  4. You aren't the target audience. You don't strike me as a degenerate gambler. Degenerate gamblers don't care if the games are competitive. They only care if one team or the other covers whatever bet they made. College football is not in ascension. It is in decline. They want to play a money game? Ok, there is an organization out there playing the money game much better. It's called the NFL and is just dying to expand and eat up every weakling around. The decline is going to become more apparent in the coming years. A sign will be when the NFL senses weakness and begins to air games on Saturdays and Fridays all year. This will push college football to the secondary networks like BTN and the NFL will draw more eyes to it's product. College football won't stand a chance against the NFL.

  5. I stand by what I said. Tressel would have been so much better than Scarborough that it isn't even up for debate. Somehow Miller has been brought into a discussion of events five years before Gary came here. I did not criticize him nor the job he did. I think he was very good for Akron following what Wilson left him. Please criticize someone for what they say, not what you think they say. I do appreciate Zippy 5 for his advice to read all the posts before commenting. He/She is right. I should have read ahead. But he/she did call me "brother" and I appreciate getting all the family I can.

  7. You know a really cool side benefit to the advent of NIL? - We'll never have to worry about the cost of adding names to our Wall of Fame. From here-on-out, any decent player will bolt the Zips in a heartbeat for some P5 cash. The days of watching a Dwight Smith, Jason Taylor, Charlie Frye etc. for more than a year or two are officially over. Yippee. Next up - Based upon the success of the 2-minute time out, I foresee instituting the "6-minute breather"...a 5 minute "catch your breath" break at the 6:00 point of each quarter. We'll be able to listen to 15 consecutive, "Akron Bearings" and "Electrifying your Future" commercials, 4 times per game. Double Yippee.

  8. College football I've been turned off watching for years because it's boring. I often get asked to meet up with friends to watch OSU at a restaurant or a friends house. Looking at OSU's schedule last year, I see they played only 3 games that were decided by 10 points or less. 7 were decided by 20+ points. That's just not entertaining to watch. Particularly in the 4th quarter when the game is out of balance. The only redeeming quality is that with so many games being on TV all at once, odds are one will be watchable.

  12. OK, back at it...... lets look at the teams projected to finish 7 thru 10 3 of those teams also played Oakland....you all probably have Akron's score against Oakland imprinted in your brain...so I will not highlight the comparison score @Z.I.P. was kind enough to share via facebook message...the historical significance of Colorado College in women's soccer. Colorado College twice lost in the NCAA finals to UNC. @Z.I.P. and @fknbuflobo are both much better soccer historians than I am. Perhaps the 2 great minds can grace us with a prediction for how women's soccer will do in the MAC??? PLEASE !!! Northern Illinois picked 7th in pre-season poll impressive win over a team that the lady zips tied 6-1-1 record DePaul 0-0 (DePaul also played to 1-1 tie with league favorite Western Michigan) St. Thomas (MN) 4-1 Southern IN 6-1 Oakland 1-0 #9 Notre Dame 0-4 E. Illinois 3-0 (lady zips played to 1-1 tie with E. Illinois in 2nd game of season) Illinois St 1-0 Valparaiso 2-1 Toledo picked 8th in league 3-3-1 IU Indy 1-1 Cincinnati 2-3 Northwestern 0-1 Detroit Mercy 1-0 Loyola Chicago 1-2 Oakland 1-0 Ohio Dominican 3-0 Miami picked 9th in league 4-1-2 Eastern Kentucky 4-0 Tennessee Tech 2-2 Indiana State 0-2 Northern Kentucky 3-1 #21 South Carolina 0-0 ...I thought that was an impressive result for a team to picked to finish 9th Southern Indiana 2-0 Chicago State 4-0 Eastern Michigan picked 10th in the league 4-3 record Oakland 1-0 UIC 3-2 Youngstown State 2-0 (YSU had played to 2-2 tie with Kent State (picked 4th in league) Purdue Fort Wayne 1-0 Cincinnati 1-3 Valparaiso 0-1 Loyola Chicago 0-1 I am very impressed by the non conference records of the 12 teams. I had done a combined record for the teams picked to finish 1 thru 6. The very knowledgeable and all around good guy @NYC ZIP kidded me when I did too much math in another post.....so I will refrain from doing more math. Best wishes to the lady Zips.....as they begin their journey.....thru a tough MAC schedule

  13. The difference between Kent, OU, and BGSU versus CSU, UA, and UT is that the latter are urban campuses. Conservative media's constant bashing of urban areas as unsafe and undesirable havens of criminals and minorities has likely taken its toll, especially in relatively conservative rustbelt states like Ohio that have many other suburban and rural options (Kent, OU, and BGSU). I'd be interested to know if analogous schools in similar states (e.g. University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee) are seeing the same enrollment trends. (I realize OSU and UC are both urban schools, but I believe their brand strength and cultures overcome the urban divide.)
