  1. We sucked because our roster was deprived of ready to play talent. We were forced to play true freshman, who probably should have been red shirted, and walk-ons. If all those guys that played were 2 inches taller we still would have been terrible.
  2. If we could keep all religious debate confined to this thread and out of the sports threads, I'll be a happy camper. You guys can jump topic to topic for all I care.
  3. I feel there are a lot here that would agree with you. I'd love for Zips basketball to get a new arena, but it would be a huge waste of student and/or taxpayer dollars. If there was money to be made off a downtown arena a private developer would be bankrolling the project.
  4. The JAR is still structurally fine. I posted a report on this site 2-3 years ago that detailed the report conducted by that independent party that conducted the feasibility study on the cost of repairing the Rubber Bowl. Long story short, the Rubber Bowl was totaled. Building a new basketball arena while continuing playing football games at the Rubber Bowl wasn't an option. The option was either build a new football stadium or disband the program. Infocision was built at a cost of $61 million. That's really cheap compared to most other stadiums built and renovated in that same time period. Could have they built it a little smaller and saved a few million? Probably, and honestly they should have. It still would have only saved a few million dollars at most. Not enough to fund a ~$70 million basketball arena.
  5. I was just posting examples. People on this site don't get upset (or at least I hope not) because you share different beliefs. Most here seem to be tolerant people. It's the fact you seem to always find something to argue over and the tone you take when arguing. It's not that I dislike you. I just dislike the fact you engage in long winded debates regarding topics completely unrelated to the thread at hand.
  6. I'm not defending anyone here. You're right there are a select few others that do it too and I hate when they do it too. I really don't keep score on who does what more. I distinctly remember getting in disputes with Skip in the past for him pushing his agenda a crossed too. The type of stuff I get mad at you for most of the time is your self need to correct everyone on everything. Exhibit A: Going on a rant how Easter is a pegan holiday Exhibit B: Despite not knowing where I stand on any political issue (as I do my best to avoid them on this forum) you really tried arguing over how politically biased I am. This is the type of stuff that irks me along with others.
  7. Frankly I don't care if they pray or not and I wasn't really personally offended by anything you said. I'm just sick of seeing the back and forth political debates overtake the sports section on this forum. Part of what makes sports great is it's suppose to be an escape from reality. The back and forth bicker is honestly driving down the amount I frequent this site. I'm sure I'm not the only one.
  8. It was pretty irrelevant information to the topic at hand and completely derailed the thread, hence why the mods moved it. I, like many, come to this forum to discuss Zips sports, not to debate whether team prayer is a violation of separation of church and state.
  9. @Let'sGoZips94 I'd get your point if they were talking about adding an additional 1-5 teams, but with 28 added teams there certainly would be multiple mid-majors getting in that wouldn't have otherwise. There are only so many P5 teams and they certainly aren't going to allow an 8-24 Pitt team in.
  10. Because nobody wants to watch 4-28 Delaware State play Villanova. There is such a thing as watering down your product too much.
  11. What does OU, Buffalo, and Kent have that enables them to have ceilings of winning 1 or more tournament games, but makes Akron incapable of such a thing?
  12. Love the thread rename. Once again another thread hijacked by Balsy feeling the need to impose his political and/or religious beliefs on others...
  13. 16 seeds are now 1-135 against 1 seeds and he's talking about having a 32 seed play a 1 seed? If they decide to expand I feel expanding to 96 would be the way to go. 128 is too many.
  14. The taxpayers of Akron and Summit County spoke. They have no interest in funding a multi-purpose arena with taxpayers dollars. That ship likely sailed when the John S Knight Center was built.
  15. Perhaps I'm ignorant to the process, but wouldn't he still have to be invited to said events?
  16. IDK and frankly I don't really care what his reason for leaving was. He should just be careful for what he wished for. I know it's a different sport, but Jaaron Simmons had a pretty good thing going for him at OU to leave for greener pastures. Sure Michigan is having a nice run, but I can't imagine he left knowing he'd only be playing 8 minutes a night and average 1.5 ppg.
  17. Anyone know why they don't sell beer in the JAR currently?
  18. A lot of similarities to Akron Despite having a relatively new basketball arena, a larger student body, and larger metro area they still have the same issues as us in not being able to fill their basketball arena. Makes you question the logic when people say a new arena will fix Akron's attendance problems.
  19. The question posed, or at least how I inferred it, was what types of players the Zips are looking to add this off-season (assuming nobody transfers). I was simply stating that I feel the Zips shouldn't limit themselves to recruiting a player solely based off position. They need to get whoever is most talented. I feel Utomi and Ivey are the only locks to start next season. Everyone else is going to have to compete for their role in the rotation. I just personally don't see a logjam at any position. That doesn't mean one can't develop if a lot of guys develop over the offseason.
  20. We finished 11th in the MAC. We need an infusion of talent. The only players I'm 100% sold on is Utomi and Ivey. That is not to say there aren't others I see promise in and of course we have some transfers that had to sit out who I haven't seen. I just don't see a log jam at any position. If a player can ball and help us win games, Groce can easily find a spot for him in the rotation.
  21. He put up fairly decent numbers last year. His .478 fg% considering his putrid 3 point % suggests to me he's pretty good at finishing around the rim. I'm sure some other P5 and high mid-majors will give him a look.
  22. Scott Cross conference record was 121-87 (.587) in 12 years at UTA with UTA playing half those years in the low major Southland Conference. They had a damn good year last year, but overall he's had them hovering around .500 in conference play.
  23. Wasn't he making more than $240k as Dean of Law?
