Athlon sports did their annual MAC Preview/Prediction piece. They have Akron finishing 5th in the MAC East at a 3-9 record. Two of the three panelists picked Alvin Davis to win MAC DPOY. Two of the three also picked Peter Hayes-Patrick to be the top freshman. https://athlonsports.com/college-football/mac-football-2019-predictions

I think another thing to remember is that since this is now a P5 vs. G5 Bowl this bowl game has likely fallen to the very bottom of the B10 totem pole. If there is ever a year that the B10 fails to fill all their bowl commitments, this is probably the one that has to get back filled.

2019-2020 Akron Zips Basketball- Looking Forward
kreed5120 replied to clarkwgriswold's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
College basketball will be pushing the 3-point line back to the international distance of 22 feet 1 3/4 inches started next season. https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/story/_/id/26905011/ncaa-moving-3-point-line-back-next-season -
Starting in 2020 the MAC will become a primary bowl partner in the Quick Lane Bowl. Locking in a B1G vs. MAC bowl match-up I'd consider to be a win. https://getsomemaction.com/news/2019/6/4/football-mac-to-face-big-ten-as-primary-bowl-partners-in-the-quick-lane-bowl.aspx Edit: Also, I think McDonalds should assume sponsorship rights and name it the BIG-MAC Bowl.

It was also in large part out of necessity. Mike Davis wasn't hired until mid-June and had something like 10 scholarships to fill. Needless to say the supporting cast surrounding Davis wasn't that great. Mike Davis has a pretty solid coaching resume so I don't want to discredit him in saying he only got the Detroit job because of his son, but at the same time it wouldn't surprise me if it played a small part in the ADs decision.

2015 - Emmanuel Olojakpoke Commits to Akron
kreed5120 replied to UAZip0510's topic in Akron Zips Basketball Recruiting
I think he should do fairly well there. The WAC is a notch below the MAC, but still is an okay mid-major conference. -
Jerry Calhoun, YSU head coach, was a former assistant at WVU. From what I've read Huggins scheduled the game to help a friend out.
-
Marhsall isn't even on WVU schedule this year. Clark was talking about WVU agreeing to play us this season when we can't ever get OSU to play us during the regular season. Personally, I'm more impressed with WVU agreeing to play YSU in Youngstown.
-
If we were WMU, NIU, or Toledo I'd be inclined to agree with you. Those schools have winning tradition, meanwhile, we've been a joke of a program for 30+ years. We've had literally 1 winning season and 2 bowl appearances in 13 years. We need to work towards making bowl games every year and become a perennial 8-10+ win team. Once we get to that point then sure we can get rid of scheduling FCS opponents.
-
Would you prefer that we play Alabama, Ohio State, Clemson, and ND every year that way we can collect the biggest checks, meanwhile, go 0-4 OOC every year?
-
We're going to really need to recruit some front court players for 2020-2021. Only 3 forwards, 2 of which will be seniors, and no centers on the roster.
-
Anyone hear anymore about next years schedule?
-
So it appears the next 5 seasons are fully booked then.

I feel it was done in an effort to draw more interest to the non-revenue sports. It was a good idea, but really hasn't achieved what it was set out to do. Most fans still really only get excited about the football and men's basketball match-ups (particularly when they meet in Cleveland), which is no different than before.
-
I don't see the harm in keeping it.

I wish we were playing this Illinois team in year 3 or 4 of Arth's tenure. We're facing an Illinois team while they're down, but they're also facing an Akron team that will be pretty depleted as well.
-
Hopefully this helps establish a nice pipeline from McKinley to Akron.
-
I believe Arth said we had a few scholarships still available after national signing day and that was before we lost a few guys to transfer. I'm expecting a large 2020 recruiting class.
-
Kostalec finished his Akron career with more personal fouls than points or rebounds. He was a nice kid, but there was a reason he was buried on the depth chart. He should do well at Malone.
-
I'm a 12 roo and I only understood about half of what he was saying. Maybe I should freshen up on my ebonics.

2019 Commit: Ali Ali, 6-7 SF
kreed5120 replied to Blue & Gold's topic in Akron Zips Basketball Recruiting
Ali made the Indiana All-Star team. Based off the below report he also had season ending shoulder surgery. I'm not sure if that will have an impact on his availability next fall or not. VIDEO: Much love to East Noble's @IamAlix2 for making the Indiana All-Star team - huge honor! Unfortunately, he had surgery for a shoulder injury and won't be able to whoop up on Kentucky, but best of luck to the future @ZipsMBB guard! @CoachRyanEakins @ENobleSchCorp https://t.co/mh17mDbjFS -
We might have also made the choice for him as well. I'm not sure which of the recruits Groce thought higher of. We would have had to cut someone to make room for both. That's kind of a dick move to do this late in the recruiting process.
-
He committed to LMU.
-
He seemed to settle for more contested 15-18 footers than I'd like, but overall I was impressed with the tape. He does a good job at finishing near the rim, including throwing down some thunderous dunks.
