  1. The Big Dog off-season training program is working well for Bam Bowman.

  2. Predictions for today - • Zips win by 13 • The t-shirt cannon’s shirts will all unfurl after traveling roughly 15 feet, and land softly in rows 2-5 of the Blue Hair section • All 32 Taylor Made Jewelry basketballs land in the Blue Hair section....none make it to the unwashed masses above. • Only the ugly people in the east stands will be shown in the Kiss Cam. The good-looking ones in the west stands will pucker up for nothing. • No one on the big screen during the Kiss Cam bit will realize it. • My BAC will be 0.1 lower than if the game were held at 7pm. The referees should be grateful.

  3. https://www.beaconjournal.com/sports/20200221/with-five-games-left-zips-control-their-destiny-in-mac All this talk about seedings and hoping certain teams beat other teams, then this article pops up tonight. One game at a time. The blue-blooded eastern division of the MAC will be feeding on each other the next five games. Can't overlook any of them.

  4. Daniel has been playing very well and had a career high of 23 points for USC last week and I saw him interviewed on a post game show. Very intelligent young man. The next game USC lost to a ranked team but Daniel is now a starter and played over 30 minutes. I am glad to see that he is doing well. I think his decision to transfer worked out for both teams. I just don't think LCJ could control this team like he has if Daniel would have stayed. I believe that this team plays better without him because we are quicker and more athletic.

  5. BG just got a gift from the refs. Then OU missed a FT. Can't count on anyone to help out the Zips

  6. I was wrong about this team I did not project watching a 20+ winning team this season. I tip my hat off to Groce, the staff and the Zips They look great. I will be in the building for Rival March 6th

  7. Maybe, but who's going to rebound. He just got a double double. Also, even an "off" X is better than any sub for him.

  8. Do you think the Zips could raise more money for the cause by auctioning those uniforms or by getting us all to kick into a fund for them to never use them again?

  12. I did get to see the great Len Paul many times. He was a tremendous talent. Great shooter, ball handler, passer. And he was the best player on probably the best Akron team ever. The 71-72 national runner-ups. He got drafted by the Pistons, but inexplicably decided not to sign. He was the last cut as a free-agent with the Cavs. And never played in the NBA. Paul was a much better all-around player than Jakubic, imo. But I have never seen a better pure shooter than Joe. He could heave it from anywhere... look terribly awkward doing it... but the ball just went in. He had other skills, too, but the shooting was uncanny. If you never got to see it, you just might not be able understand. Was truly something.

  13. * At least one rally/momentum swing will be squashed by a time out filled by children on hippity hop balls or a dizzy contestant face planting at the three point line

  16. Akron is already below the 85 scholarship count. I believe we could have another 25 scholarship class this season and we'd still be below. If nothing else those Bowden guys can provide depth until they trickle off the roster.

  17. You've been able to in past years. I used to have men's and women's season tickets and would give my women's tickets to someone else and use my men's tickets for both.

  18. Haven't been to the Big Dance in 7 years. No match-up would be "lame". Bring on whomever we would draw. I just want to get there.

  19. It was certainly underutilized for a number of years because A) it was a new foreign concept to coaches and B ) players didn't grow up practicing it so they weren't as good at shooting them as today's players. I'm not going to pretend to know whether or not Joe could have made it in the NBA. I wasn't even born yet when he was at Akron. I was just making it known that the 3-point line did indeed exist.

  20. To balance things out, do you bring in potentially the two worst D-1 football programs in the nation in UMass and UConn? I'd expect the MAC to be happy with its present membership. There's no need to add conference boat anchors. And there's no way UConn allows their hoops team to go on the road and play in MAC arenas as compensation us accommodating their football program.

  21. But it was not really much of a factor in the NBA game for many years to come. It remained a league of big guys in the post and dribble penetration. A player averaging more than three attempts from 3 per game probably would have been among the league leaders. If the three was then what it is now, I bet Joe would have had a career as a pro.

  22. Watching Joe play in Memorial Hall was amazing fun, even the teams he was on were pretty poor to average. It's incredible to consider how many shots he made that would have been six to eight feet behind today's 3-pt line. Crazy technique, zero ball rotation... but absolute money. The Cavs gave him a shot, and I have no doubt he would have made the team if the 3-pt shot existed at the time. And he eould have thrived, I believe.

  23. Edit: *Me looking at the rankings and seeing there are 3 teams on our schedule who are ranked worse than us.*

  24. This would be the death of Mid Majors, especially in hoops. Any freshman with a breakout first year could get himself an upgrade in his degree without any pain.
