  1. If X can get his shooting percentages back to where they were his 2nd season at Dayton, he should be a shoe-in for 1st team All-MAC. I find it a bit concerning he's shooting .317 from the field given the low level competition we've been facing.
  2. The jump shooting isn't a head scratcher whatsoever. Last season Akron attempted the 12th most 3's per game out of 351 teams. It's clearly a focal part of Groce's offense and he's clearly recruiting guys who are trigger happy. I honestly don't mind being a 3-point shooting heavy team as I feel with the shorter line in the college game it's a bit overpowering and a great equalizer for lessor talented teams. If we want to be that team we just need to get guys who can actually shoot.
  3. Outside of shooting free throws extremely well there were very few positives to take out of this game.
  4. Would have liked to have seen Akron use their size and athleticism to try to get to the basket more instead of settling for so many 3's. We had them in the double bonus so it would have been nice to take advantage.
  5. Just saw Zips press release indicating both have signed their NLI.
  6. I know the NCAA has a 25 player cap on recruiting classes. Do Juco and transfers factor into that number?
  7. We're currently 8th in the MAC, which is certainly better than what Bowden's classes were rated, however, 8th best still isn't something to be excited over. Also, those ratings are highly subjective so we really won't know how good these guys are for another 3 years. By then Arth might not even be the coach if he can't find ways to win games in the interim.
  8. So they can squeeze a few more .500 P5 teams in? Unlike college football where half the teams are eliminated from competing for a national title before the season even begins, every team in college basketball actually has a path to a national title. Besides it was only 1 1/2 years ago that a 16 seed knocked off a 1.
  9. If you actually go look at @ZipsVoice old post and follow the thread, you will see that I agree with a lot of what you're saying. I particularly pointed out all the guys on the Toledo roster who could be key contributors for us. Bowden's staff actually had a fairly good amount of success in recruiting Florida and Arth's staff, while still early, seems to have a nice inroads to Georgia as I'm counting 4 3* players from that state committed to the 2020 class. It's not realistic to have 100 players on the roster all from Ohio so it's important to still have some pipelines elsewhere. The ~35 players IMO is a pretty good overall number to shoot for. The focus just needs to be on making those a quality 35 instead of a quantity 35.
  10. Someone else on this board counted up the number of NEO players on each MAC teams roster. Akron actually has the most. This hasn't led to increased attendance and has led to our 0-10 record. The problem is we've been recruiting Ohio players who for the most part aren't FBS caliber talent. We need better players regardless if they are from Ohio, PA, Georgia, Florida etc. Did any of the players Bowden recruited from Akron East produce?
  11. Akron flies recruiters out to to Georgia or Florida to pitch high schoolers to join the program. Do you really think a 15 mile drive is going to deter members of the football staff from getting a glimpse of this game?
  12. The RPO offense has kind of only recently made its way into the NFL. No teams were running it 10+ years ago except for the rare game here or there. It has been in the college game for decades so I'm surprised he wasn't aware of it from then, especially since now he is a commentator. Nebraska won multiple national championships utilizing it.
  13. NC Central "tournament success" is by being the tallest midget in the MEAC. They went 5-9 last year during OOC play last year with 3 of those 5 wins being against non-D1 teams. If they were in the MAC last season, they may have finished just ahead of WMU in the battle for last place. Akron by 15.
  14. Yes, if this was China or one of the top European leagues he'd be making 6 figures. If he was a star in one of those leagues he'd be making low 7 figures. This is Tunisia we're talking about where the average per capita nominal gdp is ~$3400. Out of 186 countries ranked by the IMF it comes in 120th.
  15. Considering we're averaging 1.9 ypc this season I wouldn't count on it. Difference is instead of losing by 35+ we might only lose by 21.
  16. One would think he'd make more with his computer science degree, but maybe he doesn't want to give up on his dream.
  17. I'm having the same issue.
  18. We were fortunate to have KD as long as we did. The NCAA has loosened the rules and have made it much easier for players to transfer, which has led to a steadily increasing numbers of transfers at the D1 level year over year. Even KD has steadily been losing guys to transfer at Duquesne. It's just the way the game has transformed.
  19. Honestly, I feel the uniforms for both the basketball and football program are top notch. It's the one thing the athletic department does a great job at.
  20. This will be WVU first game of the season so Akron's best bet is they come out rusty and we can jump on them early. I expect Akron to keep it interesting for the first 30 or so minutes with WVU pulling away in the last 10.
  21. Bo Pelini won 9+ games in each of his 7 seasons at Nebraska and was still fired. I guess he must have been too busy scoring off the field too. Nebraska's problem is they try to hold their coaches to the standards that they're coaching at Alabama or OSU even though the program hasn't been at that level since the 1990s.
  22. Actually having a full bench should help a ton this year. It should better allow us to push the ball in transition while also still exerting the same level of energy on defense.
  23. Frank Solich was hired at OU when he was 60 and didn't really turn them into a consistent winning program until he was about 65. If he was 25 years younger, he'd have most likely left Ohio years ago.
  24. Akron certainly has had issues finding and hiring quality coaches. I don't feel the issue is they have been moving onto new coaches too soon. If anything they have a track record of holding onto sub-par coaches too long. Below is a list of coaches they have had since 1987. Gerry Faust - 8 seasons (1987-1994) (36-49) Lee Owens - 9 seasons (1995-2003) (40-61) JD Brookhart - 6 seasons (2004-2009) (30-42) Rob Ianello - 2 seasons (2010-2011) (2-22) Terry Bowden - 7 seasons (2012-2018) (35-52) Tom Arth (2019-???) Everyone of these guys got 6+ years to prove themselves (besides Ianello). I know there is a contingent here that is still pro Bowden and I'm tired of beating that dead horse so I'll exclude him from this discussion. Do any of you think we needed a 9th season of Faust, a 10th season of Owens, or a 7th season of Brookhart?
