Perhaps I'm ignorant to the process, but wouldn't he still have to be invited to said events?

IDK and frankly I don't really care what his reason for leaving was. He should just be careful for what he wished for. I know it's a different sport, but Jaaron Simmons had a pretty good thing going for him at OU to leave for greener pastures. Sure Michigan is having a nice run, but I can't imagine he left knowing he'd only be playing 8 minutes a night and average 1.5 ppg.

Anyone know why they don't sell beer in the JAR currently?

A lot of similarities to Akron Despite having a relatively new basketball arena, a larger student body, and larger metro area they still have the same issues as us in not being able to fill their basketball arena. Makes you question the logic when people say a new arena will fix Akron's attendance problems.

The question posed, or at least how I inferred it, was what types of players the Zips are looking to add this off-season (assuming nobody transfers). I was simply stating that I feel the Zips shouldn't limit themselves to recruiting a player solely based off position. They need to get whoever is most talented. I feel Utomi and Ivey are the only locks to start next season. Everyone else is going to have to compete for their role in the rotation. I just personally don't see a logjam at any position. That doesn't mean one can't develop if a lot of guys develop over the offseason.

We finished 11th in the MAC. We need an infusion of talent. The only players I'm 100% sold on is Utomi and Ivey. That is not to say there aren't others I see promise in and of course we have some transfers that had to sit out who I haven't seen. I just don't see a log jam at any position. If a player can ball and help us win games, Groce can easily find a spot for him in the rotation.

He put up fairly decent numbers last year. His .478 fg% considering his putrid 3 point % suggests to me he's pretty good at finishing around the rim. I'm sure some other P5 and high mid-majors will give him a look.

Scott Cross conference record was 121-87 (.587) in 12 years at UTA with UTA playing half those years in the low major Southland Conference. They had a damn good year last year, but overall he's had them hovering around .500 in conference play.

Wasn't he making more than $240k as Dean of Law?

It feels great getting consideration from recruits that a program of Memphis caliber is targeting.
-
I don't think they would have been anyways. If people weren't talking about UMCB, I'm guessing they'd be talking about Loyola.
-
They went 8-24, of course there isn't much there.

Yeah, I feel the setup of winning 3 games in 3 days really hurt Akron the last few years considering our team was built around and heavily relied on a 300 lb C. Perimeter players are better adapt to that kind of setup.
-
If a blue blood wanted him bad enough I'm sure a ~$2 million buyout would be pocket change to them. I can't imagine he's a target of any of those schools yet, but perhaps if Buffalo pulls off another 1-2 wins he could be.

Put me in the category of being glad to see the MAC pull off the win. People are right when they say one year won't change the perception of the MAC, but you have to start building from some point.

Having Antino might have added a few regular season wins, but at the end of the day we still wouldn't have had the depth nor talent at the bigs to compete this season.

Duquesne Basketball Coach Keith Dambrot

The MAC's issue is we have a few above average teams and a bunch of mediocre ones. It's much better to be a top heavy heavy conference like the WCC if the goal is to get multiple bids. On another note, the season is over now. Can we put to rest the Duquesne - Akron comparisons please? -
I'd agree most likely are at or above 10 which certainly would put us at a disadvantage.

Being a non-revenue sport, I'd be shocked if all other MAC baseball schools offered the full 11.7 scholarships.

Game 32—EMU [MAC Tourney Rnd 2]

Personally, I feel the tougher and more enjoying feat would be winning the MAC tournament as an 11 seed over beating a ~.500 MEAC/SWAC team. -

I'm in agreement that Akron would be a 16 seed. I just don't think they would be one of the 16 seeds who has to play in Dayton. -
I admit I wrote the Zips off and didn't watch. To those that didn't lose hope and watched I'm glad you were treated to a good game Looking at the box score it seems Cotton and Utomi picked the best time of the year to play perhaps their best game of the season. I'm glad to see we pulled off the win. I still don't think we have a chance in hell of making the tournament, but making it to Cleveland should provide good experience for our team in future years.

I'm just going to pretend the tournament is taking a 1 year hiatus
-
Doesn't matter to me where the players come from as long as they are talented and help the Zips win games.
