I feel the big difference is last years team had better shooters. Dawson and Ali were proven perimeter shooters, which made it harder for teams to send hard double teams at Freeman. When they did Freeman is a proficient enough passer to get them the ball for the open 3. Freeman is still making those passes, but the difference is Hankerson, Hunter, & Tribble aren't making them where as last year Dawson & Ali would make them. If I'm playing Akron I'm sending weak side help to double Freeman any time he touches the ball in the paint.

Reality is unless Hunter miraculously turns into the shooter that the coaches claim he is, we're going to struggle to win any game that we need to score 70 to win.

As I said against Marshall we would have to put up points. This isn't a team that you can beat 65-60. Kinsey certainly has been able to use his size advantage on the wing to create separation. It would be nice having Dawson to guard him. Should be interesting to see how Groce adjusts.

Oh, I don't disagree those players deserved it. I can see how my comment may have came a crossed as me saying otherwise. I'm just more surprised the voters didn't hold it against us.

It's the archaic rules from the transfer portal past. You use to have to sit out a year when you transferred from 1 D1 school to another. You could however transfer from D1 to D2 and play immediately. As I understand it the rule is in place because people feared a bunch of D1 players would transfer to a D2 school that is moving up to get around the 1 year sitting out rule. Not saying I agree with the rule, but thar was the rationale behind it.

It seems like we got a fair amount of recognition considering we finished dead last in the MAC.

That list is filled with proven stars who were on watchlists to be the best at their positions coming into the season. The only true freshman I see is Quinn Ewers and he plays the most important position on the field. Caleb Williams is going to win the Heisman. Of course proven stars will make more money.

The MAC does a lot of things that don't make sense.

I'd be surprised to see Tavari in the starting lineup. Before last game he was hardly even getting any minutes whatsoever. He very well might be the first guy off the bench. If he strings a few games together, he will eventually play himself into the starting lineup.

Yes, recruiting is a huge part of coaching at the collegiate level. I just don't see him being able to out recruit the other Big 12 schools as badly as he's able to out recruit the HBCUs that he's currently facing. He's running out his 3* and 4* recruits against teams filled with guys Rivals didn't even bother giving stars to. Edit: I want to be clear I'm not saying he can't be good at the FBS level. I'm just surprised he's getting P5 interest so soon. I would have expected him to receive interest from G5 schools.

Really, Deion Sanders? Don't get me wrong he has a good year this year at the FCS level, but his team was significantly more talented than anyone he faced. It's still to be seen how good of a coach he'll be when he's facing teams that are equally or more talented.

I know in football you're limited to only x-number of coaches on your staff. I imagine basketball is the same. In football they give people other titles, but they still function as assistant coaches in practice and on game days. I imagine college basketball is very much the same.

Marshall, granted against fairly weak competition, has yet to score less than 80 in any of their games. We're going to have to make shots if we want to win. This is going to be a very much up and down the court game. One that I think we can get away playing more 4 guard lineups. I'm hoping to see Tavari build off his last game and show he's ready to be a consistent contributor. Hopefully between him and Hankerson we can get that 3rd and 4th scoring option to complement Freeman and X.

Considering we're 2-9 I'd say it's fair to say there should be camp competition at pretty much all positions. Even at WR, where I'd say we were more talented than the majority of the MAC, we have key guys leaving so there will be snaps up for grab.

I think you mean our last 4 decades. You have to go back to Dennison to find the last Akron coach who left the program with a winning tenure. His last season was 1985...

I'd get the need for wanting size if we were being bullied and outrebounded, but we're not. The real issue has been the lack of consistent perimeter shooting. That's not to say I wouldn't like to have more size at the wing, but I don't see that as a reason for why we lost any of these games.

Kind of unfortunate we have another game next week. This would have been a nice high point to end the season on.
