  1. It symbolizes the focus on the classroom, and .5 pt. bump in the team GPA since Arth took over. You're welcome, Akron PR.

  3. Very few teams in the country are expecting their center to go get 20 and 10 a night that’s not where the game is now. Nowadays you want your center defending at a high level, rebounding and protecting the rim I think Diak is capable of that.

  4. Ran into Jeff Boals at the Atlanta airport. Ohio has 7 freshmen this year! He listened to me talk MAC basketball for 5 minutes.? He's in same row. Any questions u want asked?

  5. They might have to schedule a makeup field hockey game that day, so that might effect the number of fans that show up at Info.

  6. It's just a shame the Trojans never played in the Rubber Bowl.

  7. What a heartbreaking time for Niko's family. Isn't it incredible that in such a time of great pain his family stays rooted in their faith and love. All my prayers go to him and his family. It makes me so proud to see the outstanding character our boys bring with them to Akron. I am proud to have worn the colors and to say "Once a Zip always a Zip."

  9. After 1...maybe 2 games, I was done with I-and-ll-o. It was a combination of what I saw on the field, and how he treated people as a human being. He was a first class jerkwad. There was no way he succeeded as a HC. Arth has so many positives...he's a great person (Ianello wasn't), he's a tireless, energetic hands-on teacher (Bowden was much more into delegating). I haven't seen anything from Arth that makes be believe he won't be highly successful at Akron in a few short years. It sucks that turning around 30 years of, at-best, mediocre football, takes time. But he seems to have the acumen, tools, and energy to do it. Barring injuries, which always screw up any predictions. I expect the Zips will continue to improve as the 2019 season progresses. They definitely won't tank, and finger-point. Heck, they could be 2-2 at the end of September? Go Zips!

  10. Well, at least we have Silver Creek Metro Park, even if we don't have a track to run on. Our track and cross-country coaches were instrumental in design and installation of a fantastic cross-country course at Silver Creek Park in Norton, to be used by college and high school teams throughout the season. And this year our XC team won the Tommy Evans Invitational out there, and out two besties, Mackenzie Andrews - All-American, and Andre Bollam-Godbott took firsts, and Andre even "mixed it up" a little at the finish line with the defending champ of the MAC from Ohio! Maybe no fireworks at the football game, but out in Norton...close!

  11. This game will be a barometer about what the rest of the season may look like for Akron in the MAC. A loss against another team with a new coaching staff and apparently in a rebuilding mode would indicate that the Zips are going to have a tough time with most of the rest of their schedule. You have to think though with a very experienced HC in McElwain and Charlie as the OC their offense might be a little more dynamic than expected. The mantra is the same this week. Finally find SOME sort of a consistent run game. No TO's Kato. No big plays behind Akron's secondary this week. Get ahead early by running the ball and using the short passing game. Keep CMU's defense on the field. That said,I have no idea what to expect from Akron in this game.

  13. Much love to Niko De Vera and his family during this most difficult time. No one has ever represented Akron Zips Soccer better than has Niko De Vera. Once a Zip; Always a Zip. ZNo mourns.

  15. I agree with Clark. Not sure why some of you have the need to just drag down the ZipsNation experience for everyone else. We all complain and moan from time to time, but we aren't haters.

  16. As I get older, I tend to eliminate things from my life that bring me misery. As such, I don't get why you continue to follow the Zips athletic program as it seems to bring you nothing but misery. Don't get me wrong, I don't begrudge you following whoever you want for whatever reasons, it just befuddles me a little. I guess maybe it's a loyalty to your alma mater or a hope for a return to the "good old times."

  17. At the end of the day, you all can keep your agendas or lose 'em. You can choose to support the guys and coaches out there busting their asses or you can choose to sit around and bitch behind the keyboard about a decision that has already been made. I know where I stand and I know what decision is going to make me less miserable of a person. I'm a Zips fan and I'm going to root for whoever is out there, hope for the best, and try to be rational in analysis.

  18. Heartbreaking, very sad news The 18 year old sister of Niko De Vera has passed away. I believe that she had been battling cancer. Sending my love, prayers and support to Niko and all of his family. May their tremendous faith and wonderful family memories lift them up and provide comfort during this unbearably difficult time. Zips Nation loves and cares for all of the De Vera family.
