  1. Keep in mind our coach played QB in the NFL and other professional football for a number of years, even had the opportunity to learn behind one of the all time greats in that. I'm sure hot routes/audibles to adjust to blitzes is a very elementary concept to him. He's mentioned in pressers how much the QB is asked to do and that includes getting them into the right play based on what the defense is showing. I'm highly confident that issue sticks out as a result of a red-shirt freshman QB running the ship and learning as he goes and gains more experience rather than it being a coaching issue.

  2. I always travel to Kent and buy my seat early online and one year I found a second row seat center court. I am wearing my Akron stuff and as I am going to my seat a Kent fan yelled at me that I could not sit there. I waved my internet ticket and yelled back yes I can. I sat down and did not think much of it until 2 minutes later a young usher came to me and told me he was sorry but he had to check my ticket. I showed it to him and then he apologized and said they have some crazy fans. I remember when Kent came to Akron I was looking for the guy so I could demand to see his ticket. Unfortunately, never saw him again.

  3. Keep an eye out on this guy. Director of Recruiting liked this tweet and we have about 5 Zips coaches already following him, and from what I can tell we didn't recruit him out of HS. Have not noticed this type of activity from the staff on other transfer portal recruits in the past.

  4. Agree 100%. And when a player's career path goes Big 10->MAC->FCS, it's pretty slim odds that the problem is "coaching."

  5. I don't see it on the schedule B & G.

  6. I'm really surprised the football team got in all of their games.

  7. Zipfan21, there is some fault with lack of protection. Failure to pick up blitzers was a problem, but that extra rusher left a hole for a hot reciever. There is no way to competently evaluate performance from our couch; so like everyone else here, I'm just spouting opinions. That green O-line blocked for a 1st team RB. Sure there were some drops, but everyone has some. I believe improved QB performance will make a big difference for us. Keeping the defense off the field longer being big. I also think producing more wins next year really falls on the D. If there is a statistic for D forcing 3&outs and punts, I think we could be on the bottom. Can the staff bring in some help or coach up what we have to make a difference? We will know this time next year.

  9. After watching the game I realized I did not recognize half the players and just went through the bio of the new players. It looks like we are picking up players who were highly recruited and played for big schools but did not get a great deal of playing time. I know that Groce had to bring in junior college transfers and he certainly has hit the lottery with the guys he has brought in but in a Covid world we are going to struggle against programs like Bonny that have kept their starting players from last year. Groce needs time to mold these guys into a team. I think we are going to struggle until they learn to play together and I hope that Groce has kept that eye for talent that brought us Cheese, Banks, X man and Riak.

  10. Incoming QB DJ Irons will enroll in January and take part in spring practice, as will Monaghan (TE), Gathings (WR), and Mumpfield (WR). IIRC Ryan Jankowski (QB) is already enrolled. DJ Irons was the Georgia big-school-division Offensive POY his senior year in high school.

  11. The PCCC Animal Husbandry Center is a mere minutes from my palatial estate, so I have been to a number of the games there. There's something magical about not being able to see a quarter of the floor from GA seats. Almost as bad as looking through a glass divider.

  12. I hear we had to give them 100% of the gate to make it happen.

  14. Already up there. It just has not been mounted yet. How many POY do we have?

  15. Outside of Brandon Council, I do not think that one zip has moved on to bigger and better teams. The players may move onto FBS, Div II, or Div III teams, but they have not moved onto other big time programs. It shows that we have too many players that have limited talent. Let them move on. If they cannot stay committed to being a Zip, let them go and we will save on scholarship money. I want players who love Akron as much as several people on this board.

  16. Good post. 1. You're correct. Not landing =/= not recruiting. Carman said "recruited." I gave him the benefit of the doubt and posted "landed." But there is definitely a difference. 2. I believe you're correct concerning the City Series kids. East's DeVanier Floyd seemed like an Arth-type recruit. The others... not so much. Arth & Co. are clearly working to change the personality of the locker room. Buchtel had a handful of good players this year (all of whom played at Massillon this year ?) but I really doubt Arth is interested in any of them... at all. 3. If you read the thread some people are just negative about the city of Akron. But hey, our campus is beautiful, downtown is about to come alive and is truly experiencing a renaissance. Our stadium is beautiful & the field house is excellent. It has to be the lack of winning which makes it difficult. The soccer & basketball team don't have any trouble landing top-shelf talent.

  18. This guy should have at least been given a chance to take the program into D1. Would he have been better than Faust? Who knows. But he ran the last consistently winning program at Akron.

  19. Your post struck a good chord with me in that you are one of the few on here to ackowledge that one can be critical of Arth and Bowden at the same time. Since Bowden's departure people want to characterize everyone on here as Pro-Bowden/Anti-Arth or Pro-Arth/Anti-Bowden. I for one was anti-Bowden and my jury is still out on Arth, and I am critical of some of the things I have seen. At one win in two years, the jury is definitely leaning towards convicting Arth but it is still out.
