  1. Certainly less pressure and expectations when you're the underdog. Maybe that's why we've won this tournament as a #5 and #6 seed.

  2. I have about 10 more hours to stay ahead of myself, and I'm thoroughly enjoying it.

  5. I agree with this, hence my comment about the MAC being a top 10-12 conference RPI/ratings wise. I strongly dislike the MAC, but they are most definitely superior - consistently - to about 15+ conferences. I also struggle to put much merit on what has become a money game for the NCAA by design. I never liked the play-in game when it was, what, 2 16-seed games? Now I really hate it with higher seeds in there. It's all about squeezing every last dollar out of these schools.

  6. Personally, I feel the tougher and more enjoying feat would be winning the MAC tournament as an 11 seed over beating a ~.500 MEAC/SWAC team.

  7. Is it equivalent to beating Kansas in Round #1? No. But it would be HUGE. The Zips first NCAA D1 tourney win! What a story...a nationally televised game...in front of a packed house in Dayton where the Ohio fans would be 98% on our side...the team with 7 scholarship players wins a tourney game to advance to the field of 64? Sign me up!

  8. As much as a Participation Trophy. With that being said, if you told me we'd win a 1st round game in Dayton this year, I'd be incredibly happy, but that has to do more with how this season has gone/expectations.

  9. I'm in agreement that Akron would be a 16 seed. I just don't think they would be one of the 16 seeds who has to play in Dayton.

  10. It's a strange feeling. Almost like playing with house money. I've become used to the Zips being a favorite and having trepidation that they might blow it. This whole underdog thing just feels weird.

  11. I wonder if any television will be tuned to NBC Sports Network at 6 pm at the Corner Alley today? I think it would be interesting to hear the bar crowd react during the game.

  12. Don't let it happen again (although before these past couple of seasons, we did traditionally struggle mightily against the zone).

  13. It's been a busy couple years for me, and I seem to have lost track of our recent results in those series. The trends are still largely true though. Thanks to you and skip-zip for the historic factual corrections. The standards here are obviously high, and I spouted off like a PCCC graduate. Thanks again for putting me back in line.

  14. I've been to the games in Dayton before. It's actually a fun part of the tournament because all of the matchups are against equal seeds, so it's far more competitive than most of the opening games later in the week. The City of Dayton rolls out the red carpet, and the UD fans pack the place for all sessions. It's a lot of fun. Generally, the 16 vs. 16 game on both Tuesday and Wednesday night are teams that won conference tournaments, but had really bad records, or sometimes even losing records. So, to your point, I think it would probably be nearly impossible for us to avoid a 16-seed play-in game, unless there was a lot of really bad teams that pulled tournament mega-upsets in numerous conferences. The good news is that I'm guessing this would be the closest venue for us to travel.

  16. How do you like that I came on to write this exact statement and low and behold NWA has me beat! I went back to ESPN3 to see the foul against Jimond that sat him down for the last 6:20 or so. He was looking through a screen, reached in to try and strip and got the ballhandler the arm. It was almost the exact play that sent Vershon to the free throw line. There's just no way even a MAC official can not call that. Is there????

  18. Looked like he had it back on for the WMU game. At the Kent game, the brace was off, but at least I could tell that he was still favoring it. Patton played his best game the other night. I'm rather hoping the entire team is back for next year.

  19. For those of us that didn't give up and watched the game live, we thank you for this recap. FIFY I didn't think that deep, but I was afraid he got hurt. More importantly, the whistle wasn't very obvious right away, so it took me a quick second to realize they actually called the foul. Calling obvious fouls is their job. It's the ticky-tack, inconsistent crap throughout a game that people take issue with. It cannot be stated enough how great of a job Groce has done coaching this year. It helps make the future look really, really bright. Also, the MAC is taking notice, evident by Can't State's and OU's message boards.

  20. I was able to attend the "Talk with the Coach" Friday at the JAR prior to the victory over Kent and ended up talking with UG for a bit. I'm 6'2" (prob 6'3" with shoes) and found myself looking up to UG. I'd have to say he's at least 6'4". It prompted me to check the roster as I didn't remember him being listed that tall and it has him at 6'1". Now 6'4" (or 5") is a fantastic size for an NFL linebacker - don't ya think?
