  1. Two more West Virginia players are in the Portal - Jeremiah Bembry & Kobe Johnson. The comments on X are hilarious. "Akron Lock" "Akron?" "He's the final piece of the puzzle for Akron to win the MAC" "You are an Akron Zip"

  3. The last time Toledo made the tournament the #1 song on the billboard charts was crazy little thing called love by Queen. The #1 movie at the box office was The Fog. The price of a Big Mac was $1.20.

  4. For what - existing? My goodness. Take a bonus for getting better TV/marketing deals, you know, something you've actually done work to earn - not a bonus on the backs of a school. Sheesh. I hate this conference so much. And I know, I know - I'm sure the Big Ten offices take bonuses, etc. But the MAC has done nothing but decline - those offices are worthless.

  5. A former UA AD told me the MAC divides the tournament money and bowl money amongst all members with the team earning the tourney spot or the bowl bid getting an extra share. The MAC office also got a share. That makes for a lot of shares and dilutes the size of the share. I do not know if that is what is done now.

  7. (from facebook) The University of Akron · The Akron Women's Dodgeball team made history on April 6 by winning the National Collegiate Dodgeball Association's National title! Against all odds, they turned a 1-3 deficit into a stunning 7-3 victory against Michigan State University. Their comeback is the largest in collegiate women's dodgeball history. #GoZips

  8. Every comment on this... "Kobe (Johnson) to Akron. Confirmed." Kobe, like Josiah, is from Canton. Keep an eye out for an Akron departure.

  9. I have high hopes for these guys and think they could be major contributors. That being said, I had high hopes for Maishe Dailey, Taylor Currie and KJ Walton. As such, my enthusiasm is tempered a little.

  12. I heard an interesting discussion on radio today speculating that many players are putting their names in the portal as a way of measuring their market value. Surely there's a better way to do this.

  13. ...more parking and “an attractive north entry to the campus.” Apparently some UA sites are being considered for a police department relocation: https://www.ideastream.org/law-justice/2024-04-16/will-akron-use-an-existing-space-for-its-police-headquarters-or-build-new-city-considers-10-sites Maybe some strings can get pulled to enable UA to make a much needed property sale.

  14. Winners win, losers lose. Kent State knows how to lose, and Akron knows how to win

  15. I thought we were finally past this from the Beacon. Beaven and occasionally Ulrich have been really good since GT essentially stepped aside. I guess we just needed this reminder.

  16. Looking at this through your lens ... I see what you're saying. Akron's two latest NCAA appearances were probably more directly related to Kent self-inflicted miscues (24-foul, 22-video). Could Akron have won both games without those incidents? Certainly. But ... It's not like blocking Kent's last-second shot in OT to win the MAC Tournament, and go to the NCAA. No discussion. Zips earn it/took it.

  17. Does anyone know what the MAC does with the NCAAT money? Is it used in-house? Divided up amongst the schools? Is there any additional funds given to the team in the tournament and what if they make a multi-game run?

  19. It's crazy, but I'm already excited for the 24/25 basketball season to start and we just finished the current season! I feel really good about our recent portal signings as well as our high school recruiting class, especially Sharron Young. I agree with @Let'sGoZips94 that Brisco and Mahafey should/will be redshirted.

  20. I attempted to predict my "way too early" top 2 at each position, but kept going back and forth so I gave up. Of the newcomers, I'm probably most excited for Okonkwo and Harris. Wilson fills a need in a 3 point shooter that we didn't have consistently last year, but Okonkwo had enough production at WVU to transfer up to UNC. Then he played against Bacot every single practice. Much like Enrique, his back up wasn't going to play much. Seems reasonable to expect a strong senior season out of him. Harris played A LOT this year for WVU, and basically all of his stats trended upwards from the prior season. He still seems to be on an upward trajectory and we could have a heck of a 2 years from him. I also think we're versatile. A number of guys who can play multiple positions. Curious who the one or two guys to step up will be (and any championship team needs that), but I think it'll happen, I'm drinking the kool aid!
