  1. Let's not get carried away. His 2011-2012 Ohio team certainly was more talented than this rag tag bunch, but he still took a 13 seeded OU to the Sweet 16.
  2. I'm for one grateful to see competition at the position next season. Granted I haven't seen Riak play yet, but I'm not 100% sold on any of them. That's not to say I haven't seen things that I like, but all of them have a long way to go before they become contenders for All-MAC teams. Hopefully the competition makes them work harder to earn their minutes and we see some of this potential develop into on the court talent.
  3. I agree most require at least a duo. CJ McCollum is another example of a mid-major player who put his team on his back to carry his team to an upset. He likely would have been in the running for some accolades the following season, but had a season ending injury. Man how I wish he didn't get away.
  4. I was pointing out a big time MAC player who left for a P5 program pretty much costing OU their season this year. IDK if it was the added pressure, a loss of confidence, or what, but Simmons isn't the same player. He was getting minutes and was in the rotation at UM at the start of the season, but he stunk up the joint leading himself for find a place on the bench.
  5. I'm with @72 Roo. I wasn't all that impressed with the run blocking. I'm not sure if that was because of the O-line coach or lack of talent on the offensive line. Either way it's an area we will need to improve as a team.
  6. Time will tell, but I just don't see it being a wash. I see these P5 schools targeting proven players that are good enough to put a team on their back for a game or 2 in March and exchange we get above average MAC starters.
  7. I don't think there is any denying the fact Duquesne has improved. Last year they were the cupcake. This year they are beating the cupcakes. That being said it's not some miraculous turnaround. When you're at the bottom, there is only 1 direction that you can go.
  8. I don't think we'll see top 25 teams exclusively recruit mid-major players, but it's certainly going to be a tool they use.
  9. I see this benefiting G5 in football, but hindering mid-majors in basketball.
  10. Zone defense typically creates a lot of offensive rebound opportunities. Considering 11 of our 21 rebounds came on the offensive end, that explains a lot.
  11. I for one am a huge fan of what Haynes has accomplished at KSU. I wish they would have kept him longer
  12. Are we still talking about this?
  13. No, I'm not a fan either.
  14. Just be aware that you will now become if the scapegoat if they lose...
  15. In a game in which Utomi & Duvivier went a combined 2/15 for 8 points, it's no surprise we got curb stomped. We just don't have enough on this roster to overcome that. Heading into this season I knew we'd have nights like this. I just hope the minutes the young players are getting exposed to now pays dividends in the future.
  16. Do I think Akron has any chance of making a Final 4? No, but what's so far fetched about making the round of 32 or Sweet 16? It's a single game elimination tournament, not a best of 7 series. You don't have to be the better team to win. You just have to put yourself in a position that a few lucky bounces swinging your way puts you in a position to win.
  17. I can't copy and paste on my phone but it mentions in the article that the donation piece towards priority seating will be eliminated as well. Figure I'd mention it as it will impact some of you.
  18. Campbells Arena Starkist Court?
  19. What we're seeing now is the team I expected out of Akron this season. I said when Groce was hired however many months ago that I was going to give him a free pass for this season as I don't think any coach in the country could have assembled a MAC contender given everything we lost and how short of a time frame we had to assemble a roster.
  20. Keener wasn't part of the bet.
  21. For any coaching vacancy for any of the sports I follow, I'd want the coach that has the best chance to succeed. It doesn't really matter to me if they have ties to Akron or not.
  22. I found your comment to be funny @Bruce Willis Drummond. Some people are just overly defensive for whatever reason. Being a Cleveland sports if I couldn't laugh about my fandom misfortunes, I'd probably cry.
  23. Not much thought process went into my pick.
