Where in the World is Larry Williams? What does he do?
ZipsVoice replied to DannyHoke's topic in Other Sports
Are you at the games? The first time out is always Larry and the Varsity A group awarding a game ball, and if you were in the stands or in the boxes, you would see him, George Van Horne, and many more of the staff, engaging fans.... Larry can be found at BB games, both men and women, at Swimming and Diving meets and Track and Field meets, at soccer matches....oh, do you go to any of those? Oh the HORRORS! Why would anyone not want to be tweeted at constantly by,, well anyone? As opposed to, say, his predecessor Tom Wistricil? Swim and Dive continue to wreak havoc n the MAC and beyond, Track and Field Indoor and Out continue to thrive and put out MAC Championships and national caliber athletes, Men's soccer, hmmmm...what have they done? Oh...he "ran off" Dambrot....maybe back that up with some facts please..... Nobody said it was actual, it's always been stated, over and over that iit is "total paid attendance". Why wouldn't you pay $80k to keep him? Jared took over seamlessly from Caleb, and the one signature program, that continues to attract the best players and national press coverage, even international perss coverage is MSOC. And why do you always lead with "We all can agree?" Obviously we can't, and I think you need to stop drinking so much coffee..... -

Welcome to ZNO AnnieBee! Glad you are paying attention to the board. We understand your frustration, reading the posts, but quite honestly this board doesn't rip the team as much as you think. I mean, we point out some glaring issues, but they're nothing that isn't obvious, even to the most ardent Zips fan, or even a parent or family member of a player. Coaches maybe take a hit more here than anything. You've got to remember, for most of us, this is the only place we get information on the teams, due to the lackluster press we've lived with for over 30+ seasons. The posters here DO stand up and cheer at the games we attend, with energy. That's why we come here to post afterwards, to blow off the steam of disappointment, unfortunately. But even if you took every poster and lurker and occasional troll from this board and sat us in the same section and gave us all pom-poms and beer, it would only be a little louder than the band playing the alma mater. We do care, I'm not so sure we drag the team through the mud, maybe over it, but it's still nice to have you here. -
Abdi maybe, I don't think Marco's absence is that missed, especially with the newcomers. I have been scratching my head trying to figure it out. While on the subject, was TJ that much better as an assistant that Nanchoff? Did Michael introduce some new concepts that haven't fit? No disrespect intended, just trying to figure this out. Zajac's absence is a given, a huge hole left there. The schedule sucks, but it is as it needs to be, given the MAC being so weak and small. If we were in a conference with at least 8 teams, that's 7 matches vs. 5, and if it was a league with half of the teams pushing top 25 status, we wouldn't need to schedule the biggies we do to start the season. We could start with a few more home matches against quality teams but not brutal quality teams, and the side would get a little more confidence going forward. The early losses to Xavier (we always suck on opening day) and the to Stanford seemed to really take it out of the guys, and then they had to go on the road to Creighton and Maryland.....One home match and then bye-bye. Sometimes the Rowdies presence at home adds a healing balm to these situations but they haven't had that luxury with the schedule. Come on, we know the talent is here, but I'm grasping at straws to figure out what's happening....

They usually open the concession stand between FES and the softball stands on game days for softball and even used to for track and field events, bet they'll have it open for BB games, but bring your wallet.....$$$$$

If your talent could be transferred tot he field.......undfeated!

Pardner, that was the way it was for me and my friends wayyyyy back at the Rubber Bowl when Jason Taylor was King of the Hill. Can't figure it out....Maybe with more numbers you're more anonymous, but when attendance s sparse you stand out and casual fans don't want to stand out? -
That's exactly what I said in m reply to you.....

Don't bet on it bigzipguy, I'm not happy at all with this start, nor the play and lack of scoring, but I'm still willing to think we can rally and win the MAC and get the autobid to the NCAAs. Not sure we'll go very deep and certainly won't see a home match or a first round bye, but this team's core is still proud to the extent that they know what it means to keep that streak alive, and may have to (and may already have) adjusted their seasonal goals to a MAC Championship and a berth in the NCAAs.

