I'll weigh in since this thread has nearly completed a full swirly at this point. I have my vaccine and booster and regularly mask. I am confident I could survive the virus, but I don't do these things for me. I do them for my immune compromised spouse, my co-worker battling cancer, the senior that volunteers for me.... Like NWAkron said, there's a middle ground. Also, I opt to rely on the scientists as opposed to talk show hosts, grandstanding politicians and internet whackos. To get us back on topic, the current MAC Standings: Ohio 1-0 Akron 1-0 Miami 1-0 Ball State 1-0 CMU 1-0 Toledo 1-1 Brimfield 1-1 EMU 0-0 N. Illinois 0-0 BG 0-1 Buffalo 0-2 WMU 0-22 points

I have been surprised with the limited recruiting activity recently, so I did a little research on the recruiting period and rules. It appears that there is currently a dead period that runs through January 13. If you have an interest, please review the following link. It lists the recruiting periods and defines them. For example, in the dead period, there can be texts and communications but not contact. https://www.ncsasports.org/ncaa-eligibility-center/recruiting-rules/recruiting-calendar#:~:text=Generally speaking%2C the most important dates on the, more specific dates%2C find your sport-specific calendar below. I knew the different periods existed, but I did not know the details. It looks like there are a lot of exceptions for the rules. I will continue to sit tight as JoeMo's staff does what is needed. But, do not be disappointed if there is limited activity for the next 11 days. In Joe We Trust!2 points

Thanks again for pulling this information together LGZ94. (B&G, I hope you are feeling better). Last night as I was watching the bowl games, I googled every one of the assistants listed above to review their coaching and playing history. I went into the websites from many of the various schools that they coached at and read details on these coaches. What an impressive list of assistants that JoeMo has assembled to lead the Zips. They are not a bunch of DIII coaches and players. Several were Grad Assistants who had experience at multiple P5 schools, and they were promoted to position coaches at Akron. My guess is that in addition to being up and comers, their salary is pretty low to meet the Akron budget, which is not infinite. They are recent players and can be great role models as well as mentors to the young Zips. Then, there is much college experience in Richardson, Ferri, Rodriguez, and Toth. They have recruiting knowledge and experience as well as excellent resume's in coaching. I do think the coaching on the defensive side of the ball is a little thin, and I hope the final coach that is hired supports the D. I wish this staff was together for months to recruit; I would expect Akron to have the highest rated recruiting class in the MAC. With all the athletes entering the portal, I still expect an excellent class by the time February rolls around and the late signing period commences. For Zips Nation members, I encourage you to research and get to know these coaches. Based on their pedigrees, I fully expect most of them to be snatched up by bigger programs and higher paying jobs in the near future. But, that is a good thing. I would bet that JoeMo has a long list of additional coaches that he could hire as part of succession planning. I am so excited to see the recruiting, Spring football game, and then the season to begin. In Joe We Trust!!!2 points

I've heard that Coach M sticking around Oregon to finish the season is generating positive opinions of him in high school coaching circles. Coaches want to believe a new coach is committed to a program when they advise a recruit to consider a school. His commitment to Oregon makes high school coaches believe he will be committed to Akron. Anything can happen, but this is a good start.2 points

I might as well weigh in on this while we nervously await the Nelsonville Kittens. There's a middle ground. I'm all for vaccines. I always get a flu shot and never get the flu. I don't want covid so I got my vaccine and booster. Is there a chance I can still get it, sure, but I like my odds better with the vaccine. But now that we know what to do to protect ourselves and can get vaccines I'm done with restrictions. Now that we know better hopefully we will all do better. I'm not personally offended by the unvaccinated. If they want to risk getting very sick and or die that's on them. I see them in the obits every day...anyone who dies "at Akron General" or after a "in the hospital" probably was a covid case. This virus can't be contained so we have to live with it.1 point

You're trying to hard. You're ascribing all kinds of things to my statements that just aren't there. I guess it's just the way I live my life that I have this optimism that overrides the fear mongering that is so prevalent today. Keep it up though, it's entertaining.1 point

But when they first came out with the vaccine wasn't the message that if you take the vaccine, you'll be immune to the virus & we'll thus make the virus extinct? Ala, measles, polio, small pox, etc., etc. That was certainly my understanding (I realize I put that in terrible layman's terms. Lol.) But if that was in fact the original message, was it an over-simplification? Or perhaps wishful thinking from the beginning? Or was the vaccine simply not as effective as originally hoped? And I'll ask here because it sounds like you have a pretty good idea of what you're talking about: how is it we had effective vaccinations for measles, polio, small pox, etc., but not for the flu or the "common cold?" What's the difference?1 point

I thought he still had a little forward momentum after initially being pushed back. Fun game in any event.1 point
