  1. We get destroyed at the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball. Until that improves our chances of winning will remain where we are at right now.

  2. It's year 1 and I feel Joe is creating a fun offense that 18-23 year old skill players will want to play in. Irons is #12 in the nation in passing yards. We have 3 receivers in the top 100 in receiving yards (#20 Shocky, #86 George, and #87 Adams). Obviously we're not going to go out and land 4* and 5* freshmen, but I feel very much we can become a preferred destination for skilled players who have talent, but got buried on the depth chart at P5 schools and just want an opportunity to showcase their talent.

  3. catdaddyp is an excellent poster with great facts. I am not a glass half full or glass half empty person. I believe that you have the wrong size glass. If you do not understand this concept, then you are an Akron graduate with a Liberal Arts degree Go Zips!!!!

  4. I like how Moorhead chuckled and lit up a little when talking about the true freshmen OL. He knows it’s only a matter of time before we are really good up front. Not sure who George is afraid we’re going to lose. Doubt any of the P5 transfers would transfer back out and it’s unlikely any of the freshmen would transfer out at this point. I think the more likely scenario for anyone who transfers out is to go D2 or nowhere at all. Irons probably would be the exception.

  5. We barley get George to watch our home games. There is no way he is going to the away games.

  6. Haven't seen anything official, but from what i've put together, I think he only does post game pressers after home games.

  7. Texas A&M lost to the SC Gamecocks to go to 3-4. I have always considered Jimbo and Ed Orgeron in the same category. Coaches that are not very good but can recruit and wound up at a schools with money and an ability to recruit it's self. They then find a diamond in the rough qb that turns into a baller and the best player in the country. Stumble their way into a National Championship with snake oil. Then mismanage the program with their big heads. Jimbo after running FSU into the ground was able to load up with a new lot of snake oil and head west. He pulls off beating Alabama last year. Gets a 10 yr extension. Then this year is 1-3 in SEC play and has a lose to App St. He will probably end up on the SEC Network as an analyst.

  8. Looking forward to high temps in the 70s for a game in the last week of October!

  9. Regardless of my feelings on the situation I was just using Carolina as an example as I have inside sources there. Martin ultimately got fired this offseason and then quickly landed with UMASS. The BOT basically gave Martin one more year and then gave way to the AD.

  10. Wasel gets a lot of warranted hype, but lets not forget about Dijon Jennings. Should be a fun QB battle for the 24 season. https://247sports.com/Recruitment/Dijon-Jennings-127410/RecruitInterests/ https://www.hudl.com/profile/11113778/Dijon-Jennings

  11. If Irons stays it will be his job, no debate, but it is always great for a QB to early enroll to learn the system. If he progresses like JoeMo would hope it would be his job in 2024.

  12. Massive news. He looks to be running a pretty similar offense as we’ve got here. Must be why they went after him so far. On a lot of the plays, it appears the competition is such that he doesn’t need to try so he doesn’t move his feet and just flicks it out there. Not a fan of those. But on plays where he’s tasked with making reads and moving around, he looks very promising. And I didn’t expect to see accelerating like that, he can turn on the jets quick. With him coming in early, we could be looking at Irons vs. Steele for 2023.

  13. Great News! Edit: I thought it originally said early.

  14. One thing I wanted to point out was how well Kent presented a game day atmosphere. I know a lot on here want to just say all that matters is the game but in today's world with all the tv time outs and bringing in casual fans I really think it does matter. They constantly had something going on. They tried to really up the entertainment for the dollar. Now they had their issues. They had the volume levels too loud. They were clipping on their amps. You could hear the sound lose the low end and then the quality of the highs suffer. If your not a sound tech you probably don't notice those things other than it seemed overly loud at times. Some of the music was annoying for my taste but I get it. I was just impressed with how they presented the game.... especially for it being Cant. Akron has never been good at putting on or managing events of any kind. The details never seem to get worked out. We have also tried some of the fill during the game, but we never did a good job at it. I think we also never had the right guy as the "hype man". We talk about about what it takes to fix attendance. That list is long. It starts with winning. That will happen under Coach Joe. We need to start working on the rest of that list. We need people, when we do get them out, to have a good time win or lose. To enjoy the experience as a whole.

