is an amazing athlete. If he didn't elect to focus on soccer he could be an all-state player in multiple sports.

  4. Did Lebron score his 30,000th point last week or should that be adjusted too?

  5. Right. Jimmond now has the single-game scoring record at UA. There might be another record for number of baskets made in a single game.

  6. With all this talk about who is leaving, who will be on Groce's staff, who will be coming in has had me doing some Twitter stalking, lol. One thing that sticks out is Jimond Ivey and the leadership role he seems to be taking. There has been no talk of him waivering, even though out of potential transfers, he is probably at the top of the list (above both Antino and Noah) in landing at a high major. Instead, he not only was front and center at the Groce presser, has been taking the "this is now your team talk" to heart. The anti-OSU people will hate this, but this situation seems a lot like what it was when Tyvis Powell was the first player in the Buckeyes' football class to reconfirm his commitment to the school following the Jim Tressel fallout. True, that's not exactly apples-to-apples since Jimond is already established. But he's somebody, like Powell, if he wanted out, he had landing spots. But all you are seeing is somebody who appears to be committed to the school/program. Powell has become somewhat of a folk hero at Ohio State. I think Ivey has the chance at doing the same at Akron. I don't blame anybody for leaving, but it says something to me when you see somebody embracing what will be a challenging season. If Jimond sees this out and helps continues to build on the foundation that has been established, there is no doubt that he will go down as my all-time favorite Zips player, and I know there has never been a player I will be rooting for more than what I will be doing for Jimond next year.

  9. Jimond Ivey earned Mid-American Conference East Division Player of the Week accolades after leading the Akron men's basketball team with two great performances, including a historic 48-point effort, the league announced Monday. Over the two-game span, Ivey averaged 32.5 points while shooting 55.3 percent from the field (21-of-38) and 61.1 percent from long distance (11-of-18). In 79 minutes of action, he went 12-of-14 from the free throw line while adding 7.0 rebounds (14), 3.0 assists (6), 1.5 steals (3) per game. Ivey broke several records in a 111-106 double-overtime loss to Ball State at Worthen Arena. Ivey scored 48 points to set Akron's all-time single-game scoring record which stood for 25 years. He also set the Worthen Arena records for most points and most 3-pointers in a game while tying the arena record for made field goals. Ivey was magnificent on both ends of the floor against the Cardinals, shooting 65.2 percent (15-of-23) from the field that included a 75 percent effort (9-of-12) from downtown. Ivey scored 34 points in regulation and registered seven points in each of the 5-minute overtime periods. He was 9-of-10 from the charity stripe and added eight rebounds, two assists, two steals, and a blocked shot in 49 minutes of work. Source: GoZips.com

  10. Interesting prospect. I don't know if I'm a good evaluator of OL/DL play but it looks like this kid has a great motor and is rather strong. Not sure brute strength wins as much at the FBS level as it can/does at the high school level, though. Could be a kid that can really develop in time though and would trust the coaches to make that call. Since he mentions Coach Ekkens, I'll assume they are recruiting him for the OL (at least initially) which I like; never enough big men in the trenches!

  11. You can't possibly think knocking off Duquesne meant that much to them, right? They're a top 25 team and the cream of the crop in a down A10 this year. They struggled mightily all game, shooting around 30% from the floor at the half or something like that, and won on a buzzer beater 3. Anybody with a pulse is going to be excited for a win like that, and the fans helped will them to victory in that second half. My bet would be they wanted to see their team remain in the top 25 and undefeated in the A10, not because of a strong desire to beat the new-and-improved mighty Dukes of Duquesne. Dambrot has the Dukes playing at an exciting new level for what they're used to at Duquesne. He's a good coach, and I don't think that has ever been denied, but he has a ceiling that he has yet to break through. This was a typical Dambrot loss, no matter the state of the program, and that's what my comment was in regards to. We saw it plenty of times here at Akron - Nevada, VCU, NIT games, MAC tourney games, etc. And I'm telling you, the state of the A10 this year is aiding the appearance of the quick turnaround at Duquesne.

  16. @Cykron - I'm a University of Colorado Alumnus. The CU mascot is the best mascot in all of CFB (biased of course). When Ralphie the Buffalo runs out onto the field pre-game it's freaking awesome. A couple of my buddies in college were "Ralphie handlers" which means they got to be drug around the field by a stampeding 2500 pound animal just for the kicks of it I love the team mascots when they are engaged with the fans. Zippy does a pretty good job; hopefully he/she keeps it up.

  18. Right. And gozips.com should point that out and not conflate the 2 different eras.

  23. No but the call on Duvivier at the end of regulation was appalling. Never should have gone to OT.