I was almost sure I had won the Fearless Forecast when Kato got smacked on that sack early. I was hoping I was wrong, and relieved, but amazed, he came back and played credibly the rest of the game.

Went to the Women's soccer match Thursday night and it's kinda exciting to see the baseball field stripped bare to just dirt, and knowing that it's going to soon be green and playable. Stood on the reserved eating section and looked out over the fence to see it. Kinda hard to perceive it yet. Anyone know if there will be a new pressbox, or if the field is going to be situated similar to the old layout with home plate near the soccer grandstands and the outfield spread out along Exchange?

Yeah, I like what you’re thinking about Corne and Council. I’m puzzled about Muldowney too. He’sbeen Showing as #2 on the depth chart week after week, but doesn’t see many snaps.... -

Agreed....they need to address now. -
Fearless forecast - (this is terrible and I hope it doesn't happen but...) Kato goes down with a season-ending injury on a blind-side hit on a blitz that the OL didn't block....

One of the hard things about following baseball (and softball for that matter) is the schedule and time of games. The team will go South for an extended period to begin the season, and by the time they get back on campus (or Canal Park). Chances are their record will be well below .500. This might keep the casual fan away. The home schedule will probably be filled with weekday, mid-afternoon games, once again hindering attendance. And once the NE Ohio Spring weather kicks in, there will be several postponed games leading to doubleheader’s or re-scheduling that cannot be “sure things” for crowds. The new field will be artificial so there won’t be that many rain-outs, but..... All that said, I’ll try to see a few, but count on sparse crowds since our student body hasn’t shown a lot of interestin anything except men’s soccer.

I'll still sell you some tickets if you'd like....⚽ ?

Buddy Boy, you have no idea....I saw it with my own two eyes, I witnessed it first hand from my vantage point, and I heard it from the mouths of some of the assistant coaches themselves, so don't set yourself up as such an expert, like all of your posts, you are full of it....
-
And I'd have to add, the final season saw a coaching staff (not just Terry) that rarely coached hard for 60 minutes...especially the last two losses, capitulating to BG especially, and OU, not to mention the make-up game vs. SC.

Who'd have thought that at this juncture of the season the only Zip "football" team to win a game/match would be....the Women's soccer team?? Football 0-3, MSOC 0-5. This is not to equate the WSOC schedule, nor their play to the MSOC program, but at 2-5, they actually should be 3-4 and at least 2-4-1. They started the season with a lot of promising recruits, saw two Internationals get injured playing in Europe for their Clubs and not even making it to campus, and then losing 5 women to injuries...so far. Sunday vs. Eastern Kentucky saw some of their best play as they came out of the locker room after a timid display in the first period to dominate in the second and had the Colonels on their heels all afternoon, only to go to OT and lose on a golden goal...with 23 seconds remaining! UGHHHH! Anyway, the soccer s better than in past seasons so far, and there are a number of promising players like Bailee Bowers from Dublin Ohio, And two Irishwomen in Aislinn Meaney and Lucia Lobato, to join veterans Charlie Kale, Carly Pcholinsky, Annamarie Alfery, Ryley Watt and the ever-tough Ashley Amato to name just a few. They play Robert Morris (no Stanford, but still....) Thursday evening at First Energy and hey, all the games are free. FYI ; lots of the AK Rowdies at Pitt were from the WSOC....

"We"? Who the Heck are "We". Join the Board, at least ID who "we" are....Get off my lawn! -
I agree with ZippyRulz on Burkhart, and think that Boogie may get the most yards maybe not the most targets. And I had the 100 to 130 yard range for rushing but think that Kato will get more than 50% of it. All that said I predict a 2 point win, believe it or not.

Well, at least we have Silver Creek Metro Park, even if we don't have a track to run on. Our track and cross-country coaches were instrumental in design and installation of a fantastic cross-country course at Silver Creek Park in Norton, to be used by college and high school teams throughout the season. And this year our XC team won the Tommy Evans Invitational out there, and out two besties, Mackenzie Andrews - All-American, and Andre Bollam-Godbott took firsts, and Andre even "mixed it up" a little at the finish line with the defending champ of the MAC from Ohio! Maybe no fireworks at the football game, but out in Norton...close!
