  1. The nature of the event made is really tough to make any detailed evaluations. First...it began early? I arrived a little before 3 pm and had missed the first 10 game minutes. šŸ™ The clock ran quickly...no commercial breaks...nuthin'. If you blinked, you missed a play. No video replay screen. You got one look at a play, and it was at the field-level view of the field house stands. Upper deck of InfoCision would have been much nicer. I was constantly flipping through my phone roster trying to match up new players numbers to their names. It'll be more informative to attend some of the August practices and scrimmages. I will definitely try to hit some.

  2. What I suspect is happening is that JoeMo is clearing out walk-ons that he does not believe will contribute and in turn will bring in higher caliber walk-ons. There are hundreds of players in the portal that will not find scholarships this year. So, there’s a good chance we land some quality players as walk-ons that were formerly on scholarship elsewhere. I’ve seen it happen at several Power 5 schools where players are transferring in on preferred walk-on status with the chance of earning a scholarship somewhere down the line.

  3. "Script Akron" is a stock Nike font. It looks like the nostalgic dream of some guy in his 60's with z-e-r-o modern graphic design acumen. It's wholly unsexy. It's completely unimaginative. The stand-alone "Akron" visually connects to the city of Akron, and in no way associates with the University. I pray Guthrie has the acumen to sift through the scores of poor opinions and select something that looks cool on a helmet or t-shirt, looks cool next to our score on a televised event, is something the alumni and community can rally around, and sells a lot of merchandise.

  4. FYI I just read an article written by Ralph Russo of the Associated Press. He reports that the executive director of the American Football Coaches Association says it’s likely, perhaps within the next year, that the annual scholarship limit of 25 will be scrapped while holding the total limit at 85. He also says they are talking about narrowing the time window for players to enter the portal. The current proposal would limit portal entry to between the last Sunday in November until the first signing date in mid-December and also between April 15 and May 1.

  5. Updated for the removal of Woobendy Guerrier, Brandon Bischoff, and Joey Marousek as well as the additions of Keylen Davis (since he was announced at the spring game) and Daniel George. Leaves us with an estimated 1 scholarship open, which I presume would go to a QB. We may find out about a few more players leaving at some point, but 247 has a lot of updating to do so we're basically relying off of what we see on twitter at this point. 6. Can’t believe any will end up at another D1 program. The Killer B’s (Boateng, Behm and Bubba) were the only returnees I’d have expected to make an impact in 2022. They’re all still in the Program.

  8. I've seen it and it's not timeless. It is better than script Akron but that's a very low bar.

  9. I joke, but it is a position of need. Our current kicker did a nice job at the SG, but who knows what we have behind him.

  10. Pete Nance would be a blessing at any point.

  11. Lemme loop in Mark Kostelac. He knows all about Khadim's right cross.

  12. How would you compare his right cross to Khadim Gueye's?

  14. Whatever they do, it has to be timeless. We have 3 premier sports programs ready to take their respective next steps in notoriety, and the goal should be to establish a logo that becomes recognizable and synonymous with the University of Akron.

  15. My best guess is the current incoming commitments will be on scholarship, as we were below the 85 limit. But I could be wrong as we don’t have an inside source. I imagine some of the future incoming players will be PWO.

  16. Yes, this is what I was referring to in my post yesterday asking if we are assuming that all inbound portal transfers will be on an immediate scholarship. I believe you are right with what you are saying here.

  17. I disliked the A-Roo-Head logo as much as I like the Z. IMO it's one of the worst sports logos I've ever seen.

  19. Scholarships are year by year, you sign a one year contract, if your worthy of the next year the contract will be signed again. It includes room & board and is approximately 30k. They receive a small stipend if they take advantage of University room and board facilities & a much larger stipend if you live off campus. Although it is standard practice if you meet academic requirements & do everything your asked that the scholarship will be there until you are out of of eligibility, I have personally seen scholarships taken away when Arth got here of Bowden players that didn’t meet his demands either academically or athletically

  20. Oddly...I don't think you missed a ton. I think Irons looks good. He throws the ball on a rope. Our DL didn't give him much pressure, so it is tough to determine if his ball security bug-a-boos are in the past. I have to believe a P5 transfer, or a "Dalton Williams 2.0" will be brought in as insurance...or perhaps to start. If we had to rely on Jankowski for any stretch of time in 2022, I'm not too confident we beat anyone outside of Saint Francis. Maybe we could...but it would be a huge risk entering the season with him as our #2. For the most part the OL fended off the DL. It's to be expected with the Freshman becoming Sophs, and our DL running the aforementioned vanilla schemes. No one seemed to get hurt. That's a big plus! Cory Smigel gets game MVP. He may hit some FG's from 41 or even 42 yards this season? šŸ˜‰ No big, game-breaking runs. It does look like we'll be 4-deep in the backfield. No RB looked slow, or overmatched. I think the coolest thing was seeing the former players approach Coaches Ferri and Moorhead after the game and wish them well. Lots of warm hugs, smiles and well-wishes from the former players invited to show up. It was a great homecoming for those guys. I think the biggest concern going into the fall will be the DL. Not due to anything gleaned from the game...it's just the way it is. It was just fun to watch some Zips football amongst a "packed house." šŸ™‚

  22. I just keep thinking about the last time Guthrie and Miller rebranded a school. It ended up looking like this...
