I can’t not respond to this. Be careful what you wish for. Have you ever attended a game with a big crowd at Dick Stadium? It’s like being surrounded by the weirdest teachers from your childhood who know less than zero about football. I’d rather be lonely.4 points

Of everything you mentioned, this is the worst. It's inexcusable. Many of these people are from organizations that support the school financially. Some support individually. This is extremely poor community recognition. Remember, the athletic department should support five areas with the general Akron community being one of them. Recognize those who support you.2 points

You are so right. But you'll get shouted down by the old-guard that will stick up for the new regime. It's no secret that Mr. Guthrie got rid of Pritt Entertainment Group last year, thinking he and his new cohorts had the expertise to put on a quality, or even competent, DI football game experience. It is he who wants the DJ experience (not Irons, mind you), removing the traditional Marching Band in College Football stadium effect that exists at all the Big schools, and we have a helluva band to boot. Marketing???? So, they hired some wiz from Robert Morris, boy now there's a powerhouse of DI athletics! And has it made a difference? You tell me. We all made fun of Keith whatever-his-name-was when he was on the video board doing give-aways on the field, but God I miss those days now. Where's the kiss-cams, the dance-cams, the juke box games, the give-aways? How many times are we going to see some people standing on the field with Dr. Miller during a time-out and the PA guy not even mentioning what it is for? And don't even start to defend the poor choice made for PA announcers the last two games! It's not even a good high school football game experience. And yes, I'd love to take the family to a winning program, but as an alumn I feel I need to go when I'm in town, and the lack of winning would at least be tolerable if there were some pleasurable distractions. And your comparison to the Rubber Ducks is excelllent. Nice to see someone else feels like I do.2 points

The lack of wins thus far in 2023 is profoundly disappointing. And, I'm as beaten down and any remaining fan over the abject futility I've witnessed during my support of the program for the past 5 years. But I have zero doubt Joe Moorhead will turn this around. He has been incredibly successful at every stop along his college coaching career. Akron will be no different. He inherited the worst program in Division 1. If we were #130, we were lightyears behind #129, let alone #78. Joe needs to figure out an offense that can be effective with the talent he's got. And he needs to figure it out soon. It doesn't help that his QB room is now missing Irons, and stocked completely with unprovens and underwhelmers. But that's the cards he's dealt. We have very good WR's and RB's. That should be enough to win our share of MAC games. I love our defense. People forget that is was an achievement when Arth's teams could force a punt over 4 quarters. We've come such a long way on that side of the ball. I remember when MLB pitching coach Roger Craig was once asked, when his pitchers were getting shelled over an extended stretch, "As a 'pitching guru', how are you going to get your arms back on track?" Craig replied "Guru? Right now I ain't gooruin' worth a damn!" I have to believe Joe feels the same way about himself, and the Zips offense right now. He has higher standards than the results produced by that side of the ball so far. I'd hoped it was possible for Joe to completely pull us out of the Arth Abyss in 17 games, but apparently it may take a few more. It sucks, but I 100% believe he'll get it done.2 points

We need wins. Whoever gives us the best chance for a “W” is who should be under center (or, in the shotgun).1 point

Lingard and Bullock running the Penn State version of the Wildcat. I'll see you all in Detroit! 😅1 point

The thing that bothers me the most about this regime's approach to gamedays so far is the importance they place on the optics of everything. Guthrie himself speaks so much about how things look and how things feel. Noting things like can you see trash cans on the TV broadcast or do chairs on the floor have jackets resting on them. Small, silly things to worry about. I agree on Keith Kennedy, at least the spirit of it. Zips football games from 2009-2021 may not have been any fun because of the crap football, but at least the in-house production seemed well put together instead of the free for all it has become. I miss our old PA guy so much, hoping he is back for basketball and only told football to kick rocks. Maybe they should hold open auditions for this spot in the offseason? That would be awesome! Through 2 games, I have seen a few members of the staff and players on the sideline puzzled when they hear wrong names announced. The ineptitude at InfoCision Stadium has spread far beyond the football field. That said, I think these guys have done a nice job at the JAR for MBB games. Between moving and mobilizing the students and the new lounge area, it's at least a step in the right direction.1 point

First, fantastic post. I'm in the Joe camp. I will say though, personnel is more than just being dealt cards. Recruiting at least allows a coach to determine which cards get dealt. I'll forgive Joe for his first recruiting class not having "his guy" at QB, but not the second. He has a huge name and should have brought someone in from the transfer portal after last year. There is something really wrong if he cannot get the QB situation fixed this off season. The rest of the deck is stacked in his favor.1 point

I'm going too. But I'm probably just going to fly solo on this one. (Naturally, if I don't bring any friends it'll probably end up being a well played, entertaining Zips win.)1 point

FWIW .... found this on Xavier website re: prep team shootout at the school this summer. "Keep eyes on Eric Mahaffey for Moeller. Super young senior (still growing) but is coming into his own!! If I'm a low/mid major I'm throwing that kid an offer."1 point

I'm going to push back on this. First, we have an example in-house to show winning doesn't necessarily = attendance (MBB). Second, there are glaring weaknesses this athletic department has had for *years* that have held it back. There's no creativity, no fun, barely any marketing/promotions - these are things you have to do to draw fans even when you're winning and especially when you're not. Different sport, but we go to quite a few Rubberducks games. It's not because they win - I couldn't even tell you their record this year and quite honestly, don't care if they win or lose. It's because they are super-creative with marketing/promotions/ticketing, they engage with their supporters and make them feel valued, and their in-game entertainment is fantastic. We always have fun at those game. I was so bored Saturday I probably won't go back. We do none of this well, and it's beyond embarrassing for a D1 Athletic Department to be so bad for so long.1 point

No atmosphere exists because the program stinks and nobody shows up. Winning games leads to fans in seats which leads to a fun atmosphere. Not sure what all we're expecting admin to do here.1 point
