I'm surprised no one else posted this. Appears the Beavers may be a little short when we meet them. Suspended

@LOZ, interesting article, thanks. The one thing they left out is that some of the current power conference teams might end up being in the "have nots". Schools like Northwestern, Duke, and Vanderbilt come to mind. Great schools, but zeros in regards to football.

LeBron James donating $1 million to to renovate gym
zipdiehard replied to Hilltopper's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
Great gesture by Lebron. That is a significant donation to a place that means a great deal to him. I can't believe some of you are bashing him. -
The USA Today "odds" section said that Burke hurt his tailbone in the last game, but is playing.
-
I think VCU wins. I came away very impressed with the way they fill lanes and anticipate passes. While Burke is fantastic, he averages 35.7 min a game. Hardaway averages 33.1. Those kind of minutes could be tough against that defense. Burke is a scorer, and scoring is tough when you are tired.

don't even know what to say. bet the Michigan fans are sweating. VCU beats them by double digits.

I would love to, but its not gonna happen. Getting off work isn't an easy thing for me, as only two people can be off at any time. I hadn't even had a chance to check if either day was even available. Plus I haven't been here that long, so vacation days are in short supply for me.
-
Cheer them on for me! I just got my call from the U, but had to turn them down as that start time killed any chance of me going. I can't take 1 1/2 days in vacation or take my kid out of school Thursday afternoon and Friday. It killed me to turn them down, especially since I had to miss MAC tourney for first time in seven years.

I think both are fair. Both have deserved it before and not received it.

I picked the Zips as well. I believe the week off will benefit us. I have faith that Coach and the team will be prepared for life w/o Alex. I know people are high on OU as the ones to beat us, but Can't State should not be overlooked. Over the last five games they are undefeated, while Akron and OU are both 3-2. We know our story, but OU has lost to us, been blown out by Belmont, and have close wins over Buffalo and Miami. Neither of us have been real impressive.

Anyone know where the Akron section is? My son and I are planning on heading up, but last year I told them at the ticket booth that I wanted in the Akron section and they put us probably twenty rows behind it...

Does anyone know if Chauncey is practiciing? During the CMU game he ackwardly slipped out of bounds and came up limping. During the subsequent time out he appeared to be in pain. He didn't go back in, and last I saw he was with the trainer in the corner by the end of the bench.

Four words sum up yesterday's game; Too big, Too deep. A few points: Nice to get the first big one out of the way. Many more ahead of them from here on out. Gotta love Zeke and Forsythe on the floor at the same time. Already playing a small team, so let's make it even more so. Props to Coach for the turnaround after being down 13. IMHO, he realized it was time to use our strengths. We started going to the basket more and attacking inside. It obviously worked. I'm surprised no one brought up their scrub back up point guard doing his bench taunting thing again. Guess he didn't notice they were losing at the time. OU in trouble next year if they don't have a replacement for DJ. To go from arguably one of the best point guards in the history of college ball to a kid that would have a hard time starting for Northern. As soon as he came in, Coach attacked him. It should be fun watching Alex abuse him next year. Lastly, any word on Tree? Hate anything with the knee or ankle area.
-
@lumberjack Thanks for pointing that out about Chauncey. 1000 pts is a great accomplishment. I'm guessing that UA didn't recognize it because less than a 1/3 of them came while he was a Zip.

I've seen several posts using the total number of students compared to how many attend games, but I haven't seen a comparison of "living on campus" vs attendence. I have to believe that a school like OU has pretty much their entire student body living on campus, while we have probably 1/4 of ours on campus. My point is that if you have 20,000 on campus you statiscally have a better chance of 1000 of them showing up for a game than a school with 4,000. I'm talking MAC level schools, not the Duke's and Kentucky's of the world where attending is an event on its own. I have been going to Zips BB games for 30 years and have seen an apparent student attendance rise at the same time they have increased dorms and on campus living.

This kinda got buried in another post: Does anyone know how Zeke is? He was limping after the game and was on the bench holding his knee. It looked pretty akward when the other player fell on his legs under the hoop.

Daylen Harrison is showing on Eastern Michigan's roster.

Poor rebounding almost did us in against a very good club. The problem I had with the calls on Zeke is that they were ticky tack fouls when the refs were letting very physical play go most of the night. Princeton obviously had a game plan to knock our guys off the ball when they took a pass. Several times they just jumped out and laid a hip into Tree or Zeke when they took the pass. I was impressed that our guys didn't seem to lose their focus with it either, even though Tree seemed perturbed toward the end of the game, especially with #34. I'm curious on something else; are players able to lead with their off arm when dribbling or driving to the hoop? That happened numerous times last night, especially whenever Alex was pressuring their guards. My recollection is that outside the NBA it is normally an offensive foul.

Merry Christmas to all of Zipsnation!

Thought I would start a thread for tonight. GoZips.com list the game time as 8:00 pm. Annual Teddy Bear Toss game. Arkansas Pine Bluff Golden Lions SWAC 1-8 (1-0 home, 0-8 away) Win over Md Eastern Shore, "best" loss is 13 points to 9-2 Arizona State Last meeting: 2011-12, Zips 87-64 They have three players averaging double figures: 6-8 DaVon Hayes 12.9, 6-3 Lazabian Jackson 11.0, and 6-6 250lb Terrell Kennedy 11.4. Hayes is a transfer from BG. They don't have much size, with only two players listed at 6-8, including Hayes. Hoping for at least a modest fan turnout at this one, but that may be dreaming. Maybe the Zips marketing should have just dubbed them "Arkansas" on the schedule... I know ZN faith in the team isn't high right now, but the Zips should roll in this one. I'm predicting at least a 20 point win.
-
I think that what was a very promising year for the MAC is done. Zips have been less than impressive and OU just lost to a second cupcake, this one at home. No way either has a sniff at an at large bid. Another one bid year...

I've always believed that they are missing out by not having some type of "Cleveland Classic" or "Ohio Classic" at the Q. It wouldn't even have to be an actual tourney, just four games on one day done in sessions like the MAC tourney. UA, Can't State, YSU & CSU each versus a name team. It wouldn't happen, but the best would be something like: Akron vs Xavier, CSU (host) vs OSU, Can't State vs Cincy, and YSU vs Dayton. The Q would be packed.

Students "required" to sit in sec 11 or buy ticket
zipdiehard replied to RowdyZip's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
I understand your personal situation, as I went through it for years. However I agree that the students should be in one section and not spread around. From the numerous away games I've been to in the last 30 years, they all do it this way. The JAR has always lacked that college gameday feel that even other MAC schools enjoy. In regards to the end zone seats being bad, I love sitting in them. I've sat at the top of the North end since the 80's and think they are some of the best seats. I like seeing the entire court at once and watching the plays develop. There are many familiar faces up there with me, so I know there are others that agree. -
D.I.G; it depends on which rankings you look at. Sagarin: UA 77, OU 333. Pomeroy: UA 79, OU 313. There are so many, who really knows.

I just ordered mine. $55 each with no extra fees. Have to pick them up at will call, no mail. $3.67 a game, not too bad especially since I have sat in the rafters for 25 years anyway.