  15. Agree about both Jimbo and Oregon. Don’t discount South Carolina though (another turnaround situation). They are currently flying under the radar despite being ranked. Carolina has an explosive (former 5 star) running back in Marshawn Lloyd who is playing as well as anyone in the country. In a few weeks they will likely be 7-2 going into the Swamp. If they find a way to beat an inconsistent Florida team they will be 8-2, at home, against Tennessee. They’ve come a long way from their slow start to the year.

  16. I’ll keep up with this list as much as possible. At least until things spiral out of control with portal entries.

  17. A pass rush that had generated just 10 sacks in the first seven games of 2022 put Irons on the ground behind the line of scrimmage seven times. They sacked Irons four times in the fourth quarter.

  18. This week's advanced box score: https://collegefootballdata.com/boxscore/401416628 The Zips regressed big time in scoring opportunities (Remember, this is when the team advances the ball inside the opposing 40-yard line). They had consistently been scoring TDs in the red zone and cashing in on short yardage situations. This week (and the fumble last week falls under the same category), they failed to score TDs when they needed them to be TDs. There were a couple of picks thrown, a 22-yard FG, and a 4th & 1 run stuffed at the line. Had they been perfect in scoring opportunities (VERY rare), they would have scored 25 more points. Of course, that is unrealistic, especially for a team with growing pains. In 7 trips inside the 40, Akron scored 20 points. Kent only got inside the 40-yard line 5 times, including getting a punt at the 27. Kent very clearly won the ever-important field position battle, which has really killed the Zips dating back to the Liberty game. That said, they still had a plethora of chances to win the game, but let it slip out of their hands.

  19. So true. And 21-0 against healthy Kent, you could still lose that game. But 21-0 against a QB they're hiding with easy throws and handoffs, Zips would have had to try to lose at that point. Muffed punt against BG, <1 minute TD drive given up to Ohio, 2 missed FGs to end the half against CMU, now a nice 75-yard TD drive erased with a bad play on special teams. There was no doubt in my mind Kent was going to end the half with a TD. May as well have just let them score on the first play so the Zips would have another shot. That damn interception is the thing I can't get out of my head. From where I was sitting, I was already jumping up in the air celebrating once the receiver got open. Going back to the replay, it's hard to tell if Irons had a window to throw it (wish we could purchase all-22), but I feel like if he would have read the route a second or two sooner, it would have been a massive TD for what would have been our largest lead of the season, against a Fr. QB and an overrated Kent team that thrives on momentum. I don't want to reduce the game and the season down to that play because who knows what would have happened anyway, but 2-6, 1-3 with the Wagon Wheel in possession and the same record as Kent 8 games into this new era of football could have been ours. If the Zips take the life out of the Kent sideline there, the story may have written itself. Oh, to be an Akron football fan.

  21. From the guy that was listening to Steve French on a Sony Walkman report the Zips were down 35-0 to BG on my wedding day in 1993...and the guy that was at the Rubber Bowl when Faust beat OU to go 1-10 in 1994...and the guy that saw Rob Ianello produce back-to-back 1-11 seasons...only to be succeeded by Bowden going 1-11 in his inaugural season, then bookend his tenure with a 4-8 record after beating the Big 10 champs earlier that season...and the guy that saw Tom Arth and Oscar Rodriguez rack up a combined 3 wins against 27 losses...and the guy that's staring smack dab into the face of another 1-11 season...I can say will 100% confidence - I feel your pain.

  22. I actually thought this was some creative marketing that poked fun at students wearing other teams gear on campus, but done in a fun, amusing way.

  24. I am with you that I am a huge Zips and Browns fan. There is one commonality between the two teams: they each have a bum Quarterback.
