  2. I feel Ramart is the future. If not this coming season, definitely the next and beyond.

  3. I did not mean to imply that the staff had given up on Virshon. They didn't. Rather he gave up on doing things their way. He was a talent no doubt, but this is addition by subtraction. The staff did everything they could to help him along the way, but it was always going to be the Akron basketball way, not Virshon's. He could not accept that. Next year his playing time was probably going to be reduced. With that you risk him being a cancer in the locker room. That is not an acceptable risk. Good luck to him wherever he goes. The team will be better for his departure.

  4. ”Who are these guys?!” was the question I kept asking myself regarding The University of Akron’s 2018 Football Recruiting Class. The local newspapers gave Akron’s February 7th, 2018 National Signing Day virtually no print space. Northeast Ohio television stations all but ignored the event. And the various internet recruiting websites again focused their columns on the Power 5 programs. Aside from the noble efforts of a couple local AM radio sports talk personalities, the Zips signing day coverage fell well short of what a real fan wanted to learn about the class, and certainly beneath the coverage it merited. 2018 has a chance to be a great year for Zips football, and the kids bound to these 25 letters of intent have some really interesting storylines. So I thought I would head down to the Zips football offices and see if Head Coach Terry Bowden would give me a little time to discuss the class. Here’s what he had to say. 5. I wasn't endorsing Scott Barnes. I just didn't want to steal the quote. Lol

  6. Scott Barnes is a certified moron. Not that I disagree with that statement

  7. I heard St. V Coach is doing linebackers, one of the offensive grad asst. from last year is doing the TE/H back since Boykin went to RB not announcing. DC makes you think a little, i thought they would give to Stroud & let Thompson the video guy do DL as he works with them now, maybe Stroud, just a guess doesn’t feel comfortable taking for health reasons, be interested in seeing what we do, any old Bowden connections out there ?

  8. Couple things, watching video it showed Robbie Kelley in an arm sling, prospectus had 13 number changes, noticed a few starting defenders not on depth chart but listed on roster Alvin Davis & Brian Bell. Dylan Meeks moved to D-Line, more depth on D-Line than last year. Offensive formation used with TE, if i remember right they used the H formation on prospectus last year, maybe for Chapman to be listed as a starter Like seeing football ? news, gets the blood pumping

  9. Kato better keep his nose to the grindstone. That kid looks like he could be a real player.

  11. I feel like it has to be an internal promotion if nothing has been done yet.

  12. Alex impressed me last spring, glad to read he continues to progress. I'm a little surprised this hasn't been resolved yet...."Defensively, the most significant loss and issue for the Zips might be finding a replacement for associate head coach and defensive coordinator Chuck Amato....UA continues the search — internally and externally."

  13. Better turn out than expected in the freezing weather. Dozens were in attendance to see Zips trounce FC Porto, a youth academy from Toronto. It is not too soon to say this: Catch the brilliance that is David Egbo while you still can! He is looking more special every outing! He is unlikely to play out his full eligibility. Such touch! Such poise!

  14. I don't see that UA "gave up" on Virshon. What I see is a player whose "character" was not in line with what Groce wants to achieve, the type of issue that causes team dissension and drama that individual talent can't counterbalance. You only needed to watch his interactions on the bench with his teammates and consider Groce's comments from the EMU postgame to see this coming. I wish the kid well wherever he ends up, but this outcome was predictable.

  15. Virshon had some great moments we will always remember with Western game and BG game as well. But I still remember watching him go after Jimond and there was the suspension that was pre-pink eye. When Virshon had a big game, Groce let him do the post-game interviews. I appreciate that Groce is able to make a hard call and put sentiment aside in order to build a team. (If that's how it played out).

  16. Bittersweet. I think his potential, talent wise, was quite high. But ultimately he wasn't the best fit for this team and the culture Groce is trying to build. Having two scholarships open is huge in my opinion.
